Guess who got their car back from having new rear arches fitted? :)

Yeah! I think I'm almost as excited about it as you are.

Did you keep the old plates or did they give you new ones?

Just got new tags for the old plates, good thing because I wasn't looking forward to paying for new ones on top of everything else. Passed emissions with no problems, hoping the silver one will as well.

Dirt is like mother nature's war paint for fourbies ;) This was mine:

That Suzuki is awesome. My dad had one but was a flat deck. Same colour, same wheels but had bull bars on the front and sides.

So I recently got a GoPro Hero 3 with some of the money I got for my birthday. Ended up taking it for a short test drive the other day:

I didn't really put my foot in it much because I had a friend and pizza in the car. And the roads I was on where there weren't traffic had a pretty high risk of deer. I need to find somewhere where I can really push it safely...that suction cup is a monster, though.

:-) So thanks to GT, and the love it has instilled in me for old cars, I went ahead and hooked up to this baby:

It is a 1976 model and is in fantastic condition. It has done 49K kilometers ...or so it says on the clock anyway. The engine has been recently rebuilt and it runs faultlessly and starts first time even in the cold that we currently have. For around 2500 USD I reckon I scored ...the guy actually wanted 3500!

So, when I got it I knew exactly what my plan was and it is entirely modeled on this car:

The idea is to make it as much as possible into a gymkhana attack car without sacrificing any of the cars cosmetics. Unfortunately the wheels will have to go in favour of wider 15" items but other than that and a slightly lower ride height, it will look box stock when I am done. Suspension wise I am happy in terms of dampening but something will have to be done about the stock roll bars ...the car feels like it might roll over when you unexpectedly attack a corner too hard. The stock steering wheel that has come with the car also has a broken middle section and needs replacement. I want to replace that, if possible, with a slightly smaller diameter VW unit ...for a quick steering feel.

The gearbox is great but is long throw ...getting a short throw system with classic looks would be great but is not top of the list. As for the engine ...I want to do as little as possible. My intent is to build an old-school gymkhana monster and not a straight line tar burner.

But right now the first priority is the brakes ...the front drums MUST go! I will be getting a bolt-on disc based setup ASAP. With this mod alone the car will be good to go as a daily driver. I will then keep it like this for at least 6 months before the slight transformation to grip monster begins.

I am excited ...good times lie ahead! "Two-hundred and forty horsepower isn't enough to move me anymore. Enough to move my body, yes, but not my soul."

My car since January 2011 and I absolutely love it.

Some specs, it's from 2005 and it is powered by a 1461cc diesel engine (89ci for you :P) and it makes 65bhp at 4000rpm.

It sounds low, but the car is light (around 1000kg/2204lb) and it is a blast to drive. It tops around 100mph, but in the corners it's really surprising. The handling and the comfort it's really, really good. Right now, it has 68000mi and it is still going strong.

That Beetle looks incredible. From what I can see, the paintwork looks almost immaculate. The wheels are pretty nice too. I'm glad to see you went with one of, if not, the best classic cars ever made. That sure is one clean 1303 you got there. Cheers.

Thank you! The wheels need some sandblasting and restoring. While that is being done I am going to get an old school set of wheels. I will then shelve/store the original wheels for when the car needs to be "dressed up" :-).

Here are the new wheels. They are on order and should be arriving soon:

Can't wait!

I've used that brand of rolling papers before, not bad, but sometimes the glue didn't always cooperate.

Yeah those new diesel's are really good.!! I have driven a base model VW golf diesel[2012 model] pretty quick for a diesel:tup:

My little 'project', that I need to make a full thread for but am too lazy to :guilty:

It started a lot worse, i.e. I basically bought it as a shell :scared:, lol.
