Sony released a high end Blu Ray player last week, which is rumoured to be a new stylistic direction that the PS4 might also take.

Probably another slow news day article but daum that thing looks awesome, if that actually was the PS4 I'd buy it! :D

That looks like an alien mothership. I love it!

Pictures of the PS4 from the trailer? Or is this announcement God of War related?

I wouldn't get my hopes up on anything related to any specific title.

I'm interested to see how in depth they go on the subject and how much they save for June.

All I need is a name, generic specs, and a confirmed Q4 2013 release date and BOOM. Headshot

Are you hoping it doesn't it? :mischievous: lol

No im hoping it is an announcement but would be funny if the hype train got derailed by another release of a ps vita add on.

I just don't understand why grown men are so childish when it comes to consoles. Teenage fanboys I get but grown men?

All my life I helped Sony fight the console wars

On February 20th I believe they can end it.

So how old are you again?

What can we expect though other than an announcment?,when they announced the PS3 what did they do then?

Edit: Surprised Sony will announce before MS,did they finally learn?

I don't think there would be much to be expected other than officially announcing that the orbis exists. I'd wait until E3/TGS before revealing more about orbis. Hype train and all.

I know it's going to be extremely far out there for this to happen but I hope Sony kept the XMB and refined it. I personally liked it a lot :3

I also hope OtherOS returns in some form.

End what, exactly? Microsoft was willing to lose billions of dollars on the original XBox, and they casually threw even more money at the 360 until it started profiting. Nothing Sony does is going to make a damn bit of difference to Microsoft's position in making consoles; particularly not when Sony's financial position is weak itself.

Competition is good.

And strong consoles with strong competition are the only guarantors of survival of the AAA production.

Without Microsoft (for example), we would never witness such great advancement in both technology for this-gen consoles, as well as for next. Not to even speak about 3rd party studios and their sheer investment in bridging the gap between PC gaming and consoles in strictly graphical field.

Also, there would be much less competition in the field of actual gaming experiences.

Good and healthy Xbox and Playstation platforms are needed for above. Nintendo's deliberately opted to keep their own "low-tech/high-revenue" philosophy and they already suffered heavy consequences on Wii related to 3rd party support. The situation with WiiU is currently only getting worse.

I can't wait to see what Microsoft had prepared. The next-generation is coming, finally. Last 12 months of current gen have already been too much IMO.

Until now we've heard nothing about the upcoming games for the PS4, probably because they have to wait until Sony gives a green light for doing so. My guess is that that will happen as soon as the PS4 is revealed in a few weeks time. And that from then on, the game studios are free to show as much as they like, within their own time frame. Except for general PS4 features that Sony want to keep secret for a longer time.

Well, while looking forward to the PS4 and the next gen of consoles I'm still hesitant about what they have to offer. What makes a console great is not it's technical capacities, but rather it's game library, seeing this thing getting released makes me wonder how much will development costs increase, since it now has to met with higher standards is likely that development costs will arise, ergo a smaller game library and thus fewer games to play, fewer games to play means a decrease of the variety you'll get.

That said, I'm looking forward to see the specs of the thing, and how flexible it will be to develop games, one of the things that helped the 360 on it's first stages was a simple architecture that allowed an easier development cycle, the PS3 uses the cell architecture that makes development harder, making it only available to studios with higher resources. The seemed to have learned the lesson with the vita, perhaps the PS4 SDK will be something reachable to more studios.

How things have been going on for the last few years it indicates that the thing wont have a decent game library in a 2 to 3 years time frame, what it needs to be understood is that a console is nothing without a strong game library, that is what made the PS2 so great and I would like to see that being repeated with the PS4, Microsoft has made a few strong franchises like Halo and GOW(which is dull and stupid, but people seems to like it, doesn't even have a good narrative), also the FM series and ... well stronger pushed to 3td party games like COD, PlayStation can offer a similar lineup for it's console, but it will take some time for it to be lined up and accessible.

Right now I'm more interested on GTA V, Watch_Dogs and MGS5, this could be a cool announcement, but not something to be that hyped right now (unless it's stylish ... like the Monolith from 2001, then I'll be hyped).

I'm not sure if this was posted already but looks very interesting.
Development sources with working knowledge of both next generation consoles have told us that PlayStation 4 will be more powerful than the next Xbox, will ship with a redesigned controller and launch by the end of the year in Japan and the US. PlayStation 4’s European launch will follow in early 2014.

Sony is set to reveal its next PlayStation on Wednesday February 20th at an event dubbed ‘see the future’. Sony Computer Entertainment released a teaser video last night to announce the event. Below, our sources revealed what to expect from PlayStation 4.

The controller

Sources close to the hardware have revealed to us that PS4 will ship with a redesigned controller which is the same size as an existing DualShock but features a small touchpad in place of the existing Select, Start and PS buttons. The tech is based on Vita’s rear touchpad, and is similarly responsive in use.

A new Share button on the controller will, when pressed, launch a new feature that will allow screenshots and video to be distributed online. The PS4 hardware will continually record the most recent 15 minutes of onscreen action (with no processing penalty, claims our source), which users will then be able to edit and broadcast via the Internet.

The launch

We’re told that PlayStation 4 will launch in Japan and the US by Christmas, with a Euro rollout following in early 2014, the delay attributed to the complexities involved in European distribution. Alongside the console, Sony will also introduce a new, improved iteration of its PlayStation Eye peripheral, which remains compatible with the PlayStation Move controller. Move will be available at launch, but it’s not clear yet whether it will be bundled with the hardware. Sony has already earned an enormous amount of goodwill among studios working with PS4 development hardware. Privately, Sony representatives have conceded that the company made a mistake in creating such esoteric architecture for PS3, and its strategy for PS4 gives developers more opportunities this time around, notably because the hardware is much more PC-like in its makeup than PS3.

We have confirmed with sources that recently leaked tech specs are accurate. Though Durango devkits offer 8GB of DDR3 RAM, compared to Orbis’s 4GB, Sony’s GDDR5 solution is capable of moving data at 176 gigabytes per second, which should eliminate the sort of bottlenecks that hampered PS3 game performance. Importantly, we’ve learned that Sony has told developers that it is pushing for the final PS4 RAM to match up to Microsoft’s 8GB.

Both platforms are driven by eight-core AMD CPUs clocked at 1.6GHz, with Microsoft opting for a D3D11.x GPU from an unknown source and Sony utilising a more capable solution in AMD’s ‘R10XX’ architecture, alongside the so-called ‘Liverpool’ system-on-chip.

It’s clear Sony has designed a system that, on paper, outperforms Microsoft’s next Xbox. One source familiar with both platforms tells us that in real terms Sony’s console is “slightly more powerful” and “very simple to work with”.

Ultimately, the performance differences between the two consoles will have as much bearing on multiplatform releases as the differences between PS3 and 360 – very little – but Sony will be expecting big-budget firstparty releases such as the PS4 Uncharted sequel to demonstrate its console’s superiority.

I hope the controller redesign is more than that, just sounds like the exact same controller with a touch pad in the middle. Hardly a redesign the same as adding a 'PS' button there for the PS3 wasn't.

How about this with a touchscreen?

gt6 ps4 confirmed.

That's twice you've posted that, how exactly does this news confirm GT6 any more than any other similar news about the PS4?

They were funny but they were actually going the direction I would like with the 'grip' section, bigger and smoother. Just not huge and banana like and they're onto a winner with me.
