PS3 General Discussion

hmm, may be this is the best place to post this:
Lair to Support Tilt Controls
September 6, 2006 - Warhawk is no longer alone in its support of the new functionality built into Sony's PlayStation 3 controller. According to the latest issue of Famitsu, the kids over at Factor 5 are working on making Lair compatible with the controller as well. The controller's tilt-sensors will be used to directly control your dragon, the magazine reports, without going into specifics.

Famitsu also reveals that Lair will feature, in addition to intense air battles, ground-based combat. While details haven't been revealed, the combat reportedly looks like Square Enix's Drakengard, with hundreds of soldiers fighting on the ground. It's unclear if you dismount your dragon for the ground battles as in the Square Enix title, or if you remain aboard your dragon and take out your enemies with close-range fire.

Lair is expected to be one of the big PS3 titles at the Tokyo Game Show, so all the confusion should be cleared up in just a couple of weeks.

I have Enchanted Arms for the XBOX 360.

As you guess, yeah it will come on PS3.

I recorded a part in the game.

Those are the real time sequence in the game. With the Japanese voice with english sub.

Riding a huge dragon around toasting dudes, what can be better than that?
I am really looking forward to see this game at TGS.

EDIT: New EU Ps3 site launch, pretty cool IMO: LINK
(If you wanna bash Sony about thier EU delay thing, please post it in the other thread):)

I'm not. Riding dragons just ain't my thang. Cool shots, though.

Yeah, that site has been on post one for quite some time. The new update for that site has been up for several days, now.

Notice the top right ceiling camera doesn't work. Maybe we'll get an update soon.

I can't wait to find more PS3 720P screenshots.

The Lair shots are both in engine, neither CG, and the second one you posted as "gameplay" has been enlarged and blurred, losing much of the texture quality.

Here are the shots, in their original size:

Thanks for the link :) 👍 ..... having had a look at it the box looks rubbish..... having it bright blue looks nasty (would have been better transparent dark blue..... and having the playstation 3 bit down the side makes it look so odd...should have been PSP style, reminds me of GBA Advance games..... shudders! I hope thats not the final box because abit from the rounded edges it another thing that Sony have screwed up!

Oh and guys, I would really appreciate it if you made the pictures thumnails because im on 56k at the moment and this page took like 15 mins to load!!!!!!!:grumpy: Thanks

^^^ The blue is only a mock up of what IGN thinks the casing may look like, I expect it to be different, as that is the Blu-Ray movie case, and I don't think the PS3 will use the bright blue colors, as it doesn't fit the current "scheme" they've got going with the PS3.

As for the PS3 stuff going down the side, that's how old school PS1 games were, and I welcome the change back, maybe you were too young to remember that ;)

It sets the PS3 games off nicely from the competition.

Some people are just too picky. :P

I'd rather see some nice graphics ON the boxes myself, something that shows off the game, that's what concerns me as far as the box. Of course it's what's inside that counts.

I have to say that Enchanted Arm was rather meh. The graphics were okay (for a PS2 or GameCube game anyway) and the Japanese voice actors helped out a bit, but the music was almost non-existent and nothing grabbed me. And a golem that couldn't operate for more than five minutes sure seemed to be tearing it up for some time... oh well, someone will buy it. Typical 360 game.

Ah..boobies:eek: :dopey: Nice art box
Other games' cases should have box covers like Untold Legend, so we can have something to look at while wating the level to load:dopey: (even for a very short time)

The animation is meh, I agree. But graphic when you play around the map, they sure are incredible.

The combat engine is really fun. I actually think of a strategy when playing. I've died many times. It is almost as hard as Shin Megami Tensei Nocturne. Ask anybody who got the game. Battle are funs in Enchanted Arms. :)

All I can say, it is better than Wild Arms. (I'm at 20% of the game)

So far, I've met no one online to battle my golems. I guess they are leveling them before trying. >_>

Enchated Arms will be the first RPG to be out on the PS3. While me during that time I will probably be playing Trusty Bell(XBOX 360) or something else :sly: . I hope they will change the face of those NPC, cause 90% of them are twins with different cloths.

FFXII > Echanted Arms *and* Trusty Bell...even without the pretty graphics.

And uhh...Untold Legends is an Action RPG, and is also a launch title. Which will come out long before Enchanted Arms.

Thank god its what IGN THINK!.... cause im sure sony wouldnt be that stupid! Your right it doesnt fit in with the theme of the PS3 and sony in general, theve been going for the blacks, whites and dark blues reciently! It would be nice if it was gloss black like the machine itself but I still think transparent dark blue would be the best.

Plus.... all the covers should be done on reflective silvery paper like chocolate bar style... that would really stand out. I also seem to remember ray man on ps2 had one of those covers where the picture is 3D if you tilt it up and down... that would be really cool!

hahaha, im not that young! although my first console I bought into was the PS2, I skipped all the stuff before but yeah now that you remind me the PS1 games are like that.. but that made more sense on a square case not a rectangular one...

Im telling you guys.... ITS ALL ABOUT THE CASE!!!!

Robin :) 👍

Cell to power next generation of supercomputers
The Cell processor has been marketed as a super chip ever since the PlayStation 3 was announced, and it looks like the U.S. Department of Energy's National Nuclear Security Administration has found a use for it as well.

According to an announcement by the Cell's main developer, IBM, 16,000 Cell processors B.E. (no, that's not a typo) and 16,000 AMD Opteron processor cores will be used to make a new supercomputer capable of tackling both scientific and commercial applications. It has been confirmed that the supercomputers will begin shipping at the end of this year.

"This new supercomputer demonstrates a commitment to achieve a major advance in technological capability that will help enable scientists and businesses solve the most challenging problems," said Bill Zeitler, senior vice president of IBM Systems and Technology Group.

The Cell will also be powering the PlayStation 3, Sony's contender in the next-gen console war. The PlayStation 3 will be hitting stores on November 11th in Japan and November 17th in North America.

After its initial launch of 400K units into the U.S. market, SCEA plans to ship another 800K units via air-freight through the end of the year, making 1.2 million units total.

Speaking to analysts late last week, the firm added some flesh to the bones of its recent announcements. The split between premium (60GB) and core (20GB) units at U.S. retail stores should be roughly 80/20. Sony believes it can ramp monthly PS3 production to 1.2 million units by January due to anticipated improvements in blu-ray laser supplies.

Sony had originally intended to ship four million PS3s by the end of the calendar year.

The firm says a further 1.2 million units will be available in Japan following the initial launch-day arrival of 100K units. Analysts believe Sony will have managed a run-rate of 14 million units for 2007.

Details of the PS3 online network were discussed in broad terms, with, as expected, plans for basic community features such as video, audio and text chat, gamer rankings, as well as limited content downloads such as casual games and game updates as well s non-games downloads such as full music and video, user-generated content, and Internet browsing. SCEA indicated that full downloads of console games will not be practical in the near term due to storage and bandwidth constraints.

to reach that goal, math tells me they have to produce 13.000 plus PS3´s per day... i wonder how many factories do they have:nervous:

I have been looking for an LCD or plasma tv hopefully 32"and up and all i can find here is HDTV ready tvs. If i get a PS3 will it not transmit the full pontential and do i need to get an HDTV tuner?

I doubt that. I predict 800k at the most.

Well, Jeremy, I can now say the PS3 is $200 more than the 360. :dopey:

I believe you just plug in your PS3 and the HD will work. The HD built-in, which is available for some HDTVs, only convert hi-def TV signals, so you wouldn't need a cable box to do it for you.

So, in other words, buying an HD ready TV will be fine, and you'll be able to do 720p/1080i with it, and 1080p if your TV supports it.

The PS3 will support regular tv's right? I dont want to have to go buy an HDTV just to play my ps3! Its already expensive enough as it is..

I have an SDTV, whatever that is.. *shrug*

Yes, it will be playable on a normal TV. You just won't get the full graphical potential out of it.

I see..

As far as graphical potential, do you mean that i just wont have the widescreen... Or will the graphics actually be toned down when playing on a regular tv?

Yeah, you won't have the widescreen, and you won't have as much clarity and visible detail. All the goods are still there, but an SDTV can't show everything as it was meant to be shown.

Got bored....

I am going to buy a PS3, as soon as the price drops, which will hopefully come later on. I have no where near 650 dollars to shell out for a system like that. Say in 10-14 months, yeah I will most likely have more than enough cash to buy it and a few games (maybe even the G25:D)

The only thing I need to know now is when the first price drop is.
