Polyphony Digital partnership with Ayrton Senna Institute announced

You think fans don't come to this site and others to read about GT5? Ever see this number?

Total: 919 (members: 198, guests: 676)

There are nearly 250,000 members here at GTP, and routinely the Guest/Member ratio is 4 or 5 and sometimes higher. Often thousands of people at any one time are looking in on what is written here, and on other sites, to get feedback about the game. Some of them will make their initial decision on whether to buy the game at launch based on what they see and read here.

Global Total as of 19th Oct 2013 (units): 10.54m
250,000 members = 2.3% of 10.54m
1,250,000 guests = 11.9% of 10.54m

Even with those numbers we're talking about less than 12% of the sales. And this is assuming everyone that views this website or is a member feels so strongly about being told something before the game came out that they wouldn't buy the game.
I'm not basing this on any scientific fact but I'm pretty sure most people that come on this site may want to read news on GT6, but I somewhat doubt they depend on it for deciding to buy the game. I think its probably more likely the opposite - that they are looking for information as they are already excited and want to buy the game, at least the majority.

As for Blackberry, I don't really know anything about them or why specifically they've fallen from grace but I'm fairly sure it wasn't because they failed to tell their customers everything about what they were doing before they released new phones or whatever on a forum. Apples and oranges?

GT can't rely on past success but I was never arguing that it can - my point was more about people thinking they are an important part of games development before the game is released. Its highly debatable how good or bad the community can be when they have a large say or a lot of communication with the developers. For some games it can provide valuable feedback that turns a game into a hit but it can also cause games to be excessively delayed or even cancelled altogether (e,g, EA recently cancelling Command & Conquer). Most of the time the developer is forced to hold back some information for a variety of reasons and this causes a friction with the community.

As someone already said, perhaps the developers should then only release "accurate" statements..but this not an easy thing and this brings us back to why we have developers telling us very little and mainly running it through marketing first.

Just give it up. Your wall of text isnt worth a reply. Youve taken your stance, we get it. Save yourself the time by not replying to me, and I won't bother trying to convince you why making assumptions about how PD operates is also a waste of time. Instead of trying to find a meaningless trend that doesn't exist, or try to back track on your non-facts, you could look for marketing that they have done and are doing? Like this promotion in Canada where guessing the correct cars could win you a car- http://unlockgreatness.ca/ Darn that PD/Sony! They aren't doing anything to push this game!

Give what up exactly, you can't answer my questions as asked, and what stance do I have? That I wanted more info from PD regarding GT6 which we now somewhat have. Also no one is making assumptions I've laid out why it is resonable to believe, and you have yet to make a rebuttal of any significance to it being wrong. Also if there isn't a trend then why do others on this thread and other threads do the same, and I don't see you giving them crap. How is a promotion in a single region a means of pushing a game overall, also giving a game away for free due to a guesstimate is no where near the same as giving detailed insight and input on what we may expect to see.

I again ask you to answer the questions I've posed here (only a couple) and from my previous points. Trying to cast stones and make me look silly because you say I look silly isn't very productive into proving how I'm wrong.
