I always liked the 997 Sport Classic. They're still a good investment for a 911 owner that doesn't want the high performance of the GTs. Only made 250 of them, manual only (tmk), nicely tailored so it wasn't over the top. Retailed around $200,000, used market values are around double that now-a-days thanks to maybe, half-a-dozen or little more for sale at any given time.

My local Porsche garage had a 997 Sport classic for sale recently, I think they were asking £320k. I know they're a nice balance and look great, but it does seem like a lot to me when for that money you could get a 997 GT3 and a 997 Turbo.

No doubt there, but those models aren’t holding value like the Sport Classic thanks to a higher production volume. For the time being at least. I think the GT3s will start to climb, but I’m not sure they’ll hit SC levels. I don’t know how long it will take for a 997 Turbo to start climbing like the pre-996 Turbos, if they ever do.

SC’s an easier car to shop for too; they’re all the same. :P

Invitation only. You’d need to be a very good customer to get one of these.
No problem, I'm not interested in such an ugly 911 anyway. The Sport Classic on the other hand ............. . I hope this one is available for everyone.

I can't find any information about the 991 Sport Classic.

I was looking for the 991 Sport Classic, not the new 991.2 Sport Classic.
There isn't one just like there isn't a 991 Speedster even though there are photoshops of a red one that debuted alongside the green Sport Classic pictures.

This is coming from a trusted source who recently gave details on the Speedster as well before its debut.

This is not the Sport Classic which is coming in the summer of 2018.

I remember, there was a 991, 911 50 year version, not a Sport Classic.

There are 2 997.2 Sports Classic for sale in Brussel for €309,000 and €359,000. He can ask all he wants but I doubt he will sell that Porsche for that amount of money.

€309,000

€359,000

Will the Sport Classic be available on invitation only?

I dunno, like I said above my local Porsche garage was asking £320k and I assume they got something close to that. Sport Classics go for crazy money.

997 SC's are nice enough, but an investment buy only at that money - the 4.0rs and GT2RS are similar money and for me, are much more desirable within the 997 range.

I am not a fan of the 997 SC, don't like the dull color and the modern Fuchs look silly to me. I’m sure it’s a great car to drive and all, but you damn well know they are just sitting around collecting dust. For a fraction of the price I’d rather buy a few 997 GT3s (no RS).

I agree that I'd rather have a 4.0 RS, but last time I saw the prices on them they were £500-600k which is nearly double 997SC money!

Buying a Porsche as an investment is a risky thing to do and I'm not sure if it is wise to do so. But I do like the idea of buying a Porsche as an investment, sell it later on and get a new simpler model instead.

Bad idea or not? :P

I'd wager it's really only risky if it's something you can't afford to lose money over in the long run. Otherwise, you could probably snatch a 996/997 car that's still relatively unused and hold on to it for 5 years; that should be enough time to see if either gen. has made a steady climb in value or if they've settled.

Comparing the values gets a bit weird. If you want a mint condition 4.0, it seems you'll pay out the nose for it compared to a mint SC. However, 4.0 values seem to take a decent hit once they've been used enough. You've got a SC with 12,000km that's holding a 20-30,000+ GBP value over similar mileage 4.0s. There's another SC with near 23,000km on it that's holding better value than a similar 4.0 as well, but there is also bottom-market SC selling for 16,000GBP less equally.
4.0s:
595,000GBP - 700km
470,000GBP - 3,300km

345,000GBP - 28,600km
330,000GBP - 1500km

317,000GBP - 6,700km - JZM car
315,000GBP - 16,100km
306,000GBP - 12,000km
287,000GBP - 24,000km

SCs:
358,000GBP - 500km
335,000GBP - 12,300km
314,000GBP - 22,700km
271,000GBP - 25,000km

I think the 345K & 330K 4.0s are priced outside of where they should be, personally. The 1,500km car is probably right where it should be & upper 2 are way over-valued, or it's a steal compared to the others. I think the 28,600km car is well over market unless the Belgium market creates such a significant difference in price.

GT3 touring is super cheap compared to uk prices... £161k. They are c.£250k on the open market in the uk.

Crayon wouldn’t be my colour choice, but I’d take to save 100k.
Don't hesitate and buy it. Even in Crayon, this is a gorgeous car. But it is LHD.

Is that anywhere near Malaga? I can think of some great roads there for it.

Yes. It’s on Los Arqueros, just above San Pedro on the Rhonda road. Excellent road, even in a rental car :D

Sell the house, if you really have one in Spain, and buy a Porsche you really want. So much more fun.

Need somewhere to retire to in 5-7 years time!!

Can't live in a car.

Ya'll talking about owning summer homes in Spain and buying fancy 911s and here I am saving up for a pre-facelift 996 Carrera. Gotta start somewhere.
At least you start. Me on the other hand, am all talk and no action.

That was the road I had in mind. The Alhaurin La Grande to Mijas would be another. Last enjoyed in a Panda 1.2!

I already own a pre facelift 996. The reason I don’t have a more recent 911 is the retirement place!

Have you tried? I hear the Sport Turismo is quite roomy.

They are massive. Unfortunatrly, they lack some essentials... like a bathroom and a kitchen.
