I've been talking to someone on the licenscing/marketing side of cars/games.

EA has the rights to Porsches, however what they do is sub-licensce Porsches to other games for a fee, and as such you see Porsches in non-EA games.

Quickly on a vaguely linked note (not really) is Maserati featured in either Forza or Gran Turismo?

There are Maserati cars in both GT 5 and Forza 3.

The Spyder is a maybe for GT 5, The Maserati GranTurismo and the Maserati MC12 Corsa are confirmed to be in Forza 3.

Obviously that is not a completely listing, only what is known so far.

Yes. But if so, why do Porsche cars appear in games that are not from EA?

Why don't they block the Porsche license from Forza then?:ouch:

You guys are still not getting it.

If EA is singling out the GT series, that means only they specifically can't get the license, because the contract would say "Porsche is not to appear in GT", which conversely means everybody else who is not PD, can.

It's what I've suspected all along.

Ah, so you mean the contract between Porsche and EA doesn't forbid all (temporary) cooperations with other game manufacturers, rather than just single out specific ones like Polyphony Digital. Well, that's a possibility. We'll see what Porsche has to say to that, given they respond.

Or it could be that EA don't want to hand over rights to the biggest competitor in the gaming world.

GT does have competition. :dunce:

Anyone who genuinely believes that they dont is either exceptionally niave, or just not intelligent.

Yeah, but the competition is Forza.

NFS never competed with GT for sales, not during the cop chasing/underground days. Different market.

With Shift? maybe, but Shift is really a prologue in terms of content (less than 20 tracks, less than 80 cars).

If they are blocking the competition they would have to do this to Forza too. Makes no sense to block one competitor and by doing that, help the other competitor.

So let's say the logic is: "if you want to drive a Porsche, buy our game, because GT doesn't have". Well, this is a moot point because the answer will be: "so i have to buy Forza instead, since GT doesn't have Porsches".

Makes no sense. To me it still makes more sense the fact that Porsche is still mad at PD for shortcutting them and including RUF on GT2. It's crazy, but less crazy than EA blocking PD and favouring Microsoft.

I would like to see them going after Dauer and Gemballa. I want to race some racing spec Porsches, and i can't do that with the current RUF's. All i want is a 911 GT2 and i'll be fine. If they can get that through Gemballa, i'm very happy.:)

1st, for the general public/the mass audience/the ones with all the money, anything remotely linked to racing cars is competition to GT. When daddy goes to buy his son a PS3 do you think he knows the difference between GT and shift??

2nd, theres a good chance Microsoft specifically made a deal to get Porsche into Forza for a large sum of money, on the agreement that GT wont have it. For someone whos a porsche fan, it could mean the difference between buying a PS3 or an 360. Your missing the larger picture.

3rd, EA help Microsoft/Forza, Microsoft help EA. Its a game of who's in bed with who. It wouldnt be a first time a cross-platform games publisher has favoured a specific console over another.

The problem with this argument is, Forza does not exist...

Not during the time when this contract was created.

Think for a second: What was the biggest racing franchise at the time Gran Turismo was created? Hmmm? 💡

How do you post in HD format? 👍

You put "HD" after "Youtube" in the tags and it'll give you that full HD screen. Keep in mind, this will only work with videos that are available in HD.

At 0.09,I believe this is a RUF on the PSP?

I'm glad we know that RUF will be in the game as a Porsche look-alike, but that Yellowbird is, well, I'll be honest, one of the ugliest cars I've seen, especially to be a Porsche-made shell (this is true for this particular car, right?). But it's the performance that matters, right?

Yellowbird is the key RWD car for me. Very oversteery and live car weighting just over 1100 kg, with carbon body panels in year 1987 and insane turbocharged 470 HP engine, which overdone all Ferraris and Lambos in its time. Only true master of driving can do spirited lap with it on Nordschleife and without any mistake.
