^ If your going for an SSD as well try to go to a 256 gb size. You may end up using all the space quick and just wanting to go bigger.

Project CARS looks good & everything but would be nice if they upped the physics to atleast the same or better than Iracing.Real time physics is the best bet imo.

You keep talking about real time physics but don't tell us what you think it is and why current physics are not real time?

Especially since this is technically absolutely impossible.

Indeed. To have the (seta model) tyres simulated to such a high level in real time is already a big achievement as is.
Let alone if we had to add all the stress and bending under stress of the materials that are in the car.

Does anyone have a IBM Blue Gene supercomputer or 20 in his home? Doubt it. :sly:
So yeah, real time physics on all levels is impossible. Even for iRacing.

No, it's the opposite: ALL physics ARE real time, they have to be!
If they wouldn't be real time, they would be pre-rendered.

Exactly, by definition the physics has to be running in real time, otherwise everything would be delayed. "Oh you want to put your foot down, give me a few moments whilst I work out what will happen when you do that".

Guys, LogiForce knows that, as is evident from his first paragraph - he just rounded off his message mentioning that "real time physics on all levels is impossible", i.e. simulating everything on a molecular level in real time would take an "impossibly" huge amount of supercomputer power :)

As for the STM, that is an achievement indeed, and the current version is just the beginning - physics guru AJ has more up his sleeve...

Going back to the Capri I've seen a couple of posts suggesting it's going to be senior+ but can't find any dev posts regarding it? Anyone know for sure?

Pretty sure it will be the usual Team Member+ friday build (so team member and up get it).

That's what I thought, can't seem to find any devs saying it'll be senior+ so not sure where some people got that from, I think they probably just said it as part of the push for people to upgrade.

Andy G wrote yesterday: "...we're reverting to the previous build schedule now, so the next build (for team members and above) will be published on Friday."

I haven't seen any mention of the Capri being limited to higher tiers. We'll know in roughly 16 hours.

Anyone want to buy me a Senior membership? I will not have th $ by the time funding stops. :D

What the doc said. The physics now in all games are of course in 'real-time', else it would indeed play with horrible and silly lag.
However, what we refer to as 'real-time physics' in this case is that you calculate every variable at every millisecond or faster.
Non 'real-time physics' would be something like generating values for example from a tyre model on a dedicated PC. Record these values and put them in a database. That database with values is then implemented in the game and used by the game engine as source for calculating further car behaviour by other fixed (database) values.

rFactor2's tyre model for example uses such a database. The tyre model is loaded into a dedicated PC with a very high resolution and then in real time the physics from that tyre get recorded. Then those records are put in a 'database' for rF2 to use.

At least... that's as far as I have understood it from reading here and there. Though please correct me if I am wrong here.

I'm liking the latest builds, so might upgrade my account so that I get the game for free at launch.
It's starting to feel less and less like shift in my opinion. Which is a good thing.

I cannot see SMS closing the door to further investments just because the budget has been reached. If it allows them to hire more modellers, I would keep the option open. This just means that the returns on your investment will be lower.

In the case of rF2, the tyre data (tables) is computed 'off line' (not in the game) and non real time, and then the game uses these tables at run time, like you say. The game still uses real time physics, only partly table driven. I guess many older sims used a similar method, just not as sophisticated as rF2.

Every good project manager has to know when to stop adding things and just get on with what they've got, otherwise we'll just end up with Project CARS Forever being released in 2025!

I just came back from my first session with the Zakspeed Turbo Capri and all I can say is... nothing, because I would get warned! Imagine something starting with a capital F, then some stars and a yeah!!! at the end! :D
