Planning a party for 2m posts?...

Actually, if you look at that URL, it is NOT the true 2 millionth post. The URL is https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showpost.php?p=2113727

That is really post #2113727

The true post 2 million is https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showpost.php?p=2000000 by blue_sharky, who should be getting the attention. I didn't search for that post, just changed the post number behind the query to 2000000.

We must have had a lot of posts get deleted over time.
Hmmmm. Obviously, blue_sharky39's post is in the convo forum, and as covered in this thread, posts in the convo forum do not count towards the total.

Every post has an ID number, and this one is number 2,000,000.

I think the large gap between ID numbers and total posts is more down to posts in the convo forum rather than posts being deleted.

I don't persoanlly see a lot of action in the convo forum, so this question is aimed at a convo forum regular. Does the ~113,000 gap sound about right for the number of posts there since it has been up and running? Or have there been way more than ~113,000 posts and my theory is way off the mark?

I just think that 113,000 sounds like a heap of deleted posts. It's around 5% of the total posts - that's one in every twenty posts has been deleted.

This has already been mentioned twice in this thread alone...

About a month solid, perhaps more considering the length of some posts.

To all be read in a 30 day month. You'd have to read 46.29~ posts a minute, non-stop, for 30 days straight.

Let's say you took 30 seconds per post on average. That's 1,000,000 minutes or 694 days!!! So even if you only took 15 seconds it would still almost take a year to complete, not to mention while you're reading people are still posting. Also you have to stay up for a whole year.

Yeah sorry i was working on roughly a second per post (most posts in this thread for instance shouldn't require more than a second to read) and then added on a bit more for good measure. In all fairness it doesn't take me more than a couple of seconds to read a post on average. Some posts are really short so require less time and others are longer so may require a bit longer. I personally never spend more than about 10 seconds reading a post unless it is of direct interest to me.
So it is more like a year. But what a year ay? All those posts from the banned users, the April Fools Day Fiasco... Good times :)

Also , by the time you had stayed up, a years worth of posts would have gone in , thats a good way to a million. . .

Oh well, I came close to guessing the time (only 500 posts too early) :)

Well, the November convo thread had 10k replies, so I think there might be nearly 100k posts from the convo forum.

Oh yeah, to make myself feel a bit better for not having "official" post 2 million, check my sig. :dopey:

What did it used to say before you changed it?

Some more Stats and Figures. (I love stats)

Based on my previous calculations which turned out pretty accurate.

At the current posting rate, we will reach 3,000,000 posts in about 620 days from when the 2,000,000 post was made. So late 2007.

We'll reach 10,000,000 posts in 2019.

By the end of the century, the post count will be a mammoth 53,943,968

Post number 100,000,000 will come some time into the year 2177.

At the end of the millienium 584,261,340 posts will have been made :scared:

Here's to the year 3000 for GTP

(Ok, really bored here, if Jordan started GTP the day the universe started, at the current post rate the post count would be around 8,825,700,000,000,000. I have no idea what the number is, 8 Trillion?)

IIRC, it was a plain :D smiley, I had been saying something about RO_JA's magic cookies or something.

A plain :D you say! thats plagiarism!

Meh, wouldn't have guessed it, if it wasn't to do with the two millionth post

It seems that with the recent deletion of the convo forum, we've dropped back to around ~1,940,000 posts.

This is less than when I started this competition!

So much for all those that said posts in the convo forum didn't contribute to the post count...

So, do we want to run this competition again? :nervous: :ill: 👎
