Surprisingly the design is confirmed by a PS5 insider.

So expect that fancy futuristic console to hit shelves next year.

Nope. Sony makes these for developers so when they show it off it creates interest. Then Sony release the real console and it looks ordinary.

So one "rumored" difference between the PS5 and Pro will be the storage.
One say that the regular will offer a standard 2.5" SSD while the Pro will offer a PCIe 4.0 SSD

While not likely to maybe see that happen but it could be where they both use PCIe 4 but difference would be 256/512 GB normal or 1-2 TB for pro.

Second it has been confirmed to use 8C/16T chip based on the new Zen 2 AMD core.

So it'll be interesting to see how it all comes out.

No thanks to wireless charging if it meant eliminating the cord+port. I sit in front of my consoles as if they were PCs -- I sometimes get wireless interference that is solved by hooking controllers to their cord, and I really only ever disconnect them from their cord to cycle the batteries a bit so their battery life doesn't deteriorate so much. Wireless-only would be dumb. 👎

I highly doubt that they would cut the cable, for the simple fact that you would have to quit playing if the battery died. No, I don't think that would pass QA testing. Id put real good money on it just being a feature rather than the sole way of charging.

You're talking sense, but with the way technology "innovations" go these days I'm not so sure. :P

I also made the comment because there appears to not be a charging port in the hypothetical render.

I never look at my controller, nor do I want to. A screen on it will just be a waste of battery life.

I almost never use my controller's batteries, nor do I want to. A battery and wireless transmitter are practically a waste of internal space and cost. ;)

I rather liked the second screen on the Wii U, even for (or maybe especially for) mundane purposes like having your map or inventory at all times without pausing the action or waiting for a screen transition. The idea works much better in a context like the DS/3DS, but it's not without value on the big screen.

Different strokes for different folks.
I like not having a cord in the way, and I'm a good 15ft from my console, so that would have to be one hell of a long cord. No thanks.

My point likewise. :)

With USB connectors on all the controllers now, the console isn't needed to charge the battery. The only advantage in connecting to the console is option of wired communication, for when it makes a difference, as I mentioned earlier above.
