If you live in a state that's guaranteed to go red or blue in November, there's no reason not to vote for the candidate you like the best rather than settling for one of the two evils. If you're in a swing state, it's a tougher decision.

Keep in mind that any party that gets 5% of the vote gets federal funding next time. I believe only the Green Party and the Libertarians have any chance of that, as their the only other parties able to get on all or most of the ballots.

Is anybody else as shocked as I am that we basically have to choose between Hillary and Trump in November?

Frankie Boyle (a Scottish comedian) describes it as being on a bus driven by a psychopath that's heading for a cliff, the only consolation being that at any moment a monkey might grab the controls.

Incidentally; Clinton wins in New Jersey.

It's funny how that as soon as Bernie Sanders is out of the running, all the Gen Yers and millennials on Imgur and Reddit suddenly turn their attention to Gary Johnson. As though Johnson hadn't ever even been in the race at all.

It's quite the flip, don't you think? To go from a socialist to a libertarian.

Gary Johnson himself has said that of the major candidates his political views are most in line with Bernie Sanders. Libertarians are about halfway on-board with the liberal agenda, such as gay marriage, legalization of marijuana, free speech, separation of church and state, equal protection, etc. It's generally the social freedoms where libertarians a liberals find common ground, and the financial freedoms where they differ.

Fair comment. I suppose it's interesting to remember that it's only a change in modern meaning which stops libertarians from being called liberals. Liberals, what we now call classical liberals with retrospect, would come pretty close to libertarians as opposed to the social liberals who deviated from them and appropriated the name forever in the eyes of the public.

Not that surprising since alot of Ron Paul Supporters also supported Bernie.

It should also be noted that Gary Johnson supports the enforcement of the 14the Amendment's Equal Protection Clause on private businesses and individuals providing a service. It's why Austin Petersen had so much support in the primary. Johnson doesn't follow the NAP to the fullest extent that many would like.

To be honest, I think that if the LP had a primary election in every state (a very real possibility next time) Petersen would have had a major shot at the nomination. The party went with the guy with the broadest appeal in order to increase the odds of getting into debates and gaining full ballot access.

The latest polls I've seen look like Johnson might make the numbers to get in the debates. If he gets a similar percentage of the vote then the LP will qualify for full ballot access, which includes primaries, in most states.

Obama has officially endorsed Clinton.
...after a cozy chat with Bernie at the White House.

Fair play to Bernie Sanders - he's put himself in a position where the party's top brass must sit up and listen and take him very seriously.... but his campaign is now dead in the water. Trump will win if Bernie runs as an independent, but Bernie is now in a situation where he cannot possibly win unless Clinton is indicted or drops dead. He's right to keep pushing, but all he can hope for now is to influence Clinton's campaign and then drop out gracefully.

It has been a busy week for Drumpf.

Bought the Florida attorney General. http://www.cbsnews.com/news/ap-fla-ag-sought-trump-money-before-spurning-trump-university-case/

Texas AG too, now Governor. http://bigstory.ap.org/article/cd37...s-official-trump-u-probe-dropped-due-politics

Shortchanging 100's of employees and hired contractors of their salary and contracted work. http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/...bills-republican-president-laswuits/85297274/

Surely this is more interesting than pantsuit @ hotmail.com stories.

Perhaps he would be wise to demand a place on the ticket? Hillary wins if she is not indicted, and Bernie wins if she is.

Mic Drop...

EDIT: I will update the OP polling after I return from a family function this afternoon. I am slated to return at 3:30pm my time, and here is the planned update:

- Update the data on the Presidential race (including polling calculating Gary Johnson in the race).
- Update the Generic House Poll.
- Update the President's approval numbers
- Add in a metric for the direction of the country.

Not my business nor my thread, but would it be possible to update the poll for the current running candidates? Just to get a more up to date view.

A mod would have to edit or remove the current poll. I found no way to do it myself after Cruz withdrew.

I asked in the Site support one time for help changing a poll. @TB kinldy fixed it for me. I'm sure a mod would help you, with a little PM to one. But I understand you're busy right now. Just trying to help.

Might be worth saving these results before changing it. Even though some aren't in the running it's interesting to see how much support they got.

Just for the record, there's another third party candidate, Jill Stein of the Green Party, who seems to be attracting a lot of Bernie's supporters. Might be worth adding to the poll.

She doesn't have more ballot access compared to Johnson.

Here is what is at stake for Johnson and the Libertarian party this cycle. If they can get 10% of the vote, the Libertarian Party can get full ballot access in the 2020 Presidential election. This includes the ability to hold state by state primaries, rather than nominate someone at a convention. While I hope that the saying 'the more the merrier' holds water with Ms. Stein, truth is that outside of Ralph Nader, the Green party is a bit weak.
