Sorry, that was actually a vital aspect of the tuning I failed to mention earlier on. We're definitely using those guidelines for spec'ing the cars out. We're doing the same with the Le Mans league CALM so inspections go a lot more smoothly before races.

Great list of factors there John, thanks for your invaluable input so far just the same for every one 👍

This is my take on the car specs.
I believe that the wsgtc3 car specs should stand as they are. We should include these 7 cars from wsgtc3;

Toyota Wedssport Celica '03
RE AMEMIYA RX7 ' 06
Autobacs Arta Garaiya '03
Autobacs Arta Garaiya '08
Cusco Advan Impreza ' 08
Cusco Advan Impreza '03
Lexus Wedssport IS350 '08

To make sure the series keeps its identity as a GT300 championship, we should limit the cars to 10 cars. That would mean we need to add 3 cars that meet the criteria mentioned by Johan and Dom. The DTM's look promising, so does the BMW and FTO.
Of course these are just my thoughts.
Sorry I haven't been able to help with the testing at the moment, my little boy has come down with scarlet fever. Great job all.

Just checking in guys. Been pretty busy the past week but I'll be around from now on.

BTW nice times on GT Academy Eddie.

hah, thanks Justin, hope you can.

But I'd just like to mention here, while the thread's still young, that the idea of this series was all manifested from the brain of the extremely respectful organizer and all around great role model PURE Core member Dave, Twistedfirework.

This series is his baby, I'm just the greasy talent agent that he hired to raise a star :).

But I also have to mention that this series is really a special time and place in that it's the sort of project, very much so similar to JGTS, that because of the drivers and character here, pretty well runs itself. So any input, request, opinion, suggestion, is taken just as seriously from anyone here as it would be coming from a boss. This is all your series as much as it is ours.

That's why you were all picked.

Thanks 👍

thanks Ed, all of the credit must go to you. i only had the idea, i am thrilled that you are commiting so much time and effort to my idea.
i may at some point in the future add GATE co-founder to my signature though. (when i figure out how to do it, lol) :sly:

Just download the demo yourself, it'll show you the positions of all of your friends and such. Anyone in the world pretty much can have it to play at least the first few rounds.

The news article from yesterday had a link to PD's site where it lists the top 250 in each stage. But if you login with your PSN account info, you can view your results, and the few people around you.

Sorry for the OT, back to watching eagerly from the stands! Great series this is shaping up to be, Eddie. 👍

Great points and nicely put. I like to add two more items to set the boundaries for any new car added. The items would be, including what CSLACR propoposed.

Boundaries for any new car added:
- HP range. 315-355BHP (in increments of 10)
- Weight range. 1100-1200KG (in increments of 10)
- Not a higher topspeed than the Asparadrink RX7
- Not a better power-to-weight ratio than the Lexus Weds Sport (3.18 Kg/BHP)

The reason for the last two is to make overtaking possible. As an example, if a car has a higher straight line speed than the RX7, its going to be very difficult for the slowest car to make a pass. Same goes for the power-to-weight, ie acceleration.

Wardez,
If you agree to this, it would be great if you could state it so we all know what boundaries to play with.
I had forgotten that, 2 more good points. The only thing I would say there is that in GT5, power to weight really doesn't mean squat, unfortunately.

I would go for 1/4 mile trap speed, or something of that type to measure acceleration, as it's the only definitive measure we really have. Possibly pitting the cars side-by-side on track would also work.

But the basic idea, we could simplify like this: Any new car cannot have lesser or greater abilities (or numbers, hp, wt, etc) in any area than any existing WSGTC 3 car.

BTW - We should add 5KG to the cars with 1125 and 1175KG's, imo for all the obvious reasons. *cough* WSGTC 3 showed us why.

I used T3 at the exit of NASCAR 2 at Daytona road to measure acceleration and the top speed entering turn 1 braking point. All of the cars in spec B reached 144-145 mph at T3 and 157-160 top speed.I used the Lexus IS350 as my baseline along with the season 3 specs.

There is no success ballast so why do cars need weight checks? I would only add weight to any cars if its the last tuning option left.

it's not letting me install it :(

So I see you guys are comparing acceleration and top speeds. Has anyone used the features of the last dlc? I could do this, if it's relevant, at the test course tomorrow unless someone beats me to it.

Are you guys doing all testing online (I'm assuming so)? Why not compare these cars at the test course? There's plenty of straights and markers to measure speeds at.

I have stuck with tracks we race because its a more realistic test of the cars. The speed measurements are just one part of the overall test.

Maybe a 50-160 mph speed test would reveal something?

Maybe. We should try it. I'll be logging on tomorrow. I'll have to fr a few of you, or vise versa.

I think the test track would be a great indicator of potential discrepencies. Lapping can mask speed differences one way or the other through slight errors and unrealisticly great runs. The test track's ability to measure acceleration at different points would be very useful and repeatable. I believe its the best indication of the differences between each car. But either way doesn't hurt to confirm through both.

Also, its still important to have some differences between cars otherwise we'll have a spec series where we would all be driving the same car. The point is to weed out the large advantages and disadvantages if I read in to the intent correctly.

It can give a false positive of sorts though... it doesn't account for cornering ability and therefore apex speed, or traction and ability to get back on the throttle in exits. The FTO has better acceleration than the IS350 for example but the understeer means you can't carry as much speed into a corner and can't get on the throttle as fast, so in most exits the IS350 seems to have better acceleration than the FTO. It takes a very long straight before the FTO can gain advantage.

I might tag along im starting to regret doing Toca over this for the first 3 weeks :ouch:. Hopefully this gets pushed back a few weeks so I can do more races ;).

Looks like we may alternate between CALM and GATE testing, Pag is just getting a room up now.

Ill be there on my main if you make a room. (No cars on GTP )

I'm in the Pure lounge now.

This is the test I am trying.
50 mph rolling start from the 1000m sign
recording speeds at 2000m and 3000m

gearing for most cars top speed 177
