Phill's computer Build ($400)

If you are going with AMD system, I recommend to wait a little to get the A10-7850K or A10-7700K, don't bother getting a GPU until the new 20nm AMD GPUs comes out or buy a cheap 7790 or R7 260X and maybe do some hybrid crossfire. Should that way get a more modern system, very good performance per watt as well as very good gaming performance for similar amount of money. Saves money on short and longer term, higher rewards later on with potential of getting very high end GPU performance of today for more of a budget price. Will need FM2+ motherboard such as this one: GA-F2A88XM-D3H

You could probably find a second hand case for cheap, same with a graphics card as many people will be upgrading from old (GTX 500 and 600 series) hardware to newer stuff. Just be wary that there would be no warranty and they're somewhat delicate when posting.

I thought about getting a used case or GPU but I think I'd rather be safe and get these things new the first time.

While I'm here, will the build that I have in the OP have any noticeable bottlenecks? I was thinking the GPU would be the one to have a bottleneck but im not sure. I can't find any build with an AMD A8 6600k and a GTX 650 (reg). Just something I've been wondering about.

Probably not. It might hold you back at some CPU-intensive scenes but it should keep you going. Also, I recommend an aftermarket heatsink if the stock one is too loud / ineffective for you.

Alright, I'll definitely purchase an aftermarket one later on since I do plan to overclock.

Why go for an AMD APU processor?

To me, it doesn't actually make sense if you already got a separate graphics card in the build. The APU processor is most useful for a build that doesn't have a graphics card and has a requirement to be low powered and efficient (To a certain extent) and relatively stress free building (as you don't have to add a graphics card to the build).

If you went for other variations of AMD processors (FX-series or some of the Phenom II's) then that would be fine. Or some Intel processors that aren't way out of your price range. There could also be Pentiums as well.

Are you planning on separating the build further down the line, to make two computers? For example, downgrading the current computer to a media centre of some sort, while removing the graphics card and buying processors and motherboard to create a different computer?

I just noticed that a day or two ago. I decided to go with an FX 750K instead since it delivers just as well. I also received a 1600 stick of corsair Vengeance from my brother from his build because he thought I could use it. 4gb)

Hey Phil, shoot me a PM when you get a chance. I can help.

I will do so in the morning.

sorry for double post mods :/

Well, I have the money but I need to purchase a book which is $140 and will be needed for a test soon. I'll be holding off on the build for a few months but I think I'll be fine since I've been hearing that prices may drop for parts this year.

Prices always drop. Unfortunately those infernal new parts are also released... :irked:

At first it will be a little pricey. Then after a few months the price will come down.

As @TB alluded this has always happened going clear back to the 8080/Z80 days, and likely will continue for the foreseeable future.

My budget is $400 first off. I can go lower because I don't need a OS, a hard-drive, or a optical drive.

Processor: AMD Quad-Core A8-Series APU A8-6600K
Memory: Crucial Ballistix Sport 4GB Single DDR3
Graphics Card: MSI NVIDIA GeForce GTX 650 2GB GDDR5
Fans: Rosewill 120mm Case Fan RFA-120-K Black (x2)
Motherboard: MSI Socket FM2/AMD A75
Case and PSU: RAIDMAX Altas ATX-295WBP Black Steel / Plastic ATX Mid Tower Computer Case 500W Power Supply

All of this adds up to $412.17+

Also, I plan to use it for Adobe Suite, Gaming, Video, and audio editing.

Thanks for all of the help previously, and expect for this thread to be updated come computer Christmas :D

Has this system been built? Am I too late?
