PS3 General Discussion

ok, i´m not gonna argue with major nelson. i should have known better. PD lied, the media lied, experts lied, GT4 is really a small game. even if the game fits in a CD, who in their right mind is opposed to having more space? just doesn´t make sense

read carefully below

Edit: Okay, I've done more research. GT4 is bigger than a DVD 5, but it unpack at a size of 5.23 GB. So the justification of not being close to 8GB. Without the video, it easily fit into a DVD5.

It doesn't come close to 8GB

Then how come everyone (Polyphony Digital, the media, blah blah blah) said it nearly filled the disc?

Might be cause none had the equipment to properly rip the game during that time & it was impossible to check. Media are full of lie. Like the this pic

It was made by microsoft PR.
The Xbox 360 GPU has more processing power than the PS3's. In addition, its innovated features contribute to overall rendering performance.
microsofts-xbox-360-vs-sonys-playstation-3-20050520041725628.jpg

That's just frame buffer & not overall rendering. I don't always believe media as they think. That pic is an exemple as a huge lie & I took the xbox 360 as an example just for you guys cause I know you all hate my machine. :sly:

HUGE LIE, HUGE LIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've seen people ripping that game into a DVD5 & it doesn't even fill the disk. :sly:

huge idiot, huge idiot!!!

All of the illegal copys to not include any intro/eding video, they don't include half of the soundtrack, and the games are very *very* partial in their car lists.

Pirated copy's = portions of the original game. When ripped, it does not inclued all of the content in the retail version of GT4.

LEARN. READ. EDUCATE. THEN YOU CAN SPEAK MR DEAP!!! :)

Have a nice day :) ;)

and even pirates, most copies sold here are in DVD-9. it took 3 months here in brazil before they start selling pirate copies. they couldn´t fit in a cheaper single layer DVD... its a shame i don´t have a pirate copy of GT4, so i could put in my DVD drive to see all the files that would show up...

yeah the illegal version with the portion is 3GB the retail is around 5.2GB. it's bigger than a DVD 5.

Well who cares how big GT4 was ? Fact is, that you never can have enough space, so BDR is great. Do we need it ? I don't know, probably yes.

The retail is not 5.2. You cannot rip the rest of the information, much of it is missing. it is MORE than 5.2.
This is correct, there is more than 5.2GB of data on the GT4 disk. There was some confusion over how much disk space GT4 took a long time ago that was discussed in the GT4 section of the site.

Microsoft cannot know about the memory, because they know nothing about the meaning of bugs and glitches in there operating systems. Plus I read vertex and pixel shaders help out more then memory and clock speeds.

there´s one thing i forgot. quality. as i speak, i have a CD with the movie silent hill.

yes, a CD.

my friend got one at filewarez because the movie is not out yet in our town. its a ripped file, compressed and stuff. takes less than 700 mega... all movies that you rent come in a DVD-9. if you want to rip them, you can compress and put it into a normal DVD. if you really compress, it fits a CD.

but of course, the quality is not the same. certainly not HD.

and this aplies to GT4. if you try to rip the GT4 disk, it will show 2 files, the iso of 4 gigs and other file of 1 gig. still, that´s not all the info needed, that´s why most of the first pirate copies had bugs, crashed, or didn´t had the whole game in it. trust me, piracy is big here. GT4 took a lot of time to get to the market because it wasen´t so simple to rip the DVD and make it work 100%. that´s why pirate copies today are in DVD9. they realised that they couldn´t compress something that was already tight.

and what does all of that have to do with the PS3 and this thread?

a lot. its about quality, and i think this is what we´re going for in this next gen. i can have silent hill, the same version as the one that later on will be released in BD, in a single CD.

but does it have the same quality?

of course not.

technology evolves and with this, we discover many ways to compress data without losing much of quality. still, we have to reasonable, tech still didn´t found a way to put HD content into a single CD.

that´s why micro$oft was heavily critisized for lauching the 360 with DVD. because they wanted the pole position, not worring about the race. they wanted to be first in the market, and they released the console before the BD x HD-DVD thing was set. they didn´t wanted to pay royaties to sony and didn´t wanted to wait on HD-DVD. then they shoot themselves in the foot launching a brand new console with an old media storage.

so its fine, as long as you don´t really care about quality, to have things compressed and missing things... but then again, i don´t think this is what next gen is all about...

Tell me what I popped inside my DVD reader?

OH YEAH, OH YEAH?

GT4 man!

It's a backup software. if you don't believe me, just try it. that's the right number of the real size content inside the DVD. :sly:

And this was all covered in the GT4 topic many moons ago, GT4 does take up more that 5.2GB of data, you just don't see all of it without using certain techniques none of which I'm familiar with but which were explained in the past and worked. If you want more specific answers than that though Mr Deap you'll have to search for them, but they are there and unless your willing to seek them out I don't think you need to comment on this any further.

The GT4-DVD is difficult to handle for many programs due to its double-layered nature. If I remember correctly, the first layer is 4.x GB, and the second is another 2.x GB. I'll check when I'm home today and post it here.

Backup software don't lie. :sly:

Guy's, don't even bother. I mean, why should we waste our time because he's in denial? We all covered this ages ago, it's been talked about amongst people who have tried and tried to get it to run on HDLoader, tried and tried to copy it, and it has been one of the hardest games to pirate, because of it's awkward nature and all the data that is "left behind" when it's ripped.

Just let him live in that fantasy world of the "obvious" and we can all continue on with our reasonable debate. The less we reply to him, hopefully, the less he will post.

edit: to make a somewhat useless post usefull, you can see a full retail version (video) of the PS3, they talk about features etc. Pretty nice looking if you ask me, just look for "Full Retail Unit Walkthrough"

That's a great idea, but wouldn't using a single HD-DVD disc be better?
The HD-DVD drive can't play HD-DVD based games, Microsoft said. Only video and audio HD-DVD discs. Which is perfect in this case.
live4speed
No, that wouldn't work. Also you'd have the console trying to decode data from two disks instead of one and deconding it in synch esopecially which would harm the consoles performance.
In theory. But remember, using two forms of media simultaneously has worked before ( the one time it was used), and it would also depend on how MS and Bungie would design the game if they were to try. And you have to admit: It wouldn't be surprising for MS to do something so underhanded. And it would allow for more game without multiple discs for you to switch out and around.

Sales for any game that featured this would be terrible. It has zero chance of ever happening, and even in theory, is a terrible business choice.

That video, showing the console outside of the case was great, but it’s funny how the person has to wear gloves.

I wouldn't be so sure of that (that being said, I know it won't happen. But speaking theoretically). All Microsoft would have to say would be "Required for Halo 3" and they would sell every HD-DVD drive they could possibly make. And it is Microsoft, so would you really (theoretically) put it past them?

I won't ignore Mr Deap, as there isn't much to deny here, because we're talking about hard facts.

I have three versions of GT4 on my hdd (of course, I ripped them by myself and am in possession of all original discs).

PAL: 5.27GB
US-NTSC: 4,94GB
JP-NTSC: 6,16GB

As you can see, they all don't use the full space of a DVD9, but need one at the same time, because they are too large for a DVD5.

And what does the fact that there is a 1.2gb difference in file size tell you? Nor does that disprove that there is data that has been put onto the DVD that's encoded in such a way that you can't rip it off or read it nearly as easilly as the rest of the data.
