Yeah I remember firing it up on PS5 and it looking horrible, arched YouTube videos, why does it look so good, oh PC on high settings. Even GT Legends on high with mods doesn’t even look too bad. Unfortunately no updates or ps5 patch was done for Pc2 because it was already dead. I’d still play it but my wheel doesn’t work well with it.
Yeah, unfortunately PC is the only good option for PC2. Just the FFB tweaks alone you can make for the game improve it dramatically. Throw in what's still considered one of the best VR experiences, and it's a great PC game, still holding it's own to current gen SIMS. Console users got shafted big time.
 
To me the graphics are not the greatest but I love playing it on my PS5. Just in sheer terms of tracks and car types nothing can compare to it on the consoles. Anyway back on topic Mr. Bell has been laying low so that's a good sign.
 
I was already hyped about this game and now, after reading this, I'm RABID for this game.
Now try to keep calm because It does say at the end of the article there will be news soon of "a delay to GTRevival’s release date". That's not unusual, but it won't help your stress levels. So here are some techniques to aid relaxation for you try out while you're waiting for the team to complete the game.
  • Deep breathing.
  • Massage.
  • Meditation.
  • Tai chi.
  • Yoga.
  • Biofeedback.
  • Music and art therapy.
  • Aromatherapy.
  • Hydrotherapy
  • Not playing any other racing games. (You've got one covered)

I'm just a console/controller lifer, raised on arcadey stuff. GT/Forza is about right, ACC is pushing it, PC2 and iRacing were too much.
I'll still probably buy the game just for the cars and tracks, but won't be racing.
Yea those games are very poor with gamepads. PC3 was decent in that regard though albeit a more arcadey game.

I found PC2 easier on controller than ACC.
 
TBH I think PC2 & ACC are very good on the controller. Especially when you get the settings right. PC3 is much better on controller than those 2 though. Hopefully if this is ever released on console I hope the controls are somewhere in between those games

I don't want to play any other racing game until this comes out

Man - there are still several go sims. AMS2 is fantastic even if a little heavy on the formula cars. PC2 can still hold its own. I know a lot of PC2 content is now available as mods for AMS2. With that said if someone came out with combined AMS2 and PC2 would instantly purchase it. I need to see about getting track mod for AMS2 just have not taken the time to do that. One of the things I like about PC series and AMS2 you can change driving views to basically anything you want. The with AMS2 you can even adjust the mirrors.

I am optimistic that GTR REVIVAL can take sim racing to a new level if they can get real time crew chief and commentary to work great.

That's intriguing. Might be why it's been a little quiet on news lately. And it is a big call, sensible though. While it's nice to have all the flashy stuff, it shouldn't be all about graphics. Smooth and adaptable would be good. it might also scale down better onto console, so those PSVR2ers will be pricking their ears up as well. 🙂
 
Interesting, an engine change can be a multi-year development job.

If Unreal isn’t the answer for them (understandable, it’s very tough to get performance out of it, even if it does have advantages elsewhere), I wonder what is.

Could they sublicense the Madness engine from EA maybe? That’d be ironic but the former Slightly Mad staff would know what to do with it, as would Reiza.

I'm glad they had the guts to make a decisoon like that this far along, but it's a bit disappointing as it's going to push things back even further. Well, hopefully they keep the thing on course and get a complete game released eventually.

I get the VR implications, but it very rarely goes well when a team has to make such a drastic upheaval mid-development (as opposed to a planned engine change at the start of a new game).
 
Project Cars 2 with improved graphics and controller feel would be so good in PSVR2.
It's too bad they never remastered it, it's an incredible game. Although I still prefer Assetto Corsa on pad, Xbox. More options to play with and set it according to your liking. It's perfect I think.

Depends on how much they relied on UE5 features and how tightly they integrated those. It might be overseeable if they anticipated a potential swap up front. And even if not: people are expecting VR from this studio, IMO racing is one of the best showcases/applications of VR tech, and previous title from (roughly) the same team have had top-notch VR since 2015. I was actually surprised when they mentioned Unreal Engine in the first place. I also wouldn't put it past them to have conjured up a demo/renders in UE5 to get investors excited, but wanted a different engine all along.

I just hope they don't rush it and take their time to get a fairly well-polished product out the door.

PC2 is an absolute blast on my handheld, fits the platform well, and looks and runs great.

Every time I roll my eyes at a tweet by Ian Bell I have to remind myself that in Project CARS 2 they created possibly my favourite racing game ever, basically the game of my dreams when I was playing on my PlayStation as a kid. Yeah it had flaws and it's been surpassed visually and dynamically by other games since but as big racing game sandboxes go it's still so solid and still very enjoyable.

The only thing that's reduced my time with it is the feeling that for GT cars it's been surpassed big time by ACC and for open wheelers the F1 games do it all better. I don't think PC2 is THE game for simulating any specific series but its the only one that really ties it all together without spreading itself too thin.

It's so easy to get wrapped up in the "yeah right, I'll believe this when I see it" attitude to an IB project but easy to forget what a great game PC2 was. I even really enjoyed it on a pad personally.

Looking at how badly EASWRC runs on UE4, I personally feel like this was the right decision
Most likely situation at this point is either a new in-house engine like Madness, or they’ll just pinch Madness from Reiza now that the company that developed it no longer exists

EA owns the Madness engine due to acquiring Codemasters (who acquired Slightly Mad Studios)

They could probably sublicense the engine though

What was good about it was cars were grouped together. No tuning, just set your car up. Sure some cars were sort of rendered useless or slow compared to others. I loved this about GT Legends too. Lots of races with high horsepower against the mighty mini haha. You never knew whose race it was going to be. Somebody blows by the mini… yeah but it’s not over yet! Here comes the mini again.

The one thing those two games lacked are custom livery. If you didn’t mention what livery you were taking, sometimes you’d end up on the track all in the same car.

I agree about ACC, it’s good for GT cars… I don’t enjoy driving them so I haven’t played the game all that much. But the radar in game is great, the feel is great. Everything else is just a little too hardcore for me.

Anyway, I hope they’ve got well setup groups of cars that are competitive with one another, I hope we can create our own liveries or at the very least modify the colours of the livery to somewhat personalize the car we take. Then if it’s basically PC2 2.0 with a very good selection of cars and tracks and great graphics and feel I’ll be buying it. I’d still play PC2 and put up with the dated graphics but my wheel doesn’t feel great on the game.

How does that work with Reiza, what with them using it in AMS? It's interesting, since they have use of it and are now in cahoots with Straight4, could that give them (S4) access to the Madness engine?

Reiza likely sublicensed it from SMS, specifically for Automobilista 2

For a new game Straight4 would presumably have to do the same, though they’d need to go to EA now
