I agree with you about Doom 3, it looked great but didn't have the gameplay to match the visuals. To be honest, it was actually behind the times in terms of gameplay. This game however, is totally amazing

TVR&Ferrari_Fan
My 1st bunch of screens of the demo runs in 1024x768, with all the other settings in high.

Zero AA though :indiff: We appreciate that not everyone's computer can play games with AA on, but if you're posting screenshots you may as well stick it on. Screenshots are after all just about showing how nice the game looks.

Why didn't you use AA? I ran it with everything on at 1280x1024 and it ran fine.
In TVR's defense, I also did not even see any settings to turn the AA on. My screenshots are without adjusting any of the game settings. I am sure he did the same thing but mine are 1280x1024. I am sure the final version will have AA. In 1280 the game still looks very good. If someone found a setting to turn the AA on please let me know.

You can change lots of settings, including AA. Just go on video options then click the tabs at the side.

Ohhhh I didnt even know that. Dang if I had know that I can only imagine how good this game would have looked. I didnt adjust anything and it already looked good. I will have to replay through the demo again or at least mess with the settings and get some new screen shots. Thanks for pointing that out. 👍

This game comes out the same day as Superman returns starts showing in the UK (July 14th). I'll probably buy it on my way back from the cinema. Whatever, i'm definitley gonna get it 👍

If you are buying it for the PC then we should meet online some time to play a few multiplayer games.

Yeah sure, i'll look forward to it :)

Mulitplayer would be so awesome with all the gravity stuff.

I went to check out the multiplayer for the PC version and there werent any rooms available. I ran around by myself and the levels looked sooo fun. I also turned on the AA and this game looks even better now than any of the screenshots I posted. I guess I will have to wait for the final version so I can play the multiplayer.

I managed to find some rooms with a few people in. Some very cool gameplay, so much gravity flipping. Makes me feel quite sick actually

Same thing here gigante. i started to feel a bit sick when playing the game :D deffinatly one of the best demos i've ever played. Gamespot only gave the graphics a 8 out of 10... this game deserves at least a 9. it is put together so well. It sorta reminds me of soul reaver a bit....
what would have really been a big plus is if they could have somehow got rid of the damn load times. it runs great on my pc but sometimes the game stutters. most of the time the framerate is very smooth.

I don't really like gamespot, I feel that IGN is better and I trust their scores. IGN is the site i've always relied on for reviews so i'll have to see what they think of the game. Whatever though, I think i'll be picking this up soon. UK release is July 14th so i'll have to see how much cash i've got spare at the time :D

Gorgeous looking demo, really pretty. The gravity flipping thing works really well and i'm glad it's seemless. The doors that appear in boxes are really quite cool :)

Not really sold on the game though as a whole. Only like 7 weapons in the whole game and the ones i used so far in the demo are pretty boring. Don't like the spirit thing at all.

Will finish the demo and see what i think at the end.

Prey 2 already in development

3D Realms' Scott Miller drops a minor bombshell

PC and Xbox 360 first-person shooter Prey may have only just squeezed out the sphinc-door, but the sequel is already being whipped into shape, it's emerged.

We know this, because 3D Realms' Scott Miller has revealed he's currently working on Prey 2 in an interview with Next-Gen.biz. Although not exactly spilling massive beans on the follow-up, he did at least offer up a little about design plans, explaining, "We are addressing concerns about combat, as well as adding in more gameplay innovations."

One of the criticisms levelled at Prey was that the combat system and enemy AI was somewhat mundane, so we're all for that being moulded into a - hopefully - slavering fighting beast that'll rip our guts out and dump them in a steaming pile on the floor. More on Prey 2 as we get it and let's hope it doesn't require a decade of development, like the first outing.

Holy Bump, Batman!

So yeah, Prey 2 was in development, had pretty sweet concept art, got cancelled, and so on...

Fast forward to modern times, the new Prey 2 (now just called Prey) was announced at E3. A bit of a reboot, it seems. I was a bit skeptical, but the stuff they're showing at Gamescom looks really 🤬 cool:

Another bump and the game now has a demo on PSN and a release at the end of May. The demo covers the first hour of the game.

I may be wrong, but I thought this Prey has nothing to do with the other game of the same name from 2006? I keep hearing it's a "re-boot", but it looks almost nothing like the old Prey. Still wondering why they chose to name it Prey at all.

In any case, this Prey looks like something I would enjoy. I'm looking forward to playing the demo once I can download it.

It's a weird one alright. I couldn't seem to find a definitive answer as to what it has to do with the original or indeed the proposed sequel. It does seem to be along the same lines, so a sort of spiritual follow on/reboot...I don't know.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy. It's a pretty comprehensive demo with a fair amount going on. Not played it myself yet, but seen a good portion of what it has to offer whilst my lady wife played it earlier.

Played the demo yesterday....Im torn about getting it. It has elements I like and the weapon ideas are pretty cool so far. The scare factor isn't bad so that is good for someone like me who usually steers clear of scary games.....but who knows how the rest of the game becomes.

The story is what has me most interested. Looks to be a good experience.

So the game is out (well, not quite, but it's may 5 where i am). Probably gonna get it on PC and so far, reports regarding performance are quite promising.

a good review

tl;dw he rates it well, so according to his rating system it is a "buy"

I definitely enjoyed the demo even though there were things that were strange, like the music not timing properly so I was running around thinking I'm about to encounter enemies since the music was all dramatic, but nothing happened. I was also very bad at aiming, so I need to tinker with the control sensitivity (on PS4). I don't think that I got a good feel of the shooting in the game. Once I got a pistol the demo was over and there wasn't a whole lot of enemies left to shoot at.

Overall, I was definitely intrigued by the plot and I can tell the game is going to contain a lot of weapons upgrading and things like that, but the demo didn't really get into that stuff. I was a little confused by the menus, but that's because I didn't really get to take my time with the demo. Think I will pick this game up soon.

Very atmospheric, detailed (as you'd expect from Arkane) and it looks like it'll be pretty big game. Definitely some jump out of your skin moments and some very tricky mimics encountered so far (in approx ten hours.) Judging by the skill and equipment upgrade tree, there is still a lot to come.

I thought I'd love this after enjoying Dishonored 2 but wanting a theme more like PREY's but the game is just broken on PS4.

The aiming feels off as I sort of expected due to Dishonored 2 but unlike Dishonored 2 the enemies move very fast so it can be a big problem. I also seem to spend way more time gathering resources than using them, I find myself constantly adjusting the sound as some sounds seem multiple times louder than they should be and others multiple times quieter and 3 and a half hours in and the powers are still nowhere to be seen but it doesn't matter because all my saves are corrupted manual, quick and auto so I think I'm just going to trade it in.

My techniques are-

1. Shoot enemy with GLOO gun
2. Stall enemy
3. Run like a pansy
4. Look for alternate route

If that isn't successful, I'll grab a few turrets and throw a distraction grenade into turret ambush.

If all else fails, I'll toss a Recyle grenade but I haven't found any recipes for those so I tend to use as a last resort.

The game is huge with so much, especially early on being dependant upon doing some other things first before being able to complete a few of the tasks (classic game design, I know and maybe not to everyone's taste.)

Character interactions will determine how the game plays out - to what extent, I'm unsure as yet, but paying attention is pretty important as you can kill NPCs if not careful. I like that, as it all helps toward building the atmosphere.

Lots of weapons and enemy types...it's going to take a while, I fear.

What a game. Probably one of the best games of the decade. Similar to SS2, Dead Space, a little bit of BioShock and Dishonored. Basically what BioShock should have been, if it really was to be a successor to SS2. So much flexibility in how you approach the game. Love the atmosphere, music, weapons and monsters. It's definitely gotten quite a bit easier since the first 5 or so hours, so I regret not starting it on Hard. I know the main story is supposed to be disappointing and the ending dissatisfying, but I love the character development in this game that you get through reading notes, emails, and listening to the recordings. Everyone seemed to have loved the Dishonored games, but I think THIS is Arkane's masterpiece. Dishonored never really hooked me, just like the BioShock. While both good franchises, I always felt that they were a bit too linear and simplistic. Not so with this game. I hope there is a Prey 2 where they expand on this game and make it even better. So far, game of the year for me.

EDIT: Just finished the game. One of the best games ever made. Even the story, heavily criticized, turns out to be beyond excellent, and probably the best thing about the game and sums up humanity in general quite well. I almost passed it up. So glad I decided to give it a try. Prey plays and feels like an EXPERIENCE not just simply a game.
