PS3 General Discussion

Sorry for jumping over the rumour but I have a PS3 related question. I tried playing the original GT on my PS3 the other night and it was so laggy I couldn't even navigate the home screen. Is there anyway to resolve this? I sold my PS1 when I bought my Xbox ages ago.

Have you tested other PS1 games? It shouldn't be having an issue. If I rememberlater on I can test my GT1 disc and see if it might be a bug in the latest firmware or something.

Is the disc in good shape as well?

Before now the only lag I have had on PS1 games is when playing them over Remote Play. I even played through GT1 and GT2 again before Prologue launched.

I tried GT2 as well as it acted in the same way, I'll have to dig up some other games to see if they cause a similar problem. The discs are in good shape, no scratches or anything.

What? The 40GB doesn't have chrome trim, it has silver trim.

60gb is chrome trim. You mean they did a matte silver color on the new ones? My dad's motorstorm bundle is chrome too.

VG 247 is pulling that out of thin air. They don't even justify themselves with an "insider source" or a "source close to Sony." Sony responded to squash the rumors in less than a day.

[Update: Unsurprisingly, Sony has squashed these rumors flat. PlayStation's Patrick Seybold told us, "Those rumors are completely untrue, nothing has been announced or confirmed for upcoming PlayStation firmware, and this is just wild speculation." Well, we don't know about wild ... you haven't heard our speculation about your existing PS3 transforming into a PS3 Slim after applying the 3.0 firmware. It's true!]

I tried CoolBoarders 2 and Theme Hospital tonight as they were the only other PS games I could find and it still lagged really bad. Should I try reinstalling the firmware?

Just tried my GT2 it works fine. I have a new 80GB system since my old one died. R.I.P. launch 60GB.

There is a good chance that Sony will bring back full ps2 compatibility. I hope so cuz I HATE memory cards....

I have a question. And, yes, I know you all must be pissed about rumours of a slim PS3 coming out.

But if a slim DOES make it out... does this mean a price drop for 'ol chunky?

Thanks

Assuming we do see a slim:

If they follow the same pattern as the PS2, the larger model will be discontinued and the slim will have a lower price than the old model.

yes I still whip it out from time to time, once I buy this all I need to find is Nemesis.
Ahem.

Hey PlayStation fans, I’m Ryan, Capcom’s newest Bearer of Good News. Today, I’m here to bring you word of our upcoming PlayStation classics, a library of classic games being brought to you on the PlayStation Network. We’ve sorted through our archives and hand-selected the games that rocked the industry. All of these upcoming classics will be released over the PSN, and will be playable on your PSP.

Coming up first is Capcom Classics Collection: Remixed, available tomorrow. The game is a collection of arcade classics from gaming’s glorious past. Pay homage to the best of the arcades, like Final Fight, Bionic Commando, Street Fighter, and Magic Sword. Prove your old-school dominance with twenty full arcade titles. Check out the full list of included games here.

Later this summer, look forward to Fate/Unlimited Codes. Capcom’s fighting game masters have brought one of Japan’s most popular animes exclusively to the PSN, ready for the new PSPgo. High-flying combos and fast-paced versus action show off the game’s gorgeous 3D graphics, and it’s a fighting-game experience you can’t get anywhere else.

Next, keep your eyes out for more gems from Capcom, being brought directly to the PSN. Check out the full list below, including PSone and UMD Legacy titles, and come back often for more info on individual release timing.

  • Capcom Classics Collection Remixed (UMD Legacy)
  • Mega Man Powered Up (UMD Legacy)
  • Dino Crisis (PlayStation Legacy)
  • Power Stone Collection (UMD Legacy)
  • Mega Man Maverick Hunter X (UMD Legacy)
  • Resident Evil 2 (PlayStation Legacy)
  • Darkstalkers (UMD Legacy)
  • Street Fighter Alpha 3 Max (UMD Legacy)
  • Resident Evil 3: Nemesis (PlayStation Legacy)
  • Capcom Classics Collection Reloaded (UMD Legacy)

You're welcome. No date, but you now know it is coming.

And I already have Capcom Classics Collection Reloaded. I got it for my birthday.

Fight Night 4's training system has to be the most retarded 🤬 I have ever seen.

Seconded. It's a pity too, as the game itself is great.

Even if the face thing doesn't really work properly.

Yeah, the face thing is a huge letdown too. When it generated my face I almost fell out of my chair. I think as long as you're not black it makes any face into a Puerto Rican.

Now that's a bundle:tup:

PS3 Bundle Includes MGS4, Killzone 2

Normally, hardware bundles are a spotty affair. A game you don't really want, or two games, one you kinda want, one you just do not want. But this bundle, on sale at Best Buy next Sunday, looks great!

Sent in by a Best Buy employee, and confirmed by other BB employees, it's an 80GB PS3 bundled with copies of two of the biggest games on the system: Metal Gear Solid 4 and Killzone 2. All that for the asking price of a standard PS3, $400.

It's one hell of a bundle. It's like getting a Wii with Twilight Princess and Mario Galaxy, or a 360 with Gears 2 and Halo 3. But perhaps more importantly, it's also one hell of a saving; perhaps Best Buy need to clear out their stock of 80GB PS3s for oh, I don't know, a new PS3?

Woah, I still have this weird network problem onPS3.
I just read about that Sky - network issue which seems SIMILAR (I DON'T get logged offpsn tho)... and I already set DNS manually, it helped but not much, it's still pretty much useless to play any game online...

So how do I set a STATIC IP... my router has no options/ buttons and on PS3 itself I can't set it either cause I need to put my ISP's PPoE number or it won't connect??

PS: I turned off the automated answer machine for my phone line and it was all good again but only for few hours :( so it clearly looks like my ISP's fault, but they, of course, say it's SONY's fault ... just FYI :S

Just you can see Im not making this up heres speedtest fom my PC and my PS3... same router, same cables so hardware should not be an issue.
I really need HELP!

A follow-up to a question I had a while back - but does anyone know why the BBC iPlayer website looks so different when browsing on a PS3 than on a regular PC? I am trying to find a way of downloading and watching BBC HD content on my TV, but I can't see the iPlayer website on my PS3 the same way I can on my laptop... any ideas?

Perhaps it requires the most up to date version of Flash? The PS3 often does not have this.

Could be one of two reasons:

1) iPlayer has a different site specifically designed for the PS3, like You Tube does, only iPlayer detects your system and automatically sends you where it wants.

2) iPlayer's design is not properly setup to work with either your visual settings on the PS3 browser or TV resolutions, which is why sites like You Tube have purposely designed sites to better optimize console browsing.

Wait, thought of a third.
3) Not knowing if iplayer uses Flash: The PS3 browser has Flash 9, but many sites are now on Flash 10.

I think that's what is happening - the URL is different... it automatically goes to www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/bigscreen, and the "Watch in HD" option is missing :indiff: Still, it's great being able to watch it on the PS3 in standard def anyway...

I can probably answer it directly:
I'm 95% sure that HD online video (at least when it comes to YouTube) requires Flash 10. It took me a couple of hours to figure that out after I installed Windows 7 on my laptop.

Chris, has your HDTV not got a PC input? All the ones I've been looking at have them as standard. What other inputs do you have on it?

Well my PS3 died tonight (60gig UK launch machine).

Playing a quick COD4 match and it just stopped and shutdown, went to turn it on and its the flashing red light and nothing else. Game still firmly in place.

Lucky I have Continous Protection cover from Sony, so I will be giving them a call about getting it replaced.

Update -

Refurbished 60gig PS3 will be with me on Monday, but the bad news is that my copy of COD4 that's stuck inside will take 4-8 weeks to get back to me.

So that's great and bugger respectively

4-8 weeks? They only said 3-6 weeks for my Grid! Then again, I suppose it might be dependant on the issue. Just as an update regarding my PS3, things are running smoothly at the moment as they should, I can safely say I will be extending the waranty I don't want what happened to the previous one to happen again.

One thing I'm finding strange is that everyone's PS3 that has broken is a 60GB launch model, has anyone who has a 80GB one or 40GB had any similar probelms to the ones on the 60GB's?

Well, it looks like AdHoc Party may be coming to the US (and other regions?) soon.
http://ps3.qj.net/Sony-trademarks-A...ce-finally-heading-overseas-/pg/49/aid/133146

Adhoc Party is a Japan-only service that allows PSP owners to play online via a PS3 even if their games are adhoc-only. It's perfect for games like Monster Hunter Freedom Unite and other games that support only local wireless multiplayer.

The service has been in beta form in Japan since late last year, but so far Sony has made no move to bring it anywhere else. Yeah, you can download it from the Japanese PSN but it just would've been so much better -- and easier -- if an English version was also available. If this recent trademark spotted by Siliconera is any indication, Sony may finally be gearing up for a Western release.

As the report notes, Adhoc Party has been out for almost 8 months now, so this doesn't seem to be a protective trademark. I personally never understood why Sony chose to sit on Adhoc Party for too long instead of giving it a worldwide beta release a few months after Japan got their beta, so I really hope this pans out. I mean come on, it's about damn time.
Just in case someone doesn't quite understand it:

Adhoc Party is for your PSP games that have Adhoc multiplayer. Adhoc multiplayer are games that will only play with other PSPs nearby, not over the Internet. What Adhoc Party allows you to do is connect your PSP to your Internet connected PS3 through Adhoc, and the PS3 will connect you to another player online using Adhoc party as well.

Why you should care (assuming you own a PSP): Gran Turismo PSP will allow online play and car trading via adhoc mode only. Sure, you can play Gran Turismo online much easier, but if you want to trade cars with someone on GTPlanet you can do so no matter how far away you are.

OK I'm officially very hacked off with Sony right now.

Despite assurances that I would get a replacement PS3 today, it would seem they forgot to tell the courier to actually deliver it.

Now Wednesday is the earliest they can do, and once again the expect me to wait in all day, currently in dicussion regarding a fixed delivery time. I think thats the minimum they can do given that I have wasted a day waiting for them already.

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Scaff

Edited to add - I have now been promised a delivery before 12 on Wednesday - lets see if they can manage this without a mishap.
