Pokémon Games Discussion Thread (Gotta Discuss 'Em All!)

I never said they shouldn't update it. That's all fine.

Never said you did. Point was plain and simple, Pokemon company sucks at being continuous and so be it "alternate universe" or canon one it wouldn't change the fact that things have changed over the times.

I wouldn't think so completely. In the main canon the gym has always kept its look.

Also back with your Snivy and Pikachu scenario, while it was bonkers especially since Pikachu recently tied with a Latios however the writers tried (emphasis on the try because it is still pretty 🤬) to explain it by having Pikachu unable to use Electric attacks (I don't know why you would in the first place).

However I feel like Ash and Pikachu have a different consistency issue and feels more intentional than other examples as to reset Ash and Pikachu every region.

That's not how it works though, and even the Pokemon company realize this and still suck at doing such. If it was this convenient then they shouldn't have ever wrote in Pikachu joining ash from region to region. Especially when many battles before this have shown Ash be very inventive about getting around certain barriers that would hinder Pikachu normally winning. The Snivy scenario will always be a crap justification to bring in an early rival for ash to later on take down.

Same goes with this, it's a lack of imagination on the company's part and instead they just say "alternate universe" no worries.

I never said it was a good way to reset Ash and Pikachu. Ash has shown to be in a pattern to fit whatever the appropriate shonen protagonist at the time is which is massively inconsistent I agree, that's why in DP, Ash was relatively smart from the get go leaving most of the development to Dawn but in BW Ash was reverted to an idiot which coexisted with what the generic shonen protagonist was at the time.

I always though alternate universe was a lame excuse to avoid consistency and plot holes however regardless of that it is still a excuse.

Just so you know unless I say you're claiming to say something, you don't have to tell me "never said blah blah blah". Again never said you did, this is a general commentary on how craptastic the anime portion of the franchise is.

I'm guessing this is the 20th Anniversary movie? If so than yeah, the 20th movie is apparently set in a alternative universe so there are differences.
No. Its from latest episode of Sun and Moon Anime which features Brock and Misty from 1st gen.

Oh, then that makes the entire argument with @LMSCorvetteGT2 redundant, I do apologize

I guess in hindsight, yeah that makes sense, again sorry.

Background in the show looks good and you know pokemon anime, they always do a cut sequence or set up nicely and then the rest of the show is sub-par animation wise.
I haven't been up tp date with the Sun and Moon anime in awhile. So I guess, I'll just have to take a peak again to find out.

So I went and grabbed Silver for the 3DS VC yesterday. Started it up today. It's going well. Less than 5 hours in and I've already beaten Whitney. And that with a real hodge-podge of a team too. I'm pretty sure that Bayleef, Dunsparce, Onix and Heracross is not the most conventional team to have after 3 badges, but they've all served me very well and I hope they continue to do so. Might wanna find out how trading works this time round though. If there's an opportunity to get me a Steelix at some point, I would gladly take it.

I was already sold on the game before but this is even huge.

New evil team that actually comes from Ultra Space, it appears Ultra Moon has the more mature duo while Ultra Sun has the more childish duo. Judging by the trailer, they seem to take over the roll that Aether Foundation employees had of taking Cosmog. So it appears Lusamine and Guzma role might be reduced or changed to be less villainy to make room for Ultra Recon Squad and Necrozma.

Also travelling to various areas of Ultra Space sounds so excitinf :D. This easily beats the Ring mechanic from ORAS and it appears every so encounter is cinematic in some way.

Has anyone not done the Shiny Silvally event and has no interest in doing so. I need to redeem my second code. If anyone is willing to redeem it and trade it for me, I'll happily appreciate it (you can keep the Gold Bottle Cap for your troubles).

Seems this place hasn't been updated on news, so here's some kickers from Serebii, the Pokemon Youtube channels and Dataminer (which will be in spoiler tags)

  • Team Rocket is back as Team Rainbow Rocket for the post-game story being lead by Giovanni who now has a Mewtwo. He is partnered up with all the main villains from previous Pokemon games (Archie and Maxie go back to their R/S appearances instead of their OR/AS appearance and Ghetsis uses his B/W appearance), all of them come from an alternative world where they actually won and plans succeeded. The goal of Team Rainbow Rocket is to conquer all the available worlds using Aether Foundations research of Ultra Space as well as the Ultra Beasts
  • Like in OR/AS the legendary Pokemon are catchable again via the Ultra Wormhole, it is a bit more than back in OR/AS as you actually go to their locations (or similar) and you see their sihoulette. Some are version exclusive though the weirdest is that not only does Regigigas not need the Regis to be captured but it is also version exclusive to Ultra Moon while Heatran is its Ultra Sun counterpart.

    • Necrozma has a third form obtainable by either DM or DW Necrozma holding a new Z-Crystal, it has the ability Neuroforce which increases the power of Super Effective hits, has a higher BST than Arceus and is Psychic/Dragon.
    • DM and DW Necrozma are almost identical to Solgaleo and Lunala with the only exception being signature moves and abiility staying from the original Necrozma
    • UB Adhesive actually has an evolution obtainable by level up while knowing Dragon Pulse, evolution is Poison/Dragon
    • There is a new Mythical Pokemon that is pure Electric, it design is in contention to be one of my favourites :D
    • Move Tutors return and are predicted to be paid in points from the Mantine minigame
    • Almost every Pokemon can now learn Snore thanks to the Move Tutors
    • Kommo-o recieves massive buffs, getting the ability to know Close Combat, Gunk Shot and another Dragon Move I can't remember
    • Blastoise can now learn Signal Beam
    • Decuideye can now learn Phantom Force and Shadow Sneak

Rainbow Rocket? I thought the creativity was already dead on names before this... sheesh.

Will Nyancat be making an appearence then?

I was thinking more of the lines of bringing Rainbow Road to the Pokemon world . Though it's meant to be a symbol of evolution for the organization.

Had a look at the leaked encounters with the leaders. If you don't care for Ghetsis or even like Gen V, first of all I hate you :P :sly:, second you'll feel short changed with your leader in comparison (even Giovanni). All the leaders are like "This is how I succeeded, and I might do the same to this world", Cyrus is a bit different but is mostly the same. Ghetsis is a lot more sinister as it seems he comes from a world not only without the protagonist but also N didn't exist. After beating him even creates some crazy tension and then an epic scene with one of your allies becoming really bad:censored: for some amazing Gen V fan service.

So... is it still the same allies as before? Because Hau reeeeaaaally didn't bring much to the table for me, and Gladion is edgy as heck in a strange way.

For the main story yes however...
You fight Hau for the Champions throne instead of Kukui

In the post-game story, you ally with Lillie, Guzma and Colress.

I want to play a new Pokemon game but I never have the right console to play it. I know my brother has a 3DS but he won't let me use it for my own benefit. Even though he no longer uses it. The only Pokemon game I've played on a Nintendo console is the Diamond and Pearl series (as pretty much everyone has). God, I really want to play USUM instead of wasting my money on stupid cards.

Also, why does Zeroara remind me of Zoroark? It seems to share a similar name and similar features. Or is it just me?

Actually stuck thinking of what to call my character for Ultra Sun. Sun was just too perfect for Gao but going into Sun second time, I have clue

Ever since Diamond/Emerald (played both simultaneously), started doing a timeline of events of my own with my own characters and how they relate to each other, kind of like the Adventures Manga. I already solved the Sun debacle with Sun taking place in a different less canon dimension with Gao heading to main canon dimension in Ultra Sun when I transfer the Pokemon over, in an attempt to send Anabel home, back to her own dimension, but don't know what to name my Ultra Sun protagonist.

Probably gonna run a female character for the first time in a long while on Pokémon Games... Going with Ultra Sun, because Houndour & Houndoom. Definitely going to have an Alolan Ninetails in the squad as well, probably a return for Jolteon.

This may actually be the first game where I actively avoid using the Alolan Starter, although saying that I still have a soft spot for Decidueye. My current playthrough is using a Popplio as my starter.

I stopped playing Sun without even even completing the game. I've gone back to it a couple of times but for some reason I just lack the motivation to make any progress. It's not that I don't enjoy playing it, I just don't want to for some reason.

I've got no inclination to buy the new game either, Ultra Moon if I did, I don't get it. I do enjoy playing them. - I'm lacking the will to.play though. :indiff:

Nice review here though.

There's not much playability after completing the game outside of completing the dex, the odd side-quests and mini-games, or competitive battles. So the feeling you have is kinda how I feel too sometimes.

Still waiting for that breakthrough Pokémon game that plays like the anime portrays; travelling an open world and traversing it. As much as HMs were a wasted slot and I don't want them to return; their core concept of letting you navigate the world and overcome obstacles with YOUR team is something I miss.

Honestly, aside from jumping on for the shiny Silvally event (And doing a dozen soft resets to make it a jolly shiny Silvally), I haven't played this game since completing the dex.

I do have a whole box of shiny level 100 timid Charizards though, 5IV and EV trained, if anyone wants one. Just send me a message.

Currently enjoying my playthrough of Ultra Sun. My team so far:

Gouki, the Terracat
Judy, the Lopunny
Navi, the Sylveon
Sea Unicorn, the Seel.

On the third island now, so far not much drastic changes. There is quite a few nice touches though to separate from the original titles. I really like Dulse and Zossie right now, I wonder how the Ultra Moon players are feeling about their Ultra Recon Squad? So far the biggest shocker for me was when the Wishiwashis were trying to school and become Totem Wishiwashi only for a Totem Araquanid to presumably destroy them and pop up in its place.

The game is harder than the first titles, however I'm half-half on it being fair, Akala Island was pretty fair challenges but when you get to Ula' Ula' the level spikes occur already, forcing me to level grind way earlier than previous titles. Kind of annoying when you don't use the EXP. Share because you like your Pokemon at similar levels. So I'm grinding my Pokemon to Level 33 before I advance through Malie Garden.

I should probably stop worrying about EV training my Rowlet until I've gotten the EV dropping berries (or use my Sun game, teehee) ... because as a result, I really haven't played it at all.

At the moment I have:
Rowlet - Adamant Nature, I lucked out on my first pick, and I tracked it's IVs (28/6/31/25/19/29) over its first 6 Lvls...
Caterpie - Timid Natured, gonna keep that in my team!
Buneary - Has Klutz, so not really going to stay for long.
Inkay - Interesting, might keep it around for a while.
Pikipek - Will probably disregard once Caterpie evolves to Butterfree.

Going off to the Trainer's School. I'm liking the way there is expanded lore that ties the Z-Power and the new characters to the extra story elements. I also like how slightly different the game started, looking forward to more changes.

SPEAKING OF! MY CHARACTER LOOKS COMPLETELY GOOFY, I NEED TO CHANGE MUH CLOTHES!!

The main character in Ultra Sun/Moon is a complete idiot. They have a Switch, yet they don't take it with them on their adventure.
