There is an award in the license races that is somewhat of a consolation pass. I've never personally gotten it, but supposedly if you come extremely close to getting a bronze a few times it will give you that and it counts as a pass.

It's called the "Kid's Prize," I've gotten one. (Hey, it was on the S license!)

That mark is called Sho-shin-sha in Japan. A driver must have that on their car for one year from the time they are first issued their license.

It is basically a mark warning other drivers that "this driver is new and less experienced".

There is also a similar mark but for old aged drivers. A kind warning for other drivers that I wish we had here in the US.

Oddities that I've noticed which haven't been noted by others:

1. AI AMG cars spinning out without fail on first corner of Apricot Hill.
2. I believe it's the Audi S4...race paint graphics are messed up.
3. 1996 Nissan 240SX fastback is the same lable for two different 180SX models. The one that is basically the same style as the US 1991-1993 240SX fastback should be labled as a 1990 model as that was the first year for this car in Japan...or a 1991 model if they want to be true to the US version, despite the fact that is has the SR20DE(T) rather than the KA24DE.
4. Wheels can not be changed on any BMW. I hate that!
5. I'm not sure, but I believe they got the years mixed up on the AE86 Levin/Trueno. I think the 1983 and 1985 are reversed.
6. NA tuning is not available on NA S13 Silvia 2000cc, 240SX(180SX) fastback Type-S, S14 Q's version (maybe not mistake, but bad decision on the part of game makers)
7. When racing any long endurance race, the sound will cut off gradually. Sometimes I lose engine sounds, and other times I lose tire screeching sounds, the last sound to go is usually the sound made when going over berms.

If I think of any more, I'll post again.

Well, in respect to #6, if you look closely, you'll find that more or less only the American cars have NA Tuning as an option.

Not true at all, I think.

There are sooo many cars that I'm not going to list them all. In fact, I'll only list the Japanese names that I can think of...
Mazda:
Miata/Roadster,

Nissan:
S13 Silvia Q's 1800, Pulsar Serie, Sunny Primera, Skyline GTS25 TypeS, any NA 300ZX, KPGC10 GT-R, Datsun S30 240Z

Every Honda/Acura except the Zturbo (never tried),

Mitsubishi:
FTO, Mirage, 3000GT SL

Toyota/Lexus:
Altezza/IS, '99 Celica, '96/'97 Celica SSII, '91 Celica GT-R, '84 Celica, any Tourer-S, any Corolla Levin/Sprinter Trueno, MR2 G-limited, MR-S, any NA Supra, '68 2000GT, '82 Starlet,

Europe has a lot of them. All BMWs, some Audis, Alfa Romeo, Lotus, etc...

I actually prefer normally aspirated power, myself.

NTSC version, the power charts have a bad torque measurement conversion. The numbers say my Tigra has 240 HP and 27.2 kg/m torque. On the graph, the curve reads 240 HP and 27.2 ft-lbs. torque. I can turn a wrench harder than that engine!

In Laguna Seca first curve, if you hit at high speed (with GT cars, I do it with the Unisia) in the place where tyre barriers join the wall, going straight without brake, at that exact point, you'll exit the course and go travel for there. You'll see the landscape, but not the ground or anything else. The red spot that are you will exit too the course and go for all the tv screen with you. If you decide to return to the circuit, you'll appear flying very fast and falling heavily on the asphalt.
It's nice to see, try it.

Someone mentioned the Jetliner Silver Metallic Toyota Starlet Turbo S that is neither Silver nor turbo. Here's the evidence...

i read somewhere that its called a kiddie cup. its if ur like .1 seconds past teh bronze.

Here's one nobody's seemed to notice: i was doing the Beelte Challenge just now and it gave me Autumn Ring (non-reversed). As i raced the track, something seemed funny. The second set of bleachers (on the right hand side about halfway thru the course) was missing. And then as i climbed the 270° hill, a couple of the weird-looking mountain things looked as tho they'd had their heads chopped in half! Finally, the last set of grandstands on the left hand side at the top of the hill was also missing but the grandstands by the start/finish line was there. Come and think of it, i think i've seen this happen before.

Oh, one more thing: the fastest lap record that i had set on the Arcade disc was totally missing, too!

This topic seems to have quite a lot of responses :) I was wondering if someone would kindly give a small summary for me so I wouldn't have to read page after page.

Please :)

In some races, I noticed the sound kind of skipping and being distorted during some long races. When I got a second copy of GT2, I bought the Greatest Hits version. I don't know if this newer version just kept skipping like that, or my PS2 was rather rough playing it.

It's another 'feature' of GT2.

I have a theory that the folks at Poly who made GT2 knew about the sound dropouts and didn't have a quick solution for it, and this is why most of the events in the game are no more than glorified spot races! The World Cup, GT300 & GT500 all are plagued by the sound problem, but not the 2 and 3 lap races in the rest of the game.

That's a good theory and could well be correct. Maybe that's why the AI is so crap as well, they are expecting it to be a longer race and therefore are waiting for a few laps before driving to their full extent, by which time the race is over anyway.

Here's another one: they never translated metric to English, which means that for most of us in England and America the spring rates are way off! For instance: the Honda Beat version F has spring rates of 1.7/pounds per inch up front and 2.0 in the rear. This is impossible! If this were true, the car wouldn't be able to move cuz it would have no ground clearance (or barely any) and the tires would be rubbing up into their wheel wells. The dude or gal in charge of converting metric only completed half their job. 1.7 kg/mm front and 2.0 rear are the correct figures.

Oddly, they never attempted to convert torque from metric to standard when you look at your car's engine graph, but they did convert the dealer's quoted torque.

I have noticed too that the sound will skip and go all scratchy on the game once you have been playing it for a while. A couple of times I have been playing the game for a while and then done the Apricot Hill Enduro, and the sound of the car has sometimes disappeared completely. Also things like the turbo whistle have disappeared before all of the sound was gone.
