Pokémon Games Discussion Thread (Gotta Discuss 'Em All!)

I'm waiting until post-game as well as the Pokemon Bank update before I go out and do all the EV things. You don't need it for the single player campaign so I don't find it urgent.

Buneary - Has Klutz, so not really going to stay for long.
So was my Lopunny, originally sad but realized it does have a Mega Evolution I can use in the post-game.

I recently got frustrated. I was intending on adding a Gabite as my 5th and last member (because the 6th slot is always for the main legendary) for my team but seriously 🤬 S.O.S chaining. I was stuck with Krokorok and the helped didn't arrive until 10 turns later and then it was a non-stop barrage of Krokorok and 1 Golett until eventually, the Krokorok helper decided to perform double suicide by using Swagger on its partner to kill himself before I attacked so it ended the chain. 🤬 🤬 🤬

I'm half & half on the EVs front at the moment. My Butterfree is currently thinning out the Furfrou population in Hau'oli City, decent Exp. from them so might even get Rowlet in on the act...

I'm kinda glad I don't tend to S.O.S Chain Pokémon that often, because I'd be super annoyed at being unable to get the one I need. That said, though... why did it Swagger its partner?

I'm already pretty sure on at least 4 of my team, but 5th & 6th slot is pretty open. I probably will have the Legendary in the team for a bit, but I like to keep all six being non-legendary going into end-game. Researched this:
Houndour is a Poké Pelago exclusive for Ultra Sun
Purely did so because I got curious about it... that's pretty neat!

Just about ready for beat the first Trial now, although I have work Sunday 6am til 4pm (need to really be sleeping now, tbh) so my progress will have to wait...

I assume the Swagger was done as an attack boost for the partner and the confusion was just a risk that they took.

Currently at Poni Island, the story has actually started to change quite a bit the moment you meet the Ultra Recon Squad at Aether Foundation during the invasion. Lusamine while still an 🤬 to her children is a lot less sinister and selfish.

Another 6hrs before I can get back to playing. I only managed an hour of sleep last night, brain wouldn't shut off until I pretty much just told myself I might as well try to stay awake instead...

Inkay is quickly becoming my main by virtue of the others strictly only battling pokés of a certain EV yield. Contrary proving its worth in abundance right now, so glad it eats up the stat changes. Can bring Rowlet in on a number of battles given most are Atk of Spe EV critters. Buneary is getting some love at the moment too, mind.

Came across the Mantine Surf area with the BP Shops. I got tempted to pass over some BP from the Bank but I'll see what the others have... Tailwind is looking mighty tempting on Rowlet! Z-Tailwind + max affection + Leaf Blade/Shadow Claw = ALL THE CRITS!

I just finished with Necrozma in the main story and just a heads up:

YOU BETTER PREPARE FOR IT!!!

I went into it blind, it one shot all my Pokemon, it's way too fast and hits massively hard. You can't get out of by Running or Catching as it puts you in the fused Kyurem scenario where you have to kill it. I was able to beat it but only after spamming Revives, X items and Sylveons Baby-Doll Eyes so I can out PP Photon Geyser and survive hits from Smart Strike.

Having a lot of fun with the Ultra Worm Ride. I love the atmosphere it gives of exploring new worlds and finding pretty much any Pokemon notin the Alolan dex.

An amazing thing happened in one of them was that I was able to find a Shiny Heliolisk :D.

Definitely not going to spoil myself on any more new finds as far as encounters and content. I have a week off-shift come Thursday so plenty of time to proceed through the game.

The goofy little Alolan wave the Ultra Recon Squad does in Verdant Cave had me in fits! First trial went without a hitch.... so far so normal, no issues to speak of just yet. Learning Synthesis on Rowlet via leveling before I evolve him. Will likely do the same for Leaf Blade before reaching Final Evolution.

Oh Resh, did you not use any Roto-Loto Boosters for the Necrozma fight? They might have come in handy... since they up all stats by 1 stage.

I used a Booster after I weakened it's attack enough with Sylveon, as using 1 alone still lead to my Pokemon being one shot.

Turns out Necrozma isn't Post-Game by the way. You get it at Mount Lanikila.

Oh Christ! Fair enough.... guess that lowering its attack first WOULD be more effective at first than buffing Sylveon's stats... 66% of a base 1-Ftonne of Atk is better than 50% buff to base 65 Def...

Seems rather OP having Legendary AND Necrozma before Post-game...

It's also Level 65 too when you get Necrozma. I said it was going in my team but due to ridiculous high level while my team were all Level 57. While I still decided to keep on my team I'm avoiding bringing it out in battle as much as possible (had to break this rule twice to heal my other 5 members while in the Pokemon League) UNTIL, all my Pokemon catch up to Necrozma level.

My team after the Pokemon League:

Gouki, the Incineroar Lv. 58 (name based off the Gouki archetype in Yugioh, which are Wrestlers based off animals)
Judy, the Lopunny Lv. 58 (name straight from Judy Hopps from Zootopia)
Navi, the Sylveon Lv. 58 (HEY LISTEN!!!)
Sea Unicorn, the Dewgong Lv. 58 (no real reason)
Jaws, the Garchomp Lv. 58 (name says it all)
Z-Arc, the Dusk Mane Necrozma Lv. 65 (name based off the main antagonist from Yugioh ARC-V who fused with his dragons to become Supreme King Z-Arc and was reborn by forcing his descendants (in a way) to fuse)

Right now just using Ultra Worm Ride as a way to grind my team up to Lv. 65 with Necrozma before going any further.

Not gonna be doing a nuzlocke, but I'm gonna play through Ultra Moon with a couple special rules of my own to add a little bit of extra challenge.

1. Whenever a Pokemon levels up, I must roll a d20. If I roll a 20, the Pokemon dies of natural causes.
2. Whenever a Pokemon faints, I must roll a d20 5 times before healing them at a Pokemon Center. If I roll a 20, they die. Using a revival item in the field immediately after they faint reduces the number of d20 rolls to 3.
3. No catching duplicate Pokemon

Ideally my final team will consist of a:
Decidueye (GRS/GHS)
Houndoom (FRE/DRK)
Jolteon (ELC)
Ninetails (ICE/FRY)

and two others by the end of it. They'll be caught Pokémon, which for Houndour to have the nature I hope for will require a bit of luck... type coverage looks pretty solid except for the glaring Rock weakness, but that's where I hope to cover with the last two slots.

Would be nice to have a battle once I'm up to speed and finalised. Once in post-game I will re-optimise the EVs, but would be nice to battle people's end-game teams in 3v3.

I wouldn't mind going into a 5v5 (not 6 because Necrozma gives me an unfair advantage ), you still need that score to be settled after our last encounter with Sun/Moon anyway

I'm trying to remember how embarrassing the outcome was for me! Half glad its a hazy memory now, I feel like enlightening me will give me nightmares.

I mainly remember trying to focus on giving my Sandslash the spotlight because it had the best matchups against most of your team but I never got to use it period because of circumstances you put me in that I had to get over

I had a little look back through the thread a bit, and yeah I had;

Espeon (leading)
Umbreon
Talonflame
Solgaleo
Lycanroc
Decidueye

You had:
Primarina
Sandslash
Lycanroc
Arcanine
Solgaleo
Kommo-o

It was a super fun battle, I don't know who my team's MVP was... I'd say Primarina or Arcanine definitely were your MVP. I'd have to say Espeon for mine, honestly due to the Reflect and Future Sight interference... or probably Talonflame for shutting out Solgaleo with Bulk and Flame Body.

WFWW-WWWW-WWW3-SX8V
The Battle Video, if it still exists...

I've already tried this and have now leveled my Pokemon for the Episode: RR

Also, Pokemon Bank has been updated to support Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon :)

Picked up Ultra Moon at lunchtime.

How long until I can get to them?

What one, RR or the Chanseys?

Chanseys are post-game at Poni Plains. RR are after a couple of post-game missions.

So I remembered you get an Eevee from the Daycare... gonna clear Trial #2 first before I grab it so I can catch a Fletchling... unless the Roton Egg Hatch boost doesn't stack with Flame Body...

To be honest, I completely forgot about that, I just caught my Eevee on the route before .

Got through to the Battle Tree now, not gonna do it until I get all my transfers and EV Training sorted though.

Onto the third trial now. Buneary evolved and I never realised that Lopunny is actually decent until now.

Been going through a lot of Festival Plaza and Mantine Surf, need to backtrack and pick up a certain team member when I get a chance, one that isn't part of the original 4 I posted.

Lopunny and Inkay are my mains until I get up to speed with Rowlet and Butterfree again. Eevee will get a chance to shine once I can get a Thunderstone, Houndour will have to wait until later down the line.

That second trial was nuts, Bubble hitting as hard as it does was ridiculous and I lolnopeKO'd Totem as soon as I saw the second helper.

I actually had myself a Sylveon at this point , it was able to tank a lot of the shots.

A tip for Totem Pokemon is to never battle the helper and before the help is called don't do too much damage to it. You never want the 2nd Helper to appear at all. I always use the first turn to buff my Pokemon or debuff the Totem (except Mimikyu which I just Sheer Cold it ) and then proceed to attack the Totem ignoring the helper until I beat the Totem.

I just caught a Kyurem for no reason , was thinking I had to, to get the DNA Splicers for my Black Kyurem but no, it is in the same place as it was last game. I know I was expecting too much (like hoping Sun and Moon on having a bit of emphasis on Lunatone and Solrock, but I would've liked to see some moment in the game involving Kyurem and Necrozma as they are both "incompleted" Pokemon that are completed through confusion, though I guess Colress giving a solid nod to it is fine enough.

Kiawe's Trial was a prime example of why you take out the Totem Pokémon after the first call for aid. Having that Salazzle hop in after Marowak used Detect made me glad I saved up a Z-Move...

Had to get a Staryu for my team at this point because I had no effective Fire counter and even still... those attacks from Marowak were brutal. He did KO a few of my guys in this one... need to really up my game a bit...

Next one shouldn't be as difficult as I have the resistances and the moves to subdue Mallow's Totem Pokémon easy. Butterfree, Ibis (my Rowlet) and Lopunny can take care of this... I also managed to catch a Mawile! Not female, but maaaaybe a candidate for my final 6.

That Houndour looks like it might be elusive... just got to the stage I need to be for it. Do ya know what's up with the Vulpix sidequest?

The Detect + Torment combo really got me

I hear people say Sopholoces has the hardest trial, and people often found Mina's to be pretty easy. I was the complete opposite, screw that new Fairy Totem Pokemon . I probably would've said Acerola if I didn't decide to sack it with Sheer Cold though (especially since I found out Totem Mimikyu now has a way to heal itself)

As for Vulpix, it's essentially a free Bottle Cap. You go there the next day and receive from the lady who witness the event.

At the moment Kiawe's was the toughest for me... but I'll bear the next few in mind.

So you didn't check the Route 8 Aether hut? You give it a Big Malasada in the Aether Hut, I'm just going back there now as its been a day since I saw it last.

Oh that one, I though you meant the one at the Town before the Nursery. I have no idea about it, I went there, they told me to give it some food and just left it there to die

Yet the game still treats me as a hero of all Pokemon. Expecting a secret post-game quest for me where the Vulpix evolves into Ninetales and gathers an army of Pokemon to try and kill me

Well I went back and Vulpix now wants to play outside so naturally I say "I'll protect it!" as it plays... gotta go back tomorrow to see what happens next.

I kinda decided to be a huge 🤬 to everyone as much as I can in my Ultra Sun playthrough to contrast my experience with Sun as I was generally giving natural answers in that game, although I couldn't bring myself to do it to Lillie

Waiting to borrow a friends 3DS to trade my Pokemon from Sun that are holding items over so I can use them in the Battle Tree, in the mean time trying to catched a 4th Guzzlord. I apparently got really lucky finding and catching 2 almost immediately in Ultra Sun as finding a Guzzlord in Ultra Space is apparently one of the hardest thing to do in Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, and me trying to go for my 4th is starting to show this theory to be true. I keep going to Ultra Forest (Kartanas world) instead.
