PS3 General Discussion

Welcome to the club!

And it took me nearly two years to fill my 60GB. If you keep movies, music, and pictures on an external HDD you won't fill it up too fast. One key is that if you play a lot of forced install games you can delete the game data when you are finished or don't intend to come back to them for a while.

Also, a large chunk of my HDD is filled with DLC. I think I have nearly 9GB for Rock Band alone (including the 4.5GB of exported RB1 songs into RB2). I think PAIN is at about a gig now and Warhawk is at about 1.5 GB. That is all primarily due to DLC.

I suggest waiting until you see how your own personal habits will effect your HDD space. The worst that can happen is HDD prices will drop.

I do suggest having some form of external drive just to do backups though. That way if you lose anything you can get it back.

Thought people should be made aware of this. Sony are holding their GamesCom presentation on Tuesday the 18th of August. And if you believe all or even half of the rumors all PS3 owners and future owners are going to be drooling over their keyboards!

Rumors include:
-PS3 slim with €100 price cut
-PSP Go price cut (even before release??)
-System software update 3.0 which includes a massive revamp to the PSN
-GT5 release date announcement
-Everyone with a PS3 gets a brick of gold
-All will be cancelled due to a minor flu named after pigs.

I think it would be cool if they went through with the PSP Brite price cut rumours that were floating around before E3 (ie. PSP at a DSL-like $130), but I'd have to assume that no one would be dumb enough to buy a Go if the Brite cost $100 less.

Thanks for the info. My plan was to see how long it took me to get to the halfway mark and then buy a 120 GB (or, depending on prices, larger) hard drive from there. I don't plan on ever using the pay-money parts of PSN (that will probably change if SNK stops being jerks), and I don't own any actual games for the system yet (I don't even have a memory card converter, so all I've been doing since I bought it is transferring stuff from my laptop).

If you do not partake in PSN only games, or even some of the DLC you will be missing out.

Wipeout HD - PSN Only
Flower - PSN Only
Super Stardust HD - PSN Only
Burnout Paradise: Big Surf Island expansion - PSN Only

I could go on, but there are some real gems on the PlayStation Store that you would be missing out on. It allows for some smaller companies to get games out that they normally couldn't afford to put out in stores.

But if you are sure you won't use the PlayStation Store then I can assure you that you won't need a larger hard drive any time soon.

I dunno. Part of the problem is that I have so many normal games backlogged that I want to buy, in addition to all the games I already own that I still play and games for other systems, that I doubt I would have the time to play them anytime soon anyways. Comes with getting the system so late, I suppose.

Well, there are always free demos, which are also on the PlayStation Store.

And that's another thing. At least check out their free add-ons and stuff. You get demos, trailers, developer diaries, small news tidbits in Pulse, and occasionally free TV episodes and shorts in the video store.

Agreed. And who knows. One of those games you're backlogged on might have a demo, you'll play it and decide you don't like it, thus saving you the purchase and time.

Of course, it'll likely be replaced with another demo that wasn't on your list that you'll like.

Playstation 3 slim looking kinda weird ;) ?

I really hope that isnt it, it looks kinda strange. If thats fanboy work congratz to them cause it looks damn real.

I remember seeing that controller years ago on some site.
It was the original concept design for the PS3 controller when they first announced the system. Fans had a fit and they went back to the DualShock design.

I would have had a fit as well, how could that possibly be a comfortable design.

Looking at it again if that design were stood on its side the underside would not get adequate air-flow. On the current console there is no vents on that side, for that exact reason. I'm thinking it is either an early prototype of the slim or someones impression of a quick glance at the real one.

Something I noticed the other day:
I was playing the best Need For Speed game ever (some of you may know it as Hot Pursuit), and something felt a bit off. The game originally played at 60 FPS when there was one other car on screen and the scenery wasn't getting too intense. When those conditions weren't met, it throttled down to 30 FPS relatively smoothly but still noticeably.
Well, I was playing around and I realized something super awesome: On the PS3, NFS III is locked at 60 FPS. Period. No matter what is happening on screen, or how many cars are shown. If I had known that, I literally would have bought a PS3 years ago.

Just a little tidbit of praises for Sony.

I'd take that controller in a heartbeat-the traditional PS controllers have been killing my hands for years-too small. I'd love it if they made a supersized version, how hard would that be? They would sell........

Well, second best. The best, and by some margin, was the original done in partnership with Road & Track. :D

I agree, eventhough Hot Pursuit was epic it cant beat the original NFS (I have the SE version and play it lots)... those point to point tracks are to die for and if EA remade it (like for some anniversary) I would be all over it like a rash!

Never underestimate Sony.

Stop making such phallic concept controllers Sony! :sly:

Holy shiza!

Its true ADSA in the UK has just annouced a £50 price cut for the PS3 bringing the 80GB plus 2 games bundle to £250 (may also be a sign that the slim is coming).

Robin.

And at GamesCom Sony present the PS3 Slim, on sale the first week of September.

All the same features "but slimmer". And a price cut too... "It will be available for 299 euros, 299 dollars and 29,980 yen."

I'm quite curious as to what Microsoft will do. I know that Sony just forced a price cut for the 360. But with Microsoft phasing out the Pro 360, supposedly raising the price of the useless 360 and cutting the price of the Elite, I don't know what to expect. I can't come up with any predictions that seem feasible.
