Pokémon GO: Catch 'Em All in the Real World

One would think from your rants that you're being forced to play the game? Surely that can't be the case. If the game is so terrible then just don't play it if yoiu truly have the option.

Given its popularity it would seem that lots of people don't think it's all that bad.

I'd think that Niantic is generating far more revenue than your excrement is.

How do you know how lucrative my excrement is?

And it's also entirely besides the point. Poorly made or outright broken games make a lot of money all the time. That does not magically excuse them from being bad and/or broken (except of course when looked at from the eyes of the shareholders). If your only arguement in defence of the game is "you aren't forced to play it", then that is a clear sign that something is wrong with the game.

If you make a game build around exploration and collecting certain things, you need to make sure that the player can rely on more than just pure dumb luck.

Bear in mind that the game has been in early development since 2014. So two years, and this is all they could achieve?

Because I don't have a company?
You don't need a company to design a game or an app or anything. ;)
Most apps and mobile games you see out there are designed by a single induvidual or very small groups. Many of them have become some of the most popular and successful apps.

I think it would be fun if 4 pokemon, out of nearly 150, didn't comprise 90 ish percent of the game.
I understand your point. I can also agree with you, to a certain point. You should also remember that in the old Pokemon games, the spawns were quite similar to Pokemon GO.

You would find loads of Pidgey's, Zubat's, Rattata's etc in the tall grass. And the occasional rare and better pocketmonster.

The quotation marks were meant to show that it wasn't actually harder. There is no skill requirements. Leveling up just makes the RNG gods work against you, which is abysmal game design. Outside of using better pokeballs, you have no actual control of how likely it is that you'll capture it.
To be fair, that is true... But at the moment there is no way to lower the health of the pokemon you're facing, or putting it to sleep etc. So you can only rely on Razz Berry, a better pokeball and a good throw to capture it. But the developers also said they will change it as the current state was something like "10% of the finished game".

No, I should not be content with half assed game design. And neither should anyone else.
You are entitled to your opinion, but don't force your opinion on someone else.

If you're not happy with the game and don't enjoy it. Don't play it.

Or better yet, contact the developers with ideas and constructive feedback. Chances are they won't read it and/or do anything about it, but its better than complaining to someone who has no control over the game. :P

Just got this out of my 10k egg.

I am very happy.

Saw an Onix today, which fled from me. Starmie and Vulpix appeared nearby but never encountered them.
Plus side? Sitting in gridlock traffic does not trip the "too fast" sensor. Managed to hatch 3 eggs while waiting.

Can't you just press "I'm a passenger" and get free eggs anyway?

Just found out a peculiar bug on my game. It's allergic to Grimmers, I caught one and every time I open it, the game freezes, and now one appeard and the game froze multiple times

If anyone is still wondering, to hatch eggs you have to walk/drive/roll/whatever you fancy at 12 mph or less.

That's 19.3 km/h or 5.3 m/s or less.

You might get some meters when walking/running/driving at faster speeds, but most likely only a very small percentage.

Did a few test last week:

20km ride - 20km/h - 0km tracked
14km run - 12km/h - 0km tracked
10km run - 10km/h - 4km tracked
14km run - 09km/h - 10km tracked

So I think the maximum speed you can go is around 9km/h

Got 8.1 KM on my 10 KM egg last night when me and some friends were driving around our pokestop farming route... We were never below 15 km/h. (With the "safe margin" in mind on the speedometer). Yeah, we have done it quite a few times. :P

Hey guys. New to the thread. Been playing Pokemon GO for about a month now. Wasn't a whole lot to catch in Italy or Belgium when I was there. Didn't even see a Mr. Mime pop up on the nearby screen. LVL 15 now. Best Wild Pokemon catches so far have been Tauros, Blastoise, Scyther, Lickitung and Primeape. Got 3 10Km eggs right now. Really hoping for a Lapras or a Snorlax. Really don't want a Pinsar.

Anyway, have a good day guys. Time to go out and find more Pokemon!

You don't happen to drive a silver Audi A3 do you?

I really hate how much the Pokemon break free now since the update. Last night I was down to 10 Pokeballs, and wasted all of them trying to catch a damn Pidgeot. I managed to catch it on five out of the ten throws, in which it broke free from every single one.

You can hatch the egg while on traffic jam :P

A 70 CP Weedle escaped my great ball today. I only had two.

So you think it would be more fun finding loads of Charizards, Aerodactyls and Dragonites on every streetcorner? Come on, having loads of the not so sought after pokemons makes you appreciate and enjoy finding that special and rare pokemon, but only every now and then.
Your counter point is rather just as extreme as his, to be honest. No one's asking for the big 3 evolutions around every corner, but there are more types of Pokemon besides the typical 4 that can spawn at a more frequent pace.

Okay, pokemons who are stronger and better the higher trainer level you have, should be easier to catch than the weaker ones???
That's not what he's addressing at all. The issue is that a Trainer at Level 20 encountering the same CP Pokemon a Trainer at Level 5-10 encounters has a significantly harder time catching. There's not much sound reasoning as to why you can catch a bunch of low powered Pidgeys and Caterpies early on with ease, and finding similar ones at Level 20 that easily waste 3-5 Pokeballs.

Magikarps are a big example considering how stupidly easy they were to capture (which was fine given the 400 needed to evolve), and now post-update, they can run away without notice.
You should be happy they even have the "nearby"/"sightings" feature... In the original Pokemon games you actually had to walk around and look for Pokemons in the wild, not just wait for them to pop up on a radar.
(Before all the guides etc).
Except this isn't 1996 when the games first came out. It's 2016. Games change.

Eyyy only just found this thread, started playing about two weeks ago and I'm currently at Level 16.

Haven't got many pokemon to take to the gym currently le sigh but was pretty stoked to catch a Lapras yesterday :)

The point was that finding the more rare and special ones too often will ruin the excitement when you first find one. The ones mentioned was only examples. One example is Snorlax... I'm actually bored of finding him now. Got like 70 Snorlax candy for my 2100 CP beast.

Even an Onix is rare to find (no matter how bad it is in battle). Should keep it that way.

I really don't mind finding loads of Pidgey's, Weedle's, Drowzee's etc... It's just easy XP, Candy and basically free evolves. :D

Also, if you only ever find about 4 or so different regulars, then you don't move around much. ;) And yes, spawns are somewhat random, but big buildings such as malls and factories etc are great for finding rare ones. I'm lucky enough to live on a regular Eevee spawn, so I get loads of Eevee candy all the time. :P

I travel a 25 mile distance to work to find the same 4. If I travel an extra 15 miles north to a friends', same deal. It's not a matter of how much you move around.

Your comment about big buildings and factories is why you find the same 4 everywhere; because what determines finding different Pokemon involves actually going to largely populated blocks in a city. Rural players get the short end of the stick because the game focuses on locations with the highest cellular data to increase spawn rates. Big cities, or major areas such as Santa Monica pier or Central Park have incredibly huge spawn rates. All of this is due to how Ingress was developed & how XM concentration was usually founded by a couple theories involving where the highest data usage was, where the most Ingress players were playing, and even WiFi hot spots. In short, areas with a lot of activity.

So, if you want to find better Pokemon in the game, it's not a case of walking around your area. It's a case of finding out where XM concentrations (which influences Pokemon spawns) are highest in your city, and going there, which turn out to be large cities and parks.

Yesterday I hit level 9! :D

Also, I have enough candys to evolve my Psyduck and my Slowpoke, but I'm afraid they will end up being quite weak, since they are 215 and 202 CP's each. Should I wait a little bit and try to find stronger ones, or should I evolve them?
