POLYPHONY Formula Gran Turismo - hard tires?

Hey guys!

I just picked up the POLYPHONY Formula Gran Turismo race car after running the Nurnburgring 24h enduro, and man what a sweet ride! My only complaint is that it comes stock with medium racing tires, which I find I'm shredding on a 10-lap race on Tokyo 246. I'd rather not go in for a pit stop if I can help it, but if I don't I find I'm sliding more than driving by lap 8-9.

Is there any way I can put hard or super-hard tires on this bad boy? Or am I stuck with the mediums?

Thanks!
Mike

PS I did a search for "POLYPHONY Formula Gran Turismo hard tires" and it didn't turn anything up...

You cannot equip it with tuning parts, there is no manufacturer for it in GT mode. (PD)

However, I am not sure in arcade mode.

Yeah, just like the "F1-almost" cars in GT3, you can't do much of anything to it. Your best bet is to focus on driving very smoothly in order to extend your tire life. You'll have the added bonus that your lap times will prbably drop a bit, too.

One thing you can try is to dial out some of the toe. Massive toe out is what makes the cars quick to rotate in the corners, but it also wears the rears like a bear.

Good luck, and welcom to GTP!

definitely true

in arcade mode you can change different tires
change HP and change weight
but only in "race mode", and "time trial"
not in 2 player split screen

Ooh thanks for the tip, and for the welcome, Duke!

I've already tried taking better lines into the corners, which has cut down on the skidding thus extending tire life, so thats been good. That car is so light though, every now and then it just "goes out from under me" :)

Just won race 2 of the GTWC - hoping this car will get me all the way through! My new strategy is to use this car to get way far ahead of the competition early on so I can make a quick pit stop to change the tires and still win. Hopefully it works!

i just find that incredibly stupid that u cant chnage anything on the f1 car....and it has a low top speed
My suggestion would be to play Formula 1: Championship Edition. Absolutely amazing F1 sim, and offers a lot of features I hope to see in GT5. 👍

At the very least, it will allow you to use many different type of tyres, including wet and intermediates. You also can do a lot more complex set-ups, tuning, and race conditions then what you can do with the FGT car in GT4.

If I sound over enthusiastic it is because this game is so impressive, and that no other F1 game has impressed me as much as this one. I know it will keep me busy until PD eventually releases GT5. :)

Trust me dude, Its not as bad as it seems. Learn how to tune it and then work on your extremly high toe setting that should fix your wear problem. Worked for me. 👍
