Well, um, regardless of what happens tomorrow CFM ... I really can't come up with a good reason why I would not want to be promoted. Two weeks running now I've put in an effort that would place me fairly well in D2, so while I know the Rally won't be the same ;) my skills certainly have improved quite dramatically.

If you think me worthy, I'd be honored.

CFM, I'm pushing real hard on this week... If you feel like you want to, I'm willing to be promoted before this week is over just to give the D3ers who like the idea of a podium a better chance... And Kolyana's some good competition, I think I've found the person that I'll be chasing in D2... I'll be looking forward to it...

Kolyana
I thought I was meant to be chasing you? :P
Lol, GUESS NOT!

* :guilty: off to do some rallying because I haven't done more than TWO rallying tests yet... :ouch: *

I'll be using my DS2 for the Rallying ... I ran a few laps last week and found that while the wheel is intense fun, I was actually instantly quicker with the DS2 and chase mode, even though I've never used the DS2 and chase mode before!

I put it down to my time with Rally Sport Challenge on the XBox ... never used a wheel for that at all.

@Kolyana: actually with those splits you've posted this week I think you're ready for Div 1! Don't come and push us down the Div 2 leaderboard at the last second :sly:

Nice run BTW 👍

Red, it can be a bummer to put in so much hard work and find yourself woefully lacking and trailing around the back of the pack (one reason why Teledriel and I added the unofficial D3 leaderboard, to give everyone something to chase), but I can assure you that you WILL improve. I finished 20th on my first week and I raced my heart out ... heck, one week I put everything I had into it and mustered a stunning 11th or something ... but I was overjoyed .. I had improved.

Racing hard and often will improve your skills, so the WRS becomes a challenge to yourself more than against some of the freakishly fast guys around here. Pick some guys around your skill level and target beating them, rather than walking away with a gold cup ... you'll be surprised how soon you're working your way up the ranks.

Which is why I think a few guys around here are saying that it'snot about how often you race, or the points, or even where you place, but rather the simple fun of driving and improving and the friendly competition.

[rant of tired person]
I'm not worried about improvement so much as I am bothered by the fact that I've raced for ten years or so with the GT series and despite playing it nearly every day, I can still barely compete.

And now that I have a job (that likes to overwork me to the wee hours of the night and then some even though I'm a flippin' minor), I'm often too tired to race. I finally sat down to a two hour session last time, spending hard-earned money (in the game) on new skylines to try out. I made a great time of 1'25.023. But...I forgot to save the replay after I made some adjustments to the car. I thought for sure I wouldn't get close to it again.... Then I made the 1'24.xxx time about an hour later. I thought it was perfect! Yes, I can see where you say it's all about fun, but when I do something I think is just darned good, I figure I could be proud of it. Just turns out you guys are even more perfect at the races I guess.

I think it may be I'm more frustrated at my work for not giving me enough time to race. I still haven't got a legal time for this week and it's the last day! Curses....

I've challenged myself the most in GT3 than with any of the other games in the series. I would literally spend days testing cars on the complex string with stock everything except tires. I would give 'em all racing super-slicks and spend 4 hours with each car just improving my time and skills. It was also pretty fun to see which car was the best, either at speed or at handling or maybe it just felt good to drive. I think if I can get back to that in WRS, I might have more fun. Of course, I don't have entire days to myself anymore what with a job. Today's the last day of school and I have only one exam. Next year is the final year of school for me. After that, I may or may not have any free time at all.

@CFM, if you're bothering to read all this, it's not that the WRS isn't fun--not at all! it is awesome to compete!--but I'm quite frustrated in the fact ten years experience isn't enough here. lol

Edit: I forgot to mention that I'm really appreciative of the support, Kolyana. Your efforts at trying to cheer me up are quite nice! :)

Oh, BTW, after beating you my first week in the WRS, you've been my target Koly. LOL Maybe that was just a bad week for you though. :-/

OK, I think everyone's pretty much had thier say. For now it sems that most people want to be promoted as I have been doing before, so that's how it will be, I'll move a couple people a week if I feel someone is ready. Hopefully whoever gets bumped up will feel as ready as I think they are.

As far as D1 replay verification, I'll decide on that and announce it when I'm ready. And the special events that I mentioned I'll try to start getting arrangements made to do one or both sometime soon, as the response seemed pretty positive on those. Thanks for the comments everyone, back to racing now.👍

CFM, don't mean to be too rude, but I'm very confused with what's gone on. Why'd you close the main thread?

Anyway, I think some people suggested that you be a little more aggressive when it comes to promoting and demoting. Thus meaning, when D2ers are worse than something like say, MID D3, they get demoted, and when D3ers post times that are at the top of D2, they'd probably get moved up to D2. Now, of course you look back at older races as well, and see where people've been.

Personally, and I'm very sure I'm not alone here, but if you're going to keep some of us in D3, there are a LOT of people in D3 that are not going to be happy competing with people who should be in D2.

Blah blah, closer competition is possible than what's currently arranged, but you know that.

I'm just a little irked that only ONE person was moved up this week. Looking back through results threads and following along the leaderboards over the weeks I've been here I don't see nor understand how one would get promoted. But that's not up to me anyway.

Just thought I'd point out that the top D3 times are good enough for the bottom of D1, the top D2 times are good for mid D1, the bottom of D2 is good enough for the bottom of D3, and etc... Hell, I was posting T times that were giving the very top of D2(and some D1) runs for their money, T1 of 29.089, T2 of 1.00.6xx, T3 of 1.26.4xx, T4 of 1.48.6xx... And then we have to take into account that people don't get to spend as much time as they'd like some weeks, so that COULD account for why they're at the bottom of their division, but that's not always the case.

It seems as if a fourth division for the people who are less experienced doesn't seem like a bad idea anymore.

This is for another topic, but it needs to be mentioned:
I'm also confused as to why people would want to not post their T times for the week, maybe a podium hungry finish or something? No offense to anyone who would and does do so of course, but why?!
[/rant]

I'd like to hear what some other people say about this.

Kyle, out

I don't mean to be rude either, but CFM closed the original thread 'cos he must have got what he wanted from it. Starting another one isn't going to work. It's just going to get closed too.

Yeah, that's what I assumed, but I didn't feel that I should take it to PM because I know there are others with more to say about it and he lives in another time zone. If he wants to appeal a little more to everyone, here is a place for more talk.
