Porsche is Giving the 919 a Victory Tour (And Looking to Shatter Lap Records)

No. I mean 2018 F1 spec. They've been faster at Bahrain and Melbourne easily. 8 tenths would probably be beaten in Q1.

If it's dry and warm I would imagine they'd smash that time, with the constant development of the cars. But I think they've said they were aiming for a 1:36.xxx?

That'd put it well beyond the current crop of F1 cars and probably beyond any F1 car for our life times, unless something monumental happens with safety technology

They shot the video a long time ago, you can tell from the different bodywork. Here's a picture of a behind the scenes by JF Musial who was the director for the video.

I am calling fake on this.

There's no gridlock traffic.

Jokes aside, those are cool photos.

Personally I think it looked better with the blacked out headlights. Much more aggressive, and plus headlights are just extra weight! :D

Comparing these shots with the side-by-side illustrations at the top of this page, although it say's 'tribute' on the fin - it looks to be the regular 919 race car (with a raised ride height).

Some other key differences - The front end on the tribute is much more streamlined, and the rear wing actually extends beyond the bodywork, something that wasn't allowed in WEC.

Yeah, that's what i was pointing out 👍

Fritz Enzinger, Vice President LMP1, comments on the appearance in front of 200,000 thousand people: “The get-together of those two extremely successful racing cars produced remarkable pictures.” Enzinger explains: The initial idea of a farewell tour with the Porsche 919 Hybrid came up last summer, soon after the decision was made to pull out of the FIA World Endurance Championship. First we spoke about exhibitions and demo runs. But then inside the team the idea evolved to combine the tour with a try of a lap record to show the car’s true potential. This is how we began to unchain the 919 from a few restrictions that came from the regulations. Of course we needed financial backing for the ‘919 Tribute Tour’ and the Evo development. Without our partners, we wouldn’t have managed this. Therefore, and also on behalf of the fans, I really want to thank them very much.”

I was listening to the German Livestream and at one point they interviewed Hans Joachim Stuck. He said that the 919 can generate a combined power of 2200 PS for short periods of time.
That's just crazy

Get ready for an amazing lap time. I'm predicting we'll under the 6 minute mark.

Can they go sub 5:30?

I have an issue with this 919 EVO breaking the legendary record of the Nurburgring...
Bellof's record was done with a race car (in qualifying if I'm not mistaken). It was an homologated car.
Breaking it with a car that follows no regulation feels like cheating and somehow insulting bellof's achievement.

Porsche 919 hybrid (WEC) is an extrordinary race car, but the EVO version feels wrong somehow.

They should have attacked the record with the WEC 919 hybrid, that would have ben more fair.

my two cents

And, for that reason, it won't break any records - and Bellof's will stand for some considerable time.

No Nordschleife lap is officially timed. There's no timing body and no official records. Bellof's was because it was during an actual race, but no race now uses the north loop alone. The nearest you can get to official timing is sport auto's supertest, and that only uses vehicles eligible (production road cars sold in the German market, in production form). Nothing any manufacturer does at the Nordschleife is official, anywhere. It's all just wang-waving - I go into it in more depth here:

Makes me wonder, F1 teams can use cars that are 2+ years old for demo runs (and testing *cough*Stroll*cough*), could they use 2017 Pirelli mules with some side skirts thrown on for some record breaking laps?

Sooner or later the record will fall, if anyone should break the record its Porsche.

When someone takes away the record Porsche can run the 919 and bring it back home, until then.. please let it rest with Stefan.

And while @Famine has a excellent point, no one in the world really cares about technicalities and official timings, if someone does a 5 minute lap it will be the lap that beat Stefan.

Beloff’s lap will always remain THE ONE as far as I’m concerned.
