PS3 General Discussion

I've never seen the attraction of pool/snooker games myself. My nearest pub with a real pool table is only about 800 metres away... :D
If I had a pool hall nearby not filled with drunken white trash I would agree, but as it is I am more likely to get beat up than play a game.

A friend has a pool table in his basement and that is fun, but when you play maybe once every few months and he practices all the time you realize any hopes of winning are futile. If I get a game that uses proper physics and allows me to improve my angles and learn a few tricky shots better then my limitations will only be in the physical abilities of my hands (my aim sucks).

lol, anyway. I have a memory card adapter. I use it to back up my memory cards so i can basically have unlimited space, very helpful.
Are you backing up PS2 cards on to your PS3? I am assuming you don't have a BC PS3?

Help question!

Just got the replacement ps3 back (as mine was broken 1,5 weeks ago) and i took out the updated 320gb harddisk when it broke and put the stock harddisk back.

Now i tried to put the 320gb harddisk back and it says its the wrong harddisk :/

Any one has an idea how to get my old harddisk to work?

:)

Since you got a different PS3 the 320GB HDD is not registered with that system until it formats it. I hope you made an official backup file.

nope :nervous:

mmmm no way to get the harddisk to be recognized  or copie savegames from the hdd ...

edit:

after googleing it seems its impossible. *presses format* , ah well ps3 is atleast working again.

edit:

after having more lights on in the house i now see that the frontplastic case of the ps3 (with the logo) is not attached like it should

Sony has confirmed to us at a holiday showcase event in New York City tonight that the PlayStation Eye game, EyePet, will definitely be heading to the US in time for the holidays. Our roving reporter, Andrew Yoon, says that the game will be available standalone as well as bundled with the PlayStation Eye camera.

Previously, the game was only announced for a European release after it was first revealed at Leipzig GC last year. We're happy to see the adorable simian-dog-thing will be making the jump across the Atlantic and won't be suffering from the chronic case of Q1-2010 flu that's making the rounds.

And because throwing gas on the PS3 Slim rumors is fun:

And Sony is doubling manufacture orders. They may be preparing for something big.

Sony doubling PS3 Manufacture Orders

Digitimes reports that demand for different key PS3 components is roughly doubling.

The most likely explanations:

  • Sony is gearing up for the launch of a new PS3 model (such as the rumored slimline)
  • Sony is planning a price drop and is ramping up supply to satisfy the anticipated demand surge.
  • Both
I’d imagine that Sony is planning to launch the slimline at the same time as the price drop to create a bigger impact than the two events would have separately.

My question: Is it possible to transfer trophies across different PSN accounts? I have two accounts, one for racing games and the other for shooters, but want to be able to transfer trophies between each. Chances are Sony didn't allow for this, but alas I am keen to know.

Also, I often play Resistance 2 at my friends house using my PSN to login to play co-op, yet I am unable to see any trophies (that should normally appear) appearing on my account (again, Sony would have disallowed this I am guessing because it would allow people to gain extra trophies without actually having purchased the game, giving an unfair advantage to those with lots of PS3 'buddies').

No trophies are not transferable.

I dont exactly get what you mean with that Resistance 2 stuff.
You can see your trophies on any PS3 your account on.

He may need to perform a "Sync" next time he is on his friend's PS3, it may not have updated.

I think you've asked this question before and the answer still hasn't changed, no one knows because nothing has been confirmed yet, if you look at the other transitions (PSone and PS2 slim) then one could reasonably assume that the size will change and they may add/subtract some features, but performance itself wouldn't change.

Actually the Slim PS3 will be slightly less powerful. It will not be able to download software updates or use controllers. Blu-ray will be replaced by a UMD drive.

But I thought that since it was using unicorn horns and angel tears as a power source it should have fantastical processing powers.

Thats put me slightly worried about if I will get Grid back. Its one of those games I seriously want back. And its been about 5 weeks since it was sent away now...so it could be anytime over the next couple of days. Hopefully.

Just an update, Grid did turn up within the 6 week limit. No probelms at all. And still works perfectly. :)

When you do a backup, does the backup take up as much space as is used on the PS3 or does it copy the whole drive(w/ free space)?

It does some compression, and will only take up as much space is used, not the whole available space on the hard drive. When I switched out my drives I backed up roughly 50GB and it only took up 41GB on my external drive.

I have a potentially silly question, but how easy is it to actually fill the PS3 hard drive. I'm 95% certain that I will finally have one come this Sunday, and I'm wondering whether I might as well buy a bigger HDD for it as well.

If you have lots of games, most of them require an install. I believe GT5P is 6gb which is alot for a reasonably small HD. Other games like GTA IV etc also require installs. Most of the HD will be taken up by the games you download from the store and the games which install on the HD. I have used around 50gb of my 80gb since October but for people like Ceiling Fan who play a whole lot of games, they will use up the HD very quickly. If I were you I would definately upgrade the hard drive because when you get the console with no games you have nothing to backup and so the process is quicker. If you use your 80 or 40gb and then decide to upgrade it will take hours.

EDIT: Sorry i'm not that great at writing informative posts like Foolkiller and D-N are.

@ Toronado - After a year and a half of playing, downloading, deleting, etc. my 80 gig is about half full. If I ever decide to put all my movies on it, it'll fill up in a quick hurry as they are all about 1 gig each.

Normal use and you'll be fine for quite a while.

If you frequently play intall forced games and have many psn titles. Its not hard to fill up the 40/60/80 GB systems. If you do anything but use it for game
ing you really should just upgrade the HDD. I cant imagine having a HDD less than 200GB. About what I have left.

How do you swap the HDD for the PS3? I dont have a PS3 yet but it is something that I would most likely want to do when I get one.
Thanks 👍
Allyn

I finally got one! Went out and bought it today.

Congratulations. Its a great machine and well worth its price tag. Now sit back and enjoy as you download the recent update, patches for games, Home, Folding@Home etc. And give it another 3 weeks until Sony annoy you by cutting the price. :sly: But it will still be worth every penny.
