Its only because Sony has a reputation for producing underwhelming news, last time they talked forever about the PS2 which was ridiculous.
I would to considering last year the PS2 was still outselling the 360, and the
PS2 version of many multi-platform games was the best selling version.
That, and based on facts, and not personal opinion, Sony showed more games, more exclusives, and more features for their PS3 than the 360 and Wii at E3 2008 despite having to split up their time between the PS3, PS2 and PSP. Oh, and let's not forget that at E3 2008, Sony not only revealed their PSN Video Store... but announced that it was available then and there, and not some time in the future.
Yes, I understand why "some people" will say it was "underwhelming news" and or that they "dropped the ball", but not only doesn't it make it true, but is just a personal opinion. They can just as easily say that ice cream sucks.
Based on how many highly rated exclusive games came out for the PS3 following E3 2008, the success of their PSN Video Store, the significant system software updates, the PSN store updates, and most certainly the success of Home and all it's updates... the PS3 brand had a pretty impressive 2008 compared to the competition.
Don't get me wrong, I want amazing news but im not hopeful for something on the scale of full body motion control.
Not to burst your bubble, but PS3 has had full body motion control via the
PS Eye for nearly two years now. Yes, what they demonstrated with NATAL is a big improvement... but it's also still in development, with only tech demos to show for it so far.
But they [Sony] do, as you said, have the upper hand as they are going last and have seen the standard set.
Presentations are planned weeks in advance... not hours, so that's not what gives them an advantage. In stead, MS had the advantage because while they stayed mum about their upcoming line up, Sony and their developers have already been discussing many of their games... so MS already knew what they were mostly up against long before E3 2009.
Yet despite that, Sony has already announced more new exclusive games for the PS3 than what MS has announced... and Sony has not even started their E3 2009 presentation yet.
So even if they don't announce anything new, Sony has already "won" in terms of upcoming exclusive games... but honestly, why is it even that important to you that Sony best MS again? The PS3 is feature rich, that allows you to do many things no other console can, and has a
huge library of PS3 games and
PSN games, including most of the
highest rated games among critics... many of which are
only available on the PS3.
