Great shot Franz! Simple and classic. 👍

atlop: How did you get that without toying with the levels? Cranked contrast on a black/white photo?
Cranked up contrast and brightness. Actually the photo was not black/white but since paint.net reduces saturation when upping contrast the result with 100% contrast is basically a photo with only black and white dots.

The thing is we have rules about contrast and stuff but there is no clear definition of what contrast is and how it should be adjusted. Also like someone mentioned, adjusting gamma is allowed but few programs have a lever you can pull that says gamma in it. These things matter because whatever way you adjust contrast (and brightness etc) your software needs to do something to hue/saturation/value = colors. And different programs do this differently. There have been a some attempts to start discussion about these things in the past but there really was zero interest. Now that we have so few people left I doubt it would be worth it anymore. But still if someone wants to get into this I'm in, it has always bothered me to know so little about the theories behind all this photo editing and I'll take any opportunity to learn more.

+1. I always felt intrigued about this things. Say, for example, in this competition Brightness and Contrast adjustments are allowed, but not Levels, and what Levels do, mainly is to adjust the brightness and contrast. I always use Levels in my 2.0 shots, and I find much more easier to use it. The same thing with curves, although I prefer Levels. You can do the same things in both B\C and Levels adjustments.

Brightness and contrast is a quite generic term. You can modify them in some different ways and the B/C feature is a very basic fearure for casual editting.

Levels and curves have got more precision and also work different.
