PS3 General Discussion

The last time I fooled around with my PlayStation 3, I noted my Friends List went AWOL. I didn't restart the system or anything like others suggested, but I felt a bit concerned that my Friends List was deleted or something. Some of those PSN friends are some of the fine folks here on GTPlanet. I am not sure what's up, but I'm hoping this gets resolved somehow.

On a different note, I added a new game to my PS3 collection- Infamous. It is actually a bundle pack which includes both "Infamous," "Infamous 2," and "Infamous: Festival of Blood." The reason why I held out on getting Infamous 2 is because when I saw one review for Infamous 2, someone suggested I play the first Infamous before playing the second one. I was fortunate to find this bundle pack which includes all this Infamous stuff. I haven't yet played this game, but I'll be sure to hopefully enjoy this experience when I do get to play around in the Infamous series.

[UPDATE] I logged back onto my PS3, and my friends list was there. InFamous is quite good after playing a few hours of the game.

I'm sure that sony is now aware of that problem and they fix it with next firmware update.

Ill hope that Second Son will be also great game. Not just bashing buttons but some decent story behind it.

I was just reading on the PS4 stuff, while PS4 can have up to 2K users the PS3 user list is getting an upgrade to 100 with an update that is set to launch around the PS4 launch.

Correct me if I am wrong but PS3 only can do 50 right now?

I don't have any first-person shooter in my PS3 collection. I've been doing my research on getting either a "Call of Duty," a "Battlefield," maybe even a "Medal of Honor," or what I have recently seen videos on- the Borderlands series. Part of me wants to get some sort of first-person shooter just to play and to say that I own and play. I seemed pretty sold on "Borderlands 2." Verbal spats about if the Call of Duty games or Battlefield games are better. And of course, just recently, "Battlefield 4" hit the market. I played "Call of Duty: Black Ops II" for the first-ever time back in September as I was mostly doing multiplayer-type action. I kind of got the hang of it after a while, but I'm still a complete newbie to any sort of modern first-person shooter. I'd be the first person to get shot in a deathmatch-type environment... and I'd be the one consistently getting owned by the competition.

I don't know... part of me kind of likes the Battlefield series more than the Call of Duty games. Maybe this was based on seeing videos on "Battlefield: Bad Company" and "Battlefield 3." So at least among the top two first-person shooters, I seem more sold somewhat on the Battlefield games. Or of course, my first FPS (as in first-person shooter- not "frames per second") could be Borderlands. So I'm weighing my options.

The PS3 has supported 100 friends for as long as I can remember and I've had mine since launch. It will be interesting to see how the Vita and PS3 will handle the PS4's massively increased friend limit.

I had 50 at one point and it said I couldn't add no more, and had to delete, So now I am down to 12 to hopefully not hit the limit.

Ok, something has been bugging me recently...
I have been reading in the PS4 thread that the PS3's latest update removed media streaming, yet how am I still able to stream media? Where did this rumor come from? Or do people mean the next PS3 update? Either way I can still stream both audio and video from either of my computers.

I have my first-ever first-person shooter for the PlayStation 3. I picked up "Borderlands 2." I haven't yet played the game. However, I seem pretty happy to get to play this game after doing my looking around online. Part of me wants to maybe look for some other titles. I'm thinking of Battlefield 3 in case I want to join the military-type first-person shooter realm.

The Playstation Network is currently down, which is fine......

BUT WHY CAN'T I USE YOUTUBE!!!!!!, STUPID THING NEEDS YOU TO SIGN INTO PSN!!!! AAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!!!!

That is only a rumor and it's not true. People think that if sony not implemented Media Server in PS4 they would probably remove it from PS3. As we can clearly see bee by still using it, it was false rumor.

Sony will put media server in PS4 so there is no need to remove it from PS3. Originally that was their plan to keep media server on PS3 and not put in PS4 which force customers to keep their PS3 and also this would keep current gen console on the market.

Finally got Plus. Lots of great games for free...slight problem...it takes FOREVER to download and install them. Heck Uncharted 3 is very close to 50GB in total. Actually, it's a little over with the multiplayer stuff, I think. So, if you have a slow internet, DON'T get plus. You'll spend your first month or so downloading and installing stuff.

Once i have PS4 ill purchase PSN+ and then ill can finally start platinum MGS series on PS3, first one to go is MGS2 HD. There is a serious discount for so many games.

It would appear that the PS4 launch might have done some damage to some of the apps....well, just one of them on the PS3. The Youtube app no longer works properly. Videos will play for a few seconds or minutes and then stop and freeze. It's really annoying for those of use who don't have computers that can run Youtube.

Yeah I noticed that with a few videos the other day, its very annoying. You can't do anything but restart the video.

I could have something to do with the extremely high traffic on PSN. My wife was using the YouTube app on PS3 just last night though and never complained about anything being wrong, she wasn't using it at peak times though either.

Well, except it's only effecting the Youtube App. Netflix works just fine. And it is possible that it would only affect some people. It's a Youtube issue, probably caused by them either working on a new PS4 app or something.

Just realized that GTA5 came out about 3 weeks from the PS4 launch and GT6 will launch about 3 weeks AFTER the PS4 launch...and GTA and GT are Sony's best selling franchises. GTA's not exclusive anymore, but still. There might not be anything there, but I don't know. It did seem rather odd that Rockstar would release a title for, what is now, previous gen consoles right before current gen relaunched. Not only that but then there was this mass exodus of next gen titles into 2014. Almost as if Sony had planned it from the beginning. Because, without next gen titles overshadowing it, PS3 might just destroy Xbox 360 in sales this year. Really, I doubt half of this is true, but it would be a rather clever scheme by Sony and Rockstar to help boost the sales of the only company actively pushing their previous gen consoles.

EDIT: Sony is probably trying to get the PS3 above 100 million units sold. If they can do that, they'll continue their streak of being the only company to have all it's consoles sell above 100 million units.)

I finally bit the bullet this week and bought a new drive for my 2008 40gb PS3 (fat). Simple reason: not enough space to install GT6. I went with a nice cheap 60gb SSD, since as long as I can fit GT5 and GT6 alongside each other I'm fine.

My verdict after a clean install was:
1. Zoiks, 25 patches to update GT5 to 2.15 all have to be downloaded one after the other, takes ages over 802.11g!
2. ##|%?{$~>%, !~^^#^^{$|> (translation: why didn't I do this years ago? GT5 load times seem to be generally 3-4 times faster, or effectively instant as long as the bluray doesn't have to load stuff.)
3. Minor panic when I couldn't find DLC car pack 1 to redownload on PSN, but my GT5 save contained the pack so no cars lost.

Yes, I have a best case update because it turns out that my 40GB fat was the only model they ever made with 2MB cache (instead of 8+MB) HDD with seek times in slower than 15ms. And a small drive will no doubt have become horribly fragmented with installs and uninstalls over the years. So even a modern HDD would have been a big improvement... But a modern SSD is a colossal improvement.

I look forward to enjoying my snappy revitalized PS3 for GT6 very soon :)

Anyone else having problems with PSN? None of my friends can join me in GTA Online and vice versa and I cannot join the private text chats. I keep getting an error 8002231D.

Hello guys I had this problem in afternoon. I go into ps store 5 minutes after i opened to search some games and when I go to specific category and I press back button to go back my ps3 completely frozen the screen lock up I press ps button but no response.after minute I tap the power button ps3 beeps 2 or three times i dont remember and close. after that I open it again ( I do all the updates)

Is this ps3 problem or psn just freeze and lock up system . I don't have issues in the past

Alright, so...PSN is crap. It's slow, it's glitchy, it's just awful. Let's hope PS4 fixes it.

On to game reviews:

NFS Most Wanted: Burnout Paradise + Need For Speed = NFS World. Seriously, though, I've literally just been driving around looking for all the jack spots and just doing that, I've beaten three of the Top Ten Most Wanted. So, it's a racing game that doesn't really encourage you to do any actual racing. Which is nice. And it's beautiful besides the NFS trademark, always wet pavement. It looks nice, but is it really necessary? So far 4/5.

Mass Effect 1: AKA Elevator Simulator 2007. Which, really, wouldn't be so bad if the elevators weren't the slowest things on the planet. Seriously, all this "advanced" technology and elevators the most useless things in the universe. I wish I had stairs 'cause I'd just use them 'cause it would be faster. The sad part is, I don't think that was ever really fixed. Normandy II still had loading screens between floors, which is slightly worse, actually.

Also, getting asked to do a side mission every three seconds is annoying. If you try to complete every mission before the main missions, you'd never complete the game. Took me a week to start in on the two main missions in the First Act. I think I'm just gonna speed run it ME1 so I can get to ME2. 'Cause what ME2 did is remove like 90% of the elevators and the running across the Citadel. 'Cause that happens in ME1, too. "Go to the commons and do this, now fly across the universe, come back, go to the commons again, then go to the tower, then across the universe again..." really? 3/5 thus far. And it's probably going to stay there.

[UPDATE] I had a problem with navigating through PlayStation Store, namely backing out of items I had seen previously. I had to remember to press Circle to go back to the previous menu. Initially, I kept pressing Triangle to back up. So PLEASE disregard this post. Thank you!

Yeah, I've been having some problems with PSN as well. Friends can't join my Dead Island game, a lot of things don't load in the PS Store (blank thumbnails), horrid load times in PS home...

My connection is as it's always been so I don't think that's the problem.

Boarderlands 2 and Grid 2 are going Free in December for Playstation Plus members.

Back to ME1...you know, with all the time between ME3 and the Trilogy, you'd think BioWare could've gone back and fixed some of the issues, maybe updated the engine. Nope. I'm having the exact same bugs and issues as I did with the 360 version. Heck, the stupid Qui'Lon glitch is still there. (This is a glitch where, if you don't get the ticket for the tram on Noveria through him, the mission to talk to him won't go away, but you can't actually talk to him.) Normally, I might play through as Evil Shepard, but I don't know, I kinda just wanna be done with ME1.

- PS3 hardly reads discs anymore
- been through 4 faulty Sony USB cables
- the whole hacked credit card scare thing
- expensive Pulse headset cracked at the housing from normal, careful use
- expensive Pulse headset now refuses to read any USB cable and is completely dead because I can't recharge it

Tired of this garbage. Already said hell with getting a PS4 and I'm really going to start avoiding Sony products whenever possible.

Recently, I've gotten myself to play Grand Theft Auto IV again after being very disappointed playing it previously. I only completed a few missions when I first played it. The latest Save game before recently geting back into playing this game was dated some time back in September 2011. I started playing a few more missions and became a bit more pleased playing this game than I had been previously. Because of my recent playing of GTA4, I am somewhat considering getting the two extra GTA4 games: "The Lost and Damned" and "The Ballad of Gay Tony." It has even kind of gotten me into maybe looking into "Grand Theft Auto V" down the road.

Let me sort of set the tone for anyone who may be reading my posts regarding GTA4. I bought GTA4 some time back in September 2011. I played a few missions trying to get accustomed to it. Sadly, it didn't really click with me. So I moved on to the Saints Row series. I bought Saints Row 2, and the fun I thought was missing from GTA4 was there in abundance in SR2. I eventually completed SR2's story. I then got "Saints Row: The Third" and "Saints Row IV" in my time. I've been so used to the Saints Row games. Despite all of this, it's been only earlier this week that I returned to GTA4 after my tours of duty playing through most of both SR3 and SR4. So more than two years later, I'm back to GTA4, and I am now playing GTA4 with some sort of happiness and value than how I tried to get into GTA4 two years ago.

This has been what's up with me lately with my PS3 adventures. I'm sure a lot of you GTA fans will probably recommend me get any of the aforementioned games.
