PS3 General Discussion

I was going to get one of those mini flexible rubber keyboards for portability off ebay. If I'm gonna use the net on this thing a keyboard is a must.

The DLNA media streaming is awesome too. If you're running Vista, you can stream out audio and video as long as the PS3 supports the file. Anything in your Documents folder (C:\Users\*username*\) can be shared, even files within iTunes (except for protected files).

Just go to your Control Panel > Network and Sharing Center > and make sure Media Sharing is turned on. Vista and your PS3 will automatically find each other and Vista will start streaming files to your PS3. You can even copy over files from Vista to the PS3.

Xbox 360 FTL!

It doesn't work with Windows XP. I need to use a USB Flashdrive, which I have, and used. But, it didn't work. I have no idea how to get the PS3 to accept it.

Use Windows media player 11, go to Tools>Options>Library>Configure Sharing...and check "sharing my media. Your PC will recognize the PS3 at "Unknown device", Try to do a scan on the PS3, the windows media player logo will appear on your PS3, you then can play all the supported music, movies, and pictures from My music, My video, and my pictures folders located in your My Documents folder.

Whoa! Anyone who has HDMI, go to Display Settings and select RGB Full Range (HDMI). The black levels are greatly increased. Very helpful for those with LCD panels.
Yeah, the black levels are nicely improved, but everything else has way too much contrast for my liking.

I tried fiddling around with the TV's own settings, but it's just too much of a difference without going to extremes.

Edit: NVM, it was the very vibrant colours that were bothering me. I turned it down, and upped the brightness a little, and now it's fine, with the better black levels. 👍

PSM: Sixaxis will rumble this year

According to a GameFAQs forum member, the latest issue of PSM revives the PS3 Sixaxis rumble rumors, hinting once again that Sony could integrate the "last-gen feature" into upcoming controllers. According to the magazine's rumor section, Sony will announce rumble support at E3 for a release in mid-November. The re-designed controller will allow both tilting and rumble, united at long last thanks to the settled courtroom battle between Sony and Immersion.

Nope, only Windows Media Player 10. It's the not the same. Oh well.

I really recommend that you download and install Windows Media Player 11. This feature works great, even with the fairly weak wireless signal that I sometimes get between my PS3 and the distant router . The PS3 just gets better with each Firmware update.

...Well, looks like there'll be no Warhawk beta today.

:(

BTW, Duck, I did register for the Warhawk beta at the actual website. Im not sure why I didnt get it....but oh well...

The new update certainly gives me more bragging rights against all the 360 fanboys in my school. Very cool, although, much of if doesnt apply to me because I do not have an HDTV yet...

Yeh, I need an HDTV too! This reminds me of a classic argument I once had with my cousin - I got a Commodore 64 and he got an Amstrad CPC464... I had a TV and he had one of those green screen monitors. I boasted that the C64 had 512 colours, and he replied "Well, I have 1024 shades of green..."

 Well... I know I'll be getting an hdtv later sometime so I'm all good. I'm entertaining either an hdmi to dvi for my current monitor or getting a 22 in monitor to hold me over though.

Ps Store Updated, Warhawk Beta Included.

Edit:

WT HELL? I accidentally exit the store, and when I come back they're all gone, what's happening?

Never mind, I am downloading right now:

Downloading the beta now as well...

Anyway, for the rest of you beta-less people... you get an Uncharted trailer, 5 MLB 07 trailers, Championship Sprint trailer, and Joust.

OK, Warhawk impressions...

It's okay. Aside from not being able to connect to the good servers (with 25+ people in them), and the unintuitive controls, and the lack of a helper guide, it's a decent game. It looks good, it sounds great (but it's a bit loud), but the gameplay is just... meh. I can see why people were mad when they ditched the single player.

I need to spend some more time with it, but at this point I wouldn't pay more than $15 for it. Maybe I'll get the hang of it and join busier servers, and I'd like it more – which I'm hoping will be the case.

EDIT: Of course, it is a beta, so I guess I should be cutting it more slack.

THat definately sounds like confession of a bad player.

I've been playing for about an hour and a half, and the controls are not that bad. Fly with the six axis, aim with the Left stick, perform evasive manuevers with the right, and select your weapons with the D-Pad (fire with L1). I reallyd on't know what you're talking about. In fact, I'd say it sounds more like you're just repeating what you've heard on the 1up show.

baahhhh . bahhhh. It's not that bad man ;) Just play it a little more and it's actually pretty smooth. As for those SCEA servers, no one can get in, they're SCEA only controlled I would assume. Just wait another few hours until the rooms start filling up like crazy, they invited nearly 6000 people, just give it some time ;)

No brownie points for you!

perform evasive manuevers with the right,

Hey! Never knew that.

I just wish there was some tutorial or something, since most of my complaints stem from the lack of one.

But anyway. Maybe we should start a GTP clan or something, even though there'd be about 4 people in it.

Okay okay sorry for the pokes at the bad player jokes :P

Anyway, yea, actually there is an online manual ;) And you'll constantly see hints pop up unless you turn them off, which tell you how to do things like climb objects, hang from walls, drive, fly, etc.

You can boost with R2, fire with R1 and fire special weapons with L1. holding L1 will often "lock on" to a target.

When using the sniper rifle, pressing R3 will zoom, pressing it again will zoom further. L3 will take you out of zoom at any point. R1 is fire.

Pressing and holding the right analog stick "up" or "down" while in the warhawk will allow you to do an evasive manuever, and letting go halfway through the "loop" will redirect you and turn you around. Very handy for air battles, and learning to use it can keep you alive to get health. Pressing the right stick left or right will cause you to do a barrel roll and you can avoid missles and take "less" damage that way, as some bullets will hit you.

Hopefully that helps you out!

Oh yea, "X" is jump :P

THanks for the rep, lol.

You really should check out the official beta forum, they've got some interesting threads going there. I've created one, but it doesn't seem like anyone wants to participate in a beta like they are supposed to, they just want to complain and whine instead of reporting problems and issues, or offering feedback.

Speaking of the beta, we're under NDA. Looks like you guys get no pics from me.

And where's the beta forum, BTW? Is it the Warhawk subforum in the PS boards, or is it something else?

I am having soooo many problems with my internet...it never works. Honestly it works about 1/7 of the time...and its not just my ps3, my computers access sucks as well. We even changed isp's and it still sucks (we use roadrunner now) and i just cant get it to work the way it should. So I really can never play online...it sucks so bad.

Do I need Vista for this streaming crap to work, or just WMP 11?
I am using Windows XP, and I found the following information in a post at boardsus.playstation.com, followed the instructions, and it worked perfectly for me.

"This is how to set up media sharing using firmware update 1.80. You must have your PS3 connected to your computer via a network. (Meaning it must share the same internet connection as the pc you are trying to connect it to.)

1)If you don't already have it, Download Windows Media Player 11
2)Install Windows Media Player 11
3)Once installed click on Tools in the title bar
4)Click on Options
5)Click on Library
6)Click on Configure Sharing
7)Click on Settings
8)Make sure Allow New Devices and Computers Automatically is checked
9)Make sure All Ratings are checked
10)Click on OK

Everything should work fine. The PS3 should automatically detect your PC now. If you want to add pictures for your PS3 to see them they must be in the MyPictures folder of your main account on your PC.

Now you can have all the music, videos and pictures from your PC right on your PS3!"

I am running the PS3 on a wireless connection, and while the router is about 50 Feet, and three walls away, it works great. The only video, picture, and music files that I have seen are those residing in the My Pictures, My Video, and My Music folders under the My Documents folder of my main account on the PC. If I want to see more stuff that I may have on my computer, I suppose that I must simply move the files over to one of these respective folders. The PS3 gets more useful with each Firmware Update.
