Decided to take a photo of all of my friends hanging out at the drift event whilst I was on track doing photos. And yes, the Sportcross was squeezed in there.

Also spent the weekend camping with my friends at the track. So it's absolutely filthy now. :ouch:

I feel bad for the guy on the back of the Cherokee. Then again, that's something I'd do.

Just came back from an HPDE event at Watkins Glen. During the track walk yesterday evening I was trying to find pieces of racing car from last weekend's United Sports Car / Continental Tire series carnage. Lots of shards and tons of rubber, but nothing discernible as a car part.

These aren't 'my' pictures so they're live linked with watermark.

Just like Minty, it will be time for a wax soon. After four sessions, the front of the car was plastered in a mixture of hot rubber and dead inspects. :yuck:

Where in NY are you?

It's not too bad. I'm about 4 hours to Watkins Glen, 2 hours to Lime Rock and 2 & 1/2 hours to NJMSP. VIR is 7+ hours--that was a hike. But worth it. Upstate NY is still close enough that I'll just keep my 200 UTQG tires mounted. They're street legal but I'm trying to extend their life. And I'm too lazy to bring a pump jack and ramps and swap out my stock wheels/tires for just one day.

There's a lot to love about Watkins Glen. I was a bit disappointed that the boot was closed due to repaving but at least I had a chance to drive the short course and it was a new experience--much faster and more frenetic than the full course. I still prefer the full course but this configuration was a lot more fun than I thought it would be. And as an added boon, with the wine festival coming up this weekend, the garage area was closed so all of our tech sessions were in the new media center. The track made a big deal that they didn't want anybody eating or drinking inside.

A few quick laps:

The first time I approached the esses my jaw dropped. It's something to see it on TV but a whole nother experience in person.

:D It's so true. Looking at it on TV just doesn't do it justice. You completely lose the sense of perspective. In fact, even when you're in the car driving up through there, you're concentrating so hard on your line, that you just don't sense the elevation change that prominently (although you obviously feel the compression). But as a spectator or especially while doing a track walk, looking down into T2, it's massive.

(Looking back to T2)

(Looking forward, uphill toward the bus stop chicane)

Even these pictures don't quite give you the proper perspective. It's something you have to experience in person. What's also surprising is how steeply downhill the run is from just before T1, around the corner and then down into T2. It really catches you a bit off guard the first time, realizing you're braking hard, from the 2nd fastest spot on the track and the road is going downhill. And while there is a lot of run off, you also realize that it slopes away from the track.

Anyway, sorry for the O/T discussion. :embarrassed:

Here's one more from the paddock, at the end of the day as people were clearing out. The guy in the BRZ stayed an extra day and I heard from him last night that he beat my FL by about 0.5. 👍 (🤬) :sly:

I have to say, it makes me smile every time there's a article about FT86 twins online. Hundreds of people come out of the woodwork just to post "If it only had a turbo" or "hah, a mini van is faster".:sly: OK sure. But mount a set of sticky tires, change your brake pads and suddenly things change. The car transforms before your eyes into this amazing track machine: stable, well balanced, light footed and extremely capable. Yes, compared to a lot of modern cars it's under powered. And it's very clear on the uphill run from the Esses up to the Bus Stop that Vipers and Corvettes and Mustangs and Porsches and (...and...and...and, etc) start reeling you in. And disturbingly quickly. But the fun is all in the corners anyway.

EDIT: Maybe this will help: :D

A little update for those who don't follow my thread..

Today was a productive day - got my spacers fitted and also fitted the M Performance front grills

Gave it a wash too

and one of the Rear Camera and 'M View' on HUD

The rear end looks really beefy now

I think pushing the wheels out has accentuated the need for a drop though, although I'll judge that after next weekend when the rest of the M Performance kit goes on.

Yeah... lower it. You got spacers, lower it. It'll set it right.
