Well said Pepe!

The main reason COD is more popular and nicer to play even though Battlefield 3 beats it in just about every other area is down to the 60fps of COD over BF3's 30fps.

If BF4 runs at 60fps on PS4 i will guarantee you it will beat COD in sales and be the number 1 shooter.

PD needs to get the framerate at a solid 60 before adding any effects but it looks like they have gone backwards and added more effects to the detriment of framerate and therefore playability/smoothness.

Honestly.....90% of the people who bought CoD or BF didnt/don't give a rats behind about FPS.... Make no mistake, there's a few of you nitpicking graphic tech gamer nerds, but the majority of gamers just want to play....

So I finally got to try the demo last night. It was...all right. The two events with the Leaf and 370Z are nothing to write home about obviously. I don't even remember the last time I played GT5 using my wheel, so I'm unable to say I felt a differene in the physics. The only thing that stood out to me was the body roll. Made driving in cockpit view more fun at least. Once I unlocked the Silverstone time trials, I just cut to the chase and drove a lap on the full Silverstone. But after that, I turned it off. I may go back and gold the Silverstone challenges if I'm in the mood. Needless to say though, this would have been more exciting if we actually had the cars/tracks from the E3 and Silverstone demo. Darn you, GT Academy.

That being said, I'll be getting GT6 still.

The physics are much improved. The gameplay is unchanged. The demo is very light. I'll buy it eventually.

Unlike what seems to be conventional wisdom here at GTP, I believe this is the final product when it comes to game play.

Hopefully some of the most frustrating issues in GT life have been resolved.

The game will have more than 6 AI cars. The game is probably half done by now and many things are still being worked on before it goes gold. Optimization, polishing of game. No more contents then gets added after that. The version we are playing is beta stage.

Seems a strange decision for Sony/Nissan/PD to put a lot of time, resources, money and effort into finding the next racing star on an unfinished beta version don't you think?

No

OK, well I just downloaded it a few hours ago, and off the bat it felt much better than GT5. One of my biggest problems with GT5 was the user interfaces, all of them. They were cluttered, used icons more at home on my computer screen, and you had to zoom in to read anything. If the demo is anything to go by, then navigating GT6 will be a much more pleasant experience.

The racing feels solid. No, that isn't much of a description but if you have played more that GT5 you know what I'm thinking. It isn't a chuckable as GT1 & 2, but it is a better feeling platform than GT5 is, and I think the racing in GT5 is rather good. AI is fishy, but the handling is good.

Now, my knock on the demo, and a few full games as well. Leaderboards can 🤬 off for all I care. Why? Simple, I already know that I'm crap, why do I need the game to point out exactly how many millions of people are better than me. The Demo isn't the only one, Dirt 2 and 3 had them as well, and I hated them. The ones where it's just my friends are......tolerable, but the world rankings just tick me off.

It's a GT academy, of course does it have leaderboards...
That's the whole point of the demo.

Seriously...

When your the flagship title of Playstation with seemingly unlimited development time and a $80M budget at your disposal, people have every right to expect more

Gran Turismo 5 is only 2 points above Shift 2 on Metacritic. And again given Gran Turismo 5's five year development time and $80m budget, its unacceptable

Got to agree I'll say this GT isn't as good as people make it out to be and Shift 2 is also not as bad as they make it out to be.

With that said though concerning GT we've come to expect to be amazed at almost every turn since the beginning every GT game has had something to hang it's hat on wether it be memorable tracks, amount of cars, graphics, etc etc. And with a $80M budget you're right a lot of other racing games don't even get half that.

Should add this poll option.

Doesn't matter I'd buy whatever pd feeds me regardless of the quality.

I voted poor based on this demo.

I voted excellent but I'm thinking on backing down a bit. Not on my purchase of GT6, that was decided from the day I bought a PS3, but on my opinion of the demo.

The demo nails the fundamentals quite nicely. Looks good (I'm not at all bothered by the graphics being the same as GT5), feels GREAT, drives GREAT. Yet, it has a bunch of little flaws that are a sign of PD being PD: Achieve what's challenging, ignore what's easy. They aced the challenge of bringing a more realistic and demanding physics engine, yet they spiked the demo with annoying little faults. If the AI is a placeholder, why showing it then? Why can't I change from MPH (whatever that is) to Km/H? Why can't the game remember my traction control settings? What's with the bugs, the glitches and the random game freezes? As pointed in this forums, the list goes on and on.

PD is the prime representation of a local saying: "He kills the tiger but is scared by the tiger's hide". If only they listened to the constructive criticism of the community and fixed the little niggels that makes their work "almost perfect" instead of "perfect"...

Oh right!

In the world i live in it is regarded as best buisness practice and basically comes down to common sense to give people the best chance and tools for the job.

Must just be me eh?

Yes, seriously. A hot lap of Silverstone, you know the only part they will actually be looking at as is stated on the screen, is one thing. Why is it necessary not only to have them on the sections, but put them in front of you on the info sheet, even if it is the friends only list.

I also stated that other games that do this irritate me as well. The latest NFS games basically make leaderboards impossible to ignore, which I do because leaderboards are, to my mind, useless. You made one, ONE, great lap. Go do it five in a row, then I'll be impressed.

And finally, I know its GT Academy, but it's still a GT6 Demo. Despite what some "fans" demand, leaderboards will kill any enthusiasm I might possibly be able to muster for online, and with my online dealings in the past, it already requires unhealthy amounts of caffeine and being in a "🤬 you" mentality.

Thats weird, leaderboards GIVE me enthusiasm to play.
Trying to beat friends laps, hot lapping, it great and adds a sense of community.

I will also bet my house that the people at the top who "have done ONE great lap" will also thrash you in a five, ten, fifty lap race.

How could someone only be great over 1 lap anyway?
If they post a time like that then they clearly play/know the game a lot, have alien like skills and know every inch of that track and the best possible line!
So they are fantastic on the first lap but as soon as they cross the line for lap 2 they suddenly lose the skill and knowledge to drive?

I consider myself to be very good at GT and win many online races against great drivers and participated in the intercontinental GT500 championship for 3 seasons on here but i cannot touch those guys at the top of the leaderboards.
I really don't know how they do it when i feel like i'm on the limit all the time and then end up 3 or 4 secs off!

I voted poor. The physics are good, drifting the 370 through the corners is a lot of fun. I didn't like the aliasing going on everywhere, the dramatic dropped framerate when I'm close behind my ghost car (bumpercam view), the blue flashes in the smoke, the AI that is dead, the track that is dead (doesn't give me any sensation of actually going fast on a racetrack). I had to push myself not to give up on the whole thing during the first drive in the Leaf - I don't know how they think they will attract new players with this demo. I did one round on Silverstone and then turned off my PS3. Clearly GT in its current form is not for me anymore. The last 8 months I've been playing Forza Horizon, which is much more fun.

That's what happens when you move on to other games, GT feels dead, with GT5 we could at least kind of admire the graphics but this demo is just horrible.

Except they haven't moved on, they're still here posting about it:sly:

I don't know about you but i have grown up with GT.
I first saw GT on dispay in a local HMV store and was blown away by it.
It was different to all other racers/drivers in that it had "normal" everyday cars that our parents would have, not just the same old Ferrari, Lamborghini etc.
This to me is what made GT unique.
Because you started in low powered "normal" cars, when you did finally get a high powered car you could get a better feel and sensation of how much faster, better handling and grippier they were.
It taught driving lines and weight shifting.
It was magic, needless to say i saved up immediately for a PS1 and GT1 and subsequently GT2.

I bought GT3 and PS2 day one and was even more blown away by the perceived realism.
Then came GT4, my favourite, it was unbelievable!
The graphics and realism had got even better, the wealth of content and that opening movie used to make the hairs on my neck stand up.

I first saw GTHD on display in the Sony centre on the new HD TVs and my jaw just about hit the floor.
How could a game look so good?
That was it, saved immediately for PS3 and a HDTV.
I got it in Nov 07 just after price droped to £350.
Downloaded GTHD and was great watching those beautiful cars on my beautiful new PS3 and HDTV.
It was great looking but had a cold, clinical look, but, it was just a tiny demo.

After a bit of a wait GT5p released with more cars & tracks and online play!
Again, it looked great and i had some fun.
The cold, clinical look was still there but hey, its still just a demo and PD are giving interviews, screens and vids that look even better and from what Kaz is saying, GT5 is his "baby"
This game is gonna be awesome!
I join GTPlanet to check for more news everyday and start telling friends to buy a PS3 for GT5" which is going to be the best driving game ever! "

A couple of them wanted 360 but after me going on & on at them how they" will regret it" when they miss out on GT5 they give in and buy PS3:-D

Anyway, getting closer to release (after months of waiting and a delay) and then bad news starts coming of "standard cars" etc, but, no matter, its still GT!

The videos being released, especially my favourite "London Elektricity Ferrari458Italia" look unbelievable!

A release date is anounced and i immediately book 5 days off work! :-)

This next bit says it all:

Nov 23rd 2010 midnight, ASDA, Derby.

After years of waiting it is finally here!
First in the queue to get it, i drive home like i am playing GT!

12.15am Fire up PS3 and GT5, oh no, install!

1am ready to go!

1.45am Going to bed!

I was so underwhelmed after all the promises, the actual driving gameplay looked worse than GT5p (i later found out it used lower quality textures than GT5p, when everyone was expecting even better)
Standards were expected to be GT5p quality and Premium would be even more detailed than them & have intrior views.

No! They are PS2 models! WTF?

Whats with all the bugs?

Whats with these loading times?

Why are parts of the game disjointedand feel half hearted and unfinished?

Thats a course maker! ?

Whats with the shadows?

Why is online so bad?

I feel as though PD and Kaz have lied to me, they let me down.
After all these years waiting and getting hyped they deliver this!

I feel much worse for the two friends i persuaded to get PS3 and GT5, they both hated it, one sold his copy in less than a week and the other still has it but never plays it (he got a 360 and Forza 4).
I feel so guilty.

I feel angry at PD/Kaz, i still belive he cares more about what race he can participate in next more than developing the game.
I still belive he was jetting round the world trying to be a race driver on the back of his Z list celebrity status whilst he should have been concentrating on getting GT5 polished to perfection.

I wrote this so you can understand why i am "moaning"
I am very skeptical of PD now and will not belive a word they say and have no faith in them delivering a consistant performing game with GT6.
I will belive it only when i actually see it running on my PS3, no bullshot PC trailers.

But, GT is part of my life and i want to see it return to form.
I" moan" because i love it, not because i know nothing of GT and have nothing better to do.

I want it to succeed and the only way of doing that is to highlight the bad points, kick up a fuss so it hopefully gets to Kaz and changed.

Just being content and putting up with these things will not make the game better, it will ultimately kill it because it hasn't adapted.

I know i have a stormy relationship with a few of you who think i just like being negative but its nothing personal, i actually like you guys really;-)
You are part of the GT community.

I just wanted you to understand why i am very skeptical of PD.
If GT6 turns out great then hopefully that skepticism will disappear.

After all, i play F1 2012, Dirt, Grid etc and i'm far from pleased with any of them, but i don't go on their websites or fansites complaining because i don't love them like GT.

They can all fail miserably for all i care, but i don't want GT to fail.

I'm willing to bet a lot of the "moaners" have a similar story and i'm pretty sure 90%+ "moan" because they care:-)

Ok i'm done, sorry about all the text! :embarrassed:

pretty much the same as GT5 based off the demo imo.

Other then the body roll which is the only good thing I noticed, the graphical fidelity is worse and the framerate is abysmal in cockpit view which I use.

SO technically, it's worse then GT5 right now. Hopefully they can fix those framrate issues in the final game because that **** is a deal breaker for me. It's nearly unplayable; it completely ruins my experience while playing the game.

phil-75,a great honest post.
It's like all the complaining we direct toward PD is akin to the statement that we only hurt the ones we love.

Well, I downloaded the demo and ran everything available, and was not impressed at all. Since "finishing" GT5, and with about 1200 cars, I only go back now every couple weeks or so for the added Seasonal Events. But I was far from blown away, both by the track (Silverstone) or the cars, as far as realism and detail go. To me, the track looks more CG than those in GT5, and the cars seem to lack detail. I saw nothing that I liked better than GT5. I'll no doubt still buy GT6 when it comes out, but I'm hoping for more than the demo has showed me. At least I'll have all the new races to do again, which is always fun. And Silverstone is nice to have, along with hopefully other new cars and tracks.
