Wow just read through this whole thread...amazing setups....I'm trying to decide what to do for my cockpit...now I have too many ideas...lol

Hi guys, I'm new here and to GT, bought it a week ago...

My future father-in-law and I built a racing setup (he built one a few years ago), thought I'd share. The only thing we paid for was the paint and some bolts, the rest he had lying around his building. (Did the welding myself -- very proud :P)

This rust covered all the metal and I had to grind it all off to the gray:

Wheel mount welded:

Seat mount piece (still more grinding to do):

Jump ahead a bit here, but it's done!:

Seat from an old VW Beetle Dune buggy from the 70's, metal painted metallic blue:

Full view. We went waaay lighter with my build, very simple but just as effective ;)

Loved some of these on here, that actual dash was awesome...

Temporary man cave until I leave my girlfriend and can properly set things up in my dream cave! lol...

Also will be upgrading to Fanatec wheel/clubsport peddles very soon! I also took my PS3 out of the living room and put it in my man cave. So I am running GT5 on this setup as well. Just started with that sim in fact. I primarily use my PC for sim racing.

Fanatec PWTS with CSP
Rennsport Stand (V1 I think)
Celica Seat on wooden base

Simple and mobile!

beautiful setup, man, especially those speakers, what speakers are those? ALmost looked like Bowers and Wilkins at first, and they have passive radiators? Info please.\ :D

so my GT3rs CS arrived on thursday, and this would be my first steering wheel for a while so I have nothing to mount it to...

So for your enjoyment, my "there I fixed it" approach in the living room. i mainly play GT5 in my bedroom so I'm trying to figure some kind of custom swinging arm rig to attach to the chair by the base. My concern is that the steering wheel be too powerful and end up twisting itself out of position...

Winter months just became more bearable. :-)

Only 3 or so more months left til sportbike riding/ track day weather comes back....at least this way I won't be counting the days, lol. I've only played racing games with controllers....so the wheel/pedals/shifter thing is going to be a new experience.

They are Bowers and Wilkins DM3000, old but still sound great!

I found this information on them:
"The DM ("Digital Monitor") 3000 has a electronic time delay tweeter, and the triangle shaped cabinet back is designed to reduce internal standing waves. There are 3 drivers: tweeter, 2 kevlar midrange - bass, and a passive bass radiator. They were only made by B&W for two years, 1985 and 1986. "

I re-arranged my room and here's how it looks now (still need to route cables)

My bob earl racing setup will look pretty ridiculous once I get that T500 mounted. I think a little modification and chassis reinforcement will be in order. haha.

I figured I'd give you guys the peak at my new setup... of course it's still under construction though...

I think your room could use a vast amount of acoustic treatment. Diffusers, Bass traps (ALOT), and decent amount of foam insulation to dead things up a bit. Yikes! check out GIK acoustics. They are excellent to work with, and will work with your personal room size, preferences, and budget. 600$ and up will do WONDERS for the sound in that room. perhaps you DO have some treatment in there, but I cant see from the pics.
Cheers!
AMAZING setup otherwise.

^Thanks for the tips and looking!

The entire back black wall there is 1" OC703 and in the corners floor to ceiling are triangular bass traps.

I decided not to use the acoustical treatment in the rest of the room for now, but I might add to it later.

:D

Ah! Well done. I kinda figured there would be some treatment in there. handling low end is always most important, so your priorities were in the right place. high / mid freq diffusers can be purchased later on. most of the time you can just buy a big book shelf for the rear and save a few hundred from that alone. = )

-its too bad the room I play GT5 in isn't treated, just the project studio in the next room.

/\ Any info for the DIY type out there. Something I have wondered about adding to my theater, game room.

My man cave. Specs are: Fat boy PS3 w/ modded 320gb HD, GT5, 55" Vizio vxt553sv true LED backlit TV, Kef 5.1 surround w/ 200w sub-woofer and Yamaha receiver, Logitech G27 steering wheel w/ a Playseat evo cockpit....

If you're referring to a cockpit setup, the best advise would be to stop and ask yourself if a project like that would be something you would ENJOY Do you like building stuff? The reward for a DIY setup is the fact that its customized exactly to your taste. Also ask yourself if its something you would actually NEED to do. For example, you might have very limited space, so you want to make your cockpit a 2 piece rig so you can stow it when you're done racing. -Or the opposite. You might have an entire garage or billiard / game room that you could build a racing cockpit in, and go all out with a full cabinet, and real racing seats.

I'd say if your situation calls for improvisation, and some sort of accommodation to you needs, and there's no way you could live with any of the cockpits offered online, then go that route (DIY project). A project is time consuming and requires some craftiness when it comes to building a good racing cockpit.
-having tried and failed with a tube frame cockpit from PVC pipe, I gave up and purchased a pre fabricated cockpit "Bob Earl Racing" chair, and found it to be exactly what I wanted, and it was WELL worth 250$. Spending money, and getting simplicity was my route of choice.

I'd also like to recommend acoustic room treatment to anyone with high end sound systems. IT DOES WONDERS to your home theater. (in my case, project music studio)

PVC rig based off of Simul8tr's design. Added carpeted MDF floorboard & pedal mount. Passenger side leather seat from an 08' Accord coupe and all the wiring is run inside of the frame to keep it neat.

Nice. Looks a lot less complicated than some PVC rigs. Good job.

Seriously love this thread, so many amazing cockpits! I got my inspiration to build mine from here, will post pictures soon when Nurburgring and Sparco stickers arrive :)

See, that shifter looks like its in the exact right spot to me. But I hardly ever see them there. Does it feel natural? Nice rig.

Edit: I hardly ever see them there, except when I scroll up the page and see them in that position on every second setup. I'm an ass.
