First and foremost, quality control. For bug fixes that can't be implemented before disc pressing, PD will be wrapping it up in a day 1 patch.

I really believe that we may never get a full editor - Copying Forza is probably his pet hate.

It's a continuous process. It's very unlikely PD will find every bug or glitch before the game goes gold, so they have to release any new fixes on a patch.

Actually QC is only a continuous process prior to shipping out and so is QA. You don't practice QC after you release a product. That's why I think they're two separate things. Patches are for adding extra to a completed product for various reasons but not a QC measure.

Since we don't know what first day patch is due to no info given, we can only speculate if it is in fact bug fixes or added features that were still being worked on after the game went gold. Since PD usually pushes (Sony rather) the deadline leaving them to update and update, it is probably added features that would be easier sent via patch, then delaying another GT. Also I can't fault them for bugs or glitches though that is what QC testing is for prior to release dates and/or launches and also gleam from the demo runs to help the end production.

I think Kaz should have a GPS tracker implanted in his body so the fans can track his every movement. Now that would be real dedication on his part

I think the game has been ready since the moment they've released the car and feature list. I think he's now busy programming the day one patch.
