How often do you lie?

I lie occasionally, but only to get out of doing something I don't want to do. Which doesn't happen often. Even then usually I end up just saying I can't be bothered which is true... So rarely.

I will give my true thoughts on whatever is in question whether they like it or not.

I know I’ve lied in my time. Nasty habit.

Don’t have anybody really to lie to anymore. Just one parent left. No bosses, either, just clients. I’m usually upfront - they know it. Sometims maybe too upfront. A friend tells me I should learn to tell a ’white’ lie. I’m not sure where that fine line is. But, then, does anyone?

I only tell "white lies". It can come in handy when you don't want to offend someone. I'm meeting a friend at the weekend and told a little white lie that means that I can meet him early and get back home again in time for the F1.

Once we all overslept. The Principal of one of the schools called. I woke, checked the time stunned, saw it was 9.00 A.M.,everyone snoring, saw by the call display who it was, put on my most alert voice, answered the phone, and when the Principal asked why my boys were not still in school, answered: ’Oh! Yeah! They’ll be there in twenty minutes. We had a small domestic crisis.’
I did get them to school in twenty minutes. We had no . . . domestic crises. Just too much fun at night. I felt I lied, though.

I lie all the time, but they are white lies. However, I do tell my friends & coworkers lies all the time to trick them, and they do to me. It's more like a game then though.

Telling real lies, nasty lies, you pretty much learn the consequences while growing up.

Yes, I do lie about stuff. I mean, if you told the truth all the time, then chances are you would probably end up upsetting someone at some point. Occasionally I lie for silly reasons though, and I soon regret doing so. That being said, I only do it sometimes, but not here on GTP (well, not that I can recall).

The short answer is, of course, everybody lies.

I am familiar with that type of lying, a6m5 - that’s more so like a prank, like an ’April Fools’ joke. Or making up a story to trick someone, fully intent on telling them the truth later.

OTOH - Con-men surely lie. Professionally.

Exactly. When they find out the truth, that's when we laugh at him/her.

Also, I have to sugarcoat, exaggerate, or lie on a pretty regular basis for work. Let's say that I worked at McDonalds, but hated their products. I can't tell customers how I hated what was on the menu, or tell them how I prefer Wendy's menu and expect to keep my job. :D *oversimplified to make a point.

Everything I say is a lie. Confused? You should be. :)

I rarely lie but if I'm sitting around with friends I might embellish a story a little to make it more exciting. I may lie to the missus when she asks if I've showered before bed, too, once a day is enough for me unless I've been exercising, why can't she understand that?

W3HS - Maybe her nose doesn’t lie? It just knows.

Circumstances can force people to lie to keep their jobs; this I’ve experienced.

She has the best sense of smell in the world. Honest. It's a pain in the bottom sometimes.

Here's something to think about:
If someone lies, then it is to conceive the truth, so by posting here what they did, they are admitting to it;
Also, how can you trust anyone who replies here, if they are liars to begin with?
:D

Tree'd by me. :sly:

Everything I say is a lie.

People lie more than you think, but it's generally to be socially polite. One example would be you at work/home/school, you pick up the phone and ask someone how they are and they reply 'fine' or 'OK, thanks'. They're probably not as in general there's always something worrying you or you have an illness, etc. but you say 'fine' as you don't generally want to discuss any problems with people and equally they're not that fussed to hear it.

Mrs Shem: "Honey, do you think my belly is getting fatter?"

Me: "Honestly,..... I was scared you were up the duff!"

Mrs AT: "Hun, have you been chatting on that bloody GTP again?"

Me: "Er, no.. just err, looking at porn, honest."

Mrs AT: "That's OK then."

Assistant: "Has Patrick had his test yet, or do you still need to give it to him?"

Me: "Erm......na, but he's good." *goes back to reading the paper*

I must say, given the circumstances of modern day life, almost everything we have been told could potentially be a lie, or the backing of it could be a lie. It's not whether something you are told is a lie, it's whether you choose to believe it. And even if something is so blaitantly a lie, some people still choose to believe it. Why? Only they know.

Funnily enough, I was talking about reality being real or fake with a friend yesterday. Really deep, twisted stuff.

In saying this though, I happen to be friends with someone who is incredibly straight edge. They 'say' that everything they say is the truth, and even though at times I doubt that what they say about themself is true or a lie, they are so up-front and abusive towards other people about their faults or their identity, it's almost stupid to not believe that they are not being truthful.

Unfortunately, they are not very liked in the society they live in and tend to stay in-doors.

I always lie, and a quote from my favourite movie suits this thread too: "Me, I always tell the truth, even when I lie" Scarface.
