PlayStation Eye - UPDATE: Customize LittleBigPlanet sackboys w/PS Eye

I liked the not so subtle hint they gave in that article:

"why does everyone keep mentioning Little Big Planet?"
I'm guessing this means they are trying to find a way to use this technology with LBP so that we can quickly and easily add our own objects into our games. Where this could be a serious problem for Sony though, is when people add obscene objects into games and make them available to anyone for download.

This alone might be enough of a legal problem that may cause this technology to be closed to public games. It certainly is impressive though, and I for one can't wait to see how it develops.

If they can have guys just watching for stat padders in Warhawk and Microsoft responds to complaints of offensive language in Halo, I am sure they can have some way of monitoring this.

Of course, at the same time I have heard about some stuff put on cars in Forza, so who knows?

Just got myself the PSEye as it was in the sale nearly half price brand new, it was the eye of judgment pack and i got big packs of cards half price too.

I will post impressions up soon.

Well after messing about with some stuff for the PSEye, i can say its quite a novel thing, but im still skeptical on the longevity of the use it will get.

Eye Of Judgment:

Well the graphics are nice and functional and the game itself plays really well the idea of buying all the cards is pretty rubbish, hence probably why its not so big, because £8 retail for a pack of cards is expensive.

Eye Create:

Had loads of fun with this and I can see me using it a bit more.

Trials of Topoq:

Fun if not very hard game, but of a novelty but i can see this been used at parties or when people who dont usually play games or own a Wii will like it.

and we also have a Japanese interactive painting thing that while looks great and the music/sound is great too is a little pointless.

Overall I like the PSEye and if any game i get supports it I will be sure to use it. If you do decide to get one, make sure it a well lit room that you use it in, because it like the light.

I'm trying to get hold of the camera on it's own, OOS everywhere! I don't fancy the card game quite frankly, but for this price here plus a fiver off code = dt7aquwhf, might just get the whole package for £35 :D

Interesting little bit that came in quietly for 2.35.

This feature allows players to record their gameplay sessions and either save the resulting clips to the PS3 hard disk, or have the footage instantly uploaded to YouTube. While Mainichi Issyo is currently the only PS3 title to have this feature, Sony's plans for YouTube compatibility appear to be a bit more expansive.

It turns out that the YouTube compatibility is one of those secret updates that occasionally make it unannounced into a PlayStation 3 firmware update. The functionality was added to the PS3 operating system via Version 2.35 of the firmware, which became available to PS3 owners today.

Having your firmware updated to 2.35 doesn't mean you can go into any game, record your gameplay sessions, and upload the clips to YouTube, though. Individual game titles have to support the feature for it to work, and currently Mainichi Issyo is the only title to do so. However, Sony told Japan's Impress Watch, "It's possible that similar functionality will be added to other games as well."

In Mainichi Issyo's case, videos are captured at 320x240, 30 frames per second and saved in an MPEG-4 file at 768kbps. Sound is recorded at 64kbps in AAC format. The maximum clip length is ten minutes.

Upon selecting to finish their recording sessions, players are given the choice of either saving their clips to the hard disk or uploading them to YouTube. Choose the latter option, and you're prompted for your YouTube user name and password. The game then uploads the clip on the spot, showing a progress bar while you wait for the upload to complete.

Now this could be very handy.

Whoa guys check this out...

uploading clips from games directly from your PS3 onto youtube....pretty useful feature...cant wait for this!

This feature got me thinking...

💡

Now wouldn't it be nice if they could also make it so that we can seemlessly upload our videos from our PS Eye / EyeCreate to YouTube?

PixelJunk Eden Will Support YouTube Uploading
By Jem Alexander Published on Jun 4th 2008 1:00PM by PS3fanboy.com
Japanese site Watch Impress has a new batch of screenshots showing more of the gorgeous art style of upcoming PSN game PixelJunk Eden. Not only that, but they include a few exciting tid bits of info regarding the game. Specifically, they mention that the soundtrack consists of almost 100 minutes of specially recorded music by Kyoto-based artist Baiyon.

The game will also include 3-player co-op play (no online, presumbly) as well as trophies and remote play support. Perhaps most intriguing, however, is the mention of screen recording and YouTube uploading compatibility. This was recently added to the PS3 SDK but we didn't expect to see it integrated into new games so quickly. PixelJunk Eden comes out sometime this Summer and you can bet your bottom dollar we'll be grabbing it day one. Will you?

From a recent interview with Mark Healey, founder of Media Molecule the developer of LittleBigPlanet:

Can we use the Playstation Eye to customize our characters?

Absolutely ... For example, you can wear a cardboard box and put a sticker of yourself there. And presto, you have a little creepy version of yourself walking around in the game. So yes, you can absolutely do that.

:)👍
