Here's one by Finnish-Swedish poet Edith Södergran (1892 - 1923). Note the tape measure she's holding, after having measured the distance from the lens. No auto-focus back then! Picture was taken in Davos in Switzerland, where she spent a couple of years (1912 - 1914) at a sanatorium to get cured from tuberculosis.

For those that don't know, that would be Raymond Mays, founder of the ERA and BRM racing teams, losing a drive wheel at Shelsley Walsh Hill Climb in 1924. Mays had tuned his Bugatti Type 13 to rev to 6000rpm, something Ettore Bugatti could only dream of at this time. It was too much for the half-axle and the wheel, complete with brake drum, flew off.

The car skidded to a stop inches away from a precipice.

Yes, a photograph of a photograph because this has only lately come to light and nobody has scanned and uploaded it to the internet but this was taken shortly before Churchill's death in 1965 at the age of 90.

Stewardess for the White Star Line, and only one to survive the disastrous sinkings of both the RMS Titanic (1912) and her sister ship, the HMHS Britannic (1916). Also was on the RMS Olympic in 1911 when it collided with the HMS Hawke (a ship designed to sink ships by ramming them).

Can't tell if she had good luck or bad. :lol:

I couldn't make out the sideburns but the Star Destroyer, oh my gosh!

Yay! First repost honours! I'll put that down to 5 beers and a stunted memory.
 
Looking at those Amsterdam pics just makes me wonder if any of them people around at the time would comprehend what the world had become today.
What did it smell like there, what did it sound like? How fresh was the air, what did they eat for dinner, etc.
