Pokémon Games Discussion Thread (Gotta Discuss 'Em All!)

Mega Stones are at the Battle Tree and are worth 64 BP each. What a grind.

You can reset EVs in Sun/Moon, you need to by a drink in the Plaza that does it.
I get a significant number of battle points just by having a complete dex in Pokemon Bank every time I load it. I assume I'll be able to transfer them to Sun/Moon just as I can in the current remakes.

Edit.

Review from a good review site.

This here is for shiny hunters, traditional EV trainers and anyone who wants a Lv. 10 Salamence in Pokemon Sun (since Salamence is exclusive to Sun, there's likely a Moon counterpart but don't know what it is yet).

SOS Battles actually start a chain every time an ally Pokemon is summoned, EV values are raised everytime a Pokemon is called, it gets more and more likely to call its evolved forms (not sure if this counts for Trade, Stone and Location evolution) the chance of a Pokemon being called being Shiny also increases. Eventually you can even get Pokemon with its HA (so this is the method to get HA Pokemon in this game).

Had a look at the Ultra Beast catch rates and...

dear lord they are all over the place.

UB-01 is 45
UB-02 Absorption (Sun Exclusive) is 25
UB-02 Beauty (Moon Exclusive) is 255!!!
UB-03 Lightning is 30

2 unknown UBs are 25 and 255 respectively. I assume these are exclusives too and are UB-04. With the 25 catch rate one being Moon exclusive and the 255 one being Sun exclusive due to how UB-02 works.

UB-05 Glutton is 15

the one that is being debated as an Ultra Beast or a Legendary Pokemon is 3

EDIT: The Prankster Ability will no longer work if you're targeting a Dark Type.

I think the biggest target was Klefki and Sableye. Especially when in Gen VI, Sableye prankster would still kick in on the turn it could Mega Evolve thanks to turn prder being decided before Megas (thank god this changed).

Sun & Moon is finally out today here in Australia :D.

I didn't go to the midnight release since I'm a morning person and I have to be somewhere today but there is a game shop on the way which I'll stop by to pick it up.

I'M SO EXCITED :) :) :).

My copy will be delivered sometime in the afternoon.

Not entirely sure when I'm gonna really sink my teeth into it, considering that I'm currently playing two long JRPGs (Persona 3 and SMT Nocturne) as well as a few other miscellaneous games (Silent Hill 4, Megami Tensei, Halo Anniversary)

Interesting, the limitation didn't really need to happen due to Dark Void now being 50/50 but I'm fine with it.

Details on Z-Moves

Marshadow, Mew, Pikachu, Eevee, Sun/Moon Starters, Snorlax, Alola Raichu, Tapus and Ash-Pikachu have their own Z-Moves.

Z-Hidden Power won't change typing. Z-Hidden Power will always be Breakneck Blitz.

Z-Status Moves work and have side effects (with the exception of Assist, Metronome and Nature Power). Z-Belly Drum recovers HP before Depleting for Attack Boost. Z-Celebrate/Happy Hour/Geomancy/Conversion increases all stats by 1. Most importantly though

Splash has been buffed!!!

Z-Splash increases the Attack stat by 3.

I'm not, cause now my vgc smeargle is either going to have to be scrapped or reworked

Just realized that nothing special happens to Lunatone and Solrock in this game.

THIS IS AN OUTRAGE!!! I WAS EXPECTING TO SEE LUNATONE AND SOLROCK TO BE MASSIVELY OP, WHAT A WASTED POTENTIAL, THIS IS WORSE THAN NOT BEING ABLE TO SIT DOWN OR SPLASH BEING OP.

Not buying the game anymore,.

That's for when Pokemon Lunar Eclipse and Solar Eclipse come out

Basically what could be done prior with the Juice Shoppe in conjunction with perilous soup. You wanna talk about a grind to get the berries that make this...

Good stuff, you people are just a bunch of sour grapes, making me regret what I want for my b-day.

Tip for fighting Totem Pokemon...

DO NOT FIGHT THE TOTEM POKEMON's ALLY until you defeat the Totem Pokemon.

I tried that by killing Totem Wishiwashi's ally Wishiwashi, all it did was get Totem Wishiwashi to summon a Alomamola which knows Heal Pulse.

Now 3/4 of the way on my gameplay.

I must admit, the cutscene with Lillie and her Mothers bed tear'd me up a little. I'm glad that the story in this game is a MASSIVE improvement from X/Y & OR/AS and reaches B/W levels, I actually feel something for the characters again, even Hau who I thought would just be annoying is a great comrade who is also a great comic relief and has made me laugh a few times.

My current team (all on Lv. 42)

Primarina
Arcanine
Lycanroc (Midday)
Sandslash.

Kommo-o should be included soon in my team since he is on the fourth island.

Hello everyone, I found this thread yesterday and decided to get involved because I'm having a blast with Moon so far and I remember @RESHIRAM5 from GT6. I just arrived in Akala Island in my playthrough. Here's my current team:

Munchlax (Mystery Gift), Lv.19
Pichu, Lv. 20, looking forward to getting Alolan Raichu
Trumbeak, Lv. 20
Brionne (named Integrity (Undertale reference ;))), Lv. 21

I've got to say, I was surprised to find out that Hau uses the starter that's weak against your starter, being the rival and all. Also, considering the Melemele kahuna (can't remember his name) had Pokemon at levels 14-15, I think my team may be just a little bit overleveled... :P

All the Ultra Beast seem to focus on 1 or more Particular Attribute, except for 1 which is an all-rounder.
All of them have the same ability - Beast Boost. They get a buff to their highest stats when they KO a Pokemon. Basically a wildcard Moxie.

In turn all have a really awful weak spot that you can exploit to get rid of them.

Currently at the Pokemon League, honestly, the final 1/4 of the game is a lot less fun than the first 3/4.

Except for the story which did carry its momentum, everything felt so bare, I didn't even feel like I explored everything on the final island not to mention how spacious it was with nothing around it. There's also no "last challenge" before going to the Pokemon League which might seem fine but during the final 1/4 they A.I Pokemon level jump by 5 twice, which forces non-EXP. Share players (like me) to grind my entire teams 🤬 which shouldn't be an issue if they actually put in content in all this empty spacious where we could gain more levels so the jump wouldn't so daunting.

Feels like they either ran out of ideas or ran out of time.

I beat the game but everything feels so locked away.

Levels jump again to the 60's and unlike in BW, where you could just fight Audino's, there's no grinding spots so I'm literally stuck getting my 🤬 kicked, can't do IV Training either since I need Lv. 100 and shards to even buy the Bottle Caps which the shards are in Poke Pelago but to buy the islands, I need a Box field with Pokemon and that's only "Phase 1", I need 45 Box Pokemon to even Poke Pelago EV Train.

So I'm literally stuck (except Plaza grinding) until January where I can transfer all my Pokemon over where I finally can do things.

Meanwhile I haven't even gotten to the first trial yet :P
If only the gameplay past the 3/4 mark carried the massive momentum :(.

I don't hate this game, still enjoyed it like every Pokemon but I feel cheated, like first the game got me B/W levels of hooked, I was excited building my team and exploring the land but then asides the story it kicked me in the nuts and showed ne X/Y and ORAS levels of bland and overly rushed.

I disagree, I felt like Emerald had a lot more stuff going for Hoenn by far. Except for the Post-Game story and battle with Kyogre/Groudon, nothing really stood out at all (IMO).

Found out that instead of an instant EV reset on all stats, you have to buy one per stat individually and they are really only available at really high Plaza levels or if you have someone who already has it. Not to mention you can only buy the stuff once per day.

I miss Super Training so much :(. In fact, I miss the whole PSS - Pokemon Amie - Super Training Interface, you could do anything at anytime and anywhere, even in your normal quest you could get a sudden trade or battle. Plaza IMO tried way too hard to be easier to understand but just ended up being complex and unnecessary. Poke Pelago is pretty alright though. Just wish the Pokemon Box requirement to get more stuff wasn't needed.

I'd like to retract a few things I've said earlier.

1. There is good grinding spot that I just uncovered for Post-Game to get you to the Lv. 60s

2. Unlike Gen VI, there's more Post-Game than just a single area, while it's still small there is a rather sizable road to traverse through until you reach the Battle Tree

3. While I do think the Plaza is an unnecessary grind to what we had in Gen VI, grinding for FC is actually very easy in online thanks to the mission system. Already Rank 12. I think you just got to keep at it until you unlock the 3 Star attractions which is what you want for your competitive needs. You can also buy facilities from others.

So yeah, my rant was incredibly uninformed.

Hey, considering you've beaten the game - where could I find a Mimikyu?

Edit: Hey, don't worry. Everyone makes mistakes.

The same place as where you do the Ghost Trial (a.k.a the new Whitney's Miltank).

I need to head back there, I love Mimikyu :)

Hope it's going to take me longer than you to get to post game :nervous: I don't like to leave an area until I've caught all the available Pokemon.

I tried to make my Playtime as long as possible without bothering to complete the Pokedex (I never do). I visited previous areas over and over to discover new thing and even had to deal woth grinds due to a Non-EXP. Share run.

However there is a Post-Game story involving the UB to keep you interested

It is a 300 Pokedex, so you probably will have plenty of time to catch all the available Pokemon. Unlike me, who just seddled with these 6 and ignored everything else:

Solgeleo
Kommo-o
Primarina
Arcanine
Sandslash
Lycanroc

Didn't even bother with the Zygarde pieces so you can also do that.
