I just thought of something... What about inviting Forcednduckshn? Wardez, you know him like me, that is well enough to vouch for him right?
Has anyone tried to run straight line speed tests with and without DF after the spec 2.0 update? Because if things remained the same then there is no point in running non-maxxed out DF settings as there is no significant(if any) speed gain.
There is still one reason to consider running less than max DF. Car balance. On some tracks the cars can be better balanced with non-maximum rear downforce. I seem to recall Laguna Seca in an NSX (or Garaiya) being an excellent example of this..

I have done some serious km racing the ADVAN GTR in other championships and i can guarantee you that with 9bhp more than the other GTR's it will not be on par at any track. It has the same amount of grip of the other GTR's on the front but less on the rear and that makes it more difficult to drive and also less tuneable. Therefore i would suggest either banning it (plus the other 2 weird cars, ENEOS,BANDAI) or do some very thorough tests in order to finalize their specs on a good level (impossible IMO, considering all the performance parameteres).
I'm going to go check it out quick... See what we have. The update tomorrow brings us this:
"[Car Restrictions], [Performance Points], [Power], and [Car Model] regulations will be possible to set simultaneously."
We have nothing to worry about, this is awesome.
Btw, does anyone know if the FFB in GT5 has been increased in strength over the past few months? It sure seems like there's a lot more FFB strength than there used to be. And unfortunately I still have too much FFB atm with my G27 @ 1![]()
Well, it's exactly that."[Car Restrictions], [Performance Points], [Power], and [Car Model] regulations will be possible to set simultaneously."
Wardez: I'm planning a trip with some friends to Vegas.. Dec 21st-Dec 30th..
Question 1: What's the weather like?

Interesting, T. Do you think the ADVAN GTR is lacking in mechanical grip in the rear, or is it simply an aero related deficiency? If it's aero related I'd imagine putting a restriction on the quicker GT-R's (YH, Calsonic, Xanavi, etc.) rear aero would probably solve this to a good degree. Of course that would makes those cars more difficult to drive (but maybe a bit more fun for some), but then again they are already much easier to drive than a lot of the other GT500 cars, which initself is quite an advantage in a long race where consistancy is key.
Hmm, might see you out there. We usually visit my wife's family out there around Christmas time. The last few have been cold and windy. Might even get lucky and see some snow.
Turbo and many others have noted a difference in wheel "feel" since 2.0. Its hard for me to tell, because I sent back a bad wheel pre update, and got the new one post update. But most of the comments are related to feel rather than strength of feedback. Hmm, not sure, but you might have a stronger G27 than me. I ran some rally's and turned the ffb to 1. Forgot to change it back to my normal 7 and went to Spa. It felt so loose and non-existent to me.
Want to trade wheels?(yours always seems so fast........... maybe its driver related 💡)
It's tough to say. As you know, in GT5 , rear aero doesn't only increase stability and grip through mid-high speed corners but it also has an unreasonably big impact on the way the car exits a mid-low speed corner. It is almost like the aero physics don't calculate the speed of the car while adding grip.
In the ADVAN, you will notice the difference in rear grip with the other GT-R's mainly while exiting mid-low speed corners. Which IRL would suggest less mechanical rear grip, but in GT5 ''feels'' like less rear DF. Another fact is that the tail is loose but not snappy or uncontrollable, it gradually steps out. Something that also suggests that it has less rear DF.
So, as you said, running the other GT-R's with a 50-55(needs testing) max rear DF would probably be the best way to level the GT-R field. It's a very cool move IMO and it just adds a bit of extra work to tweak the specs of the rest of the cars.
We could also accumulate the grip problems that the NSX's have in this system. Putting a rear DF roof on all the cars except the NSX's, making it for example 48 for GTR's, 55 for SC430's etc. This way the field will be genuinly even as you won't have to add power to compensate for handling and therefore avoid having NSX's dominate high speed tracks and the other way around. It's a lot of work and it might just not work out as good as it seems but it's worth a try.
PS. Good to see you B. Nice pic.
Yea, I don't know what the problem is. Maybe I could try adjusting the FFB through the logitech profiler on my PC, although I think the profiler only has an affect on the FFB settings while playing a game on the PC unfortuantely (i.e. their is no internal storage device inside the wheel that would store these settings for a console game afaik).
Couple things, firstly, did you add weight to the Stealth models for this?I just finished a aero drag test at Spa and learned a few interesting things.
The settings for the test
Online lounge,grip real,tire wear on
Default suspension,lsd,trans,and race hard tires.
Aero max followed by a run with aero min.
Procedure i used.
Exit the pits and carefully drive (to keep tires cool) to the top of Eau Rouge and do a U-turn.I park the car at the end of the FIA red/white curbing on the left side of the track (normal track direction).I use bumper cam so i can line up the edge of the curb on the bottom right side of the tv screen.
Set the parking brake, car in 6th gear (shouldnt matter but i did the same for all).
Release the brake and coast back toward the pits following the racing line as close as possible with a minimum of steering inputs.I stay off the curbs to reduce the chance of speed loss. All of the GT500 cars i tested reached 46 mph and stopped near the same starting grid box-but not exactly.
The reason this shows the effect of the wing settings is that the car will roll almost a car length farther with the wings set to the minimum settings compared to max.Less wing = less drag
Results.
I tested all four 08 GT-R's and they results show that they are all equal in aero drag/downforce.The Clarion stopped in the exactly same spot as the Xanavi,Calsonic, and Yellow Hat with both min and max aero. There was however one GT-R that didnt stop in the same spot, the Stealth GT-R acutually stopped shorter than the rest. The feel of the Stealth when hot lapping is that it has more grip (to me anyway) and this result seems to show that it has a downforce advantage.
I then tested the Raybrig NSX and the Stealth NSX.The aero advantage the Raybrig has compared to the GT-R is huge,it actually went farther with max aero than the GT-R did with minimum aero. The Stealth NSX stopped about half a car length shorter than the Raybrig
I then tested a car that is very close in top speed as the NSX's-the 03 Woodone Supra and it stopped in virtually the same place as the Raybrig.
Next up were the Denso and Toms's Lexus. They were both equal and stopped almost a half a car length behind the GT-R.I then tried the 06 Bandai and found that even with only 35-60 aero it stopped shorter than the 08's with 40-65 aero.
The one suprise here is the 97 Supra.Even though it has 50-70 aero it stopped just short of the 03 Supra, which only has 35-60 aero.
Conclusions
The tire model for the Woodone Clarion is bad.Its the only one on Yokohama tires, the rest are on Bridestones. There are also slight handling differences between the Denso and Toms Lexus but they are not bad differences. The Denso uses Dunlop's and the Toms is a Bridgestone car.
Solutions
Since its not possible to set the rooms based on downforce settings there is no way to get these cars 100% equal. The NSX will always be the fastest on the straights.Adding ballast to the front will help with the handling issues but limiting its HP too much will slow it down for the entire lap.
Im not sure if there is a magic setup that will fix the Clarion. The exit oversteer make this car almost impossible to drive with a DS3.Maybe adding some ballast and moving it around can make this car better?
The Stealth cars are either superior in downforce or they are not efficient enough.I suspect there have a downforce advantage but i dont have the lap times to back that up.
I know this isnt a perfect test but since we dont have access to a wind tunnel this will have to do.
To be honest, I think the easiest form of testing is lapping each car, we know the Denso/Petronas SC430's and most GTR's are all but dead even with each other, along with the Xanavi Nismo Z and Tom's 97 Supra.Good call on the GT-R Stealth,i had the weight added in my "A" setup but i was using "C" for this and it was 1050.With the weight at 1100 the Stealth is the same as the other GT-R's.Maybe it felt better to me because its new and special,i dont know.50 kg seems to make a huge difference in inertia.I'm not even going to try and figure that one out...
I went back and checked the NSX's.The Stealth is 1100 and is a few feet shorter in its run than the Raybrig and Takata. Its is on Dunlops but unless they are wider i doubt thats the reason.
I also bought a Eneos to try and found its problem is not the tires but its aero.It is on Bridgestones like the Toms but it went farther than either of the other Lexus 08's.
The YMS Supra at 1100kg beats the NSX's by almost a full car length.
The 97 Supra is already 1150kg so the added downforce is the trade-off for more tire wear most likely.
A Denso SC430 with the wings set to 20-35 finishes in exactly the same spot on the grid as a GT-R with the wings at 40-65.I dont think that taking 5-5 off the 40-65 cars will make much if any difference.
I can tell you at 1150kg, stock using limiter, the Stealth GTR can easily be on par with others, that's no problem.👍Awesome test results! 👍
I'm in the middle of testing the cars out as well.
Let's just say that I'm going in the same direction as you guys.
My tests are not final, but this is roughly what I'm working with right now as far as DF and weight goes..
AUTECH MOTUL GT-R: 1150 kg, Full DF
XANAVI NISMO GT-R: 1150 kg, Full DF
YELLOWHAT YMS TOMICA GT-R: 1150 kg, Full DF
CALSONIC IMPUL GT-R: 1150 kg, Full DF
WOODONE ADVAN CLARION GT-R: 1130 kg, Full DF (This one is hard to get om par, but I'm actually getting closer. Details later)
XANAVI NISMO Z: 1150 kg, Full DF
CASTROL TOM'S SUPRA: 1150 kg, 40/65 DF
TAKATA DOME NSX: 1130 kg, Full DF
RAYBRIG NSX: 1130 kg, Full DF
ARTA NSX: 1130 kg, Full DF
EPSON NSX: 1180 kg, Full DF
DENSO DUNLOP SC430: 1150 kg, Full DF
PETRONAS TOM'S SC430: 1150 kg, Full DF
YELLOWHAT SUPRA: 1130 kg, Full DF
BANDAI DIREZZA SC430: Not yet tested
ENEOS SC430: Not yet tested
STEALTH GT500 NSX; Not yet tested (how do I get hold of one?)
STEALTH GT500 GT-R: Not yet tested (how do I get hold of one?)
Comments:
1. The extra weight for the YELLOWHAT SUPRA might seem strange, but the handling is improved a lot, so all in all, it does the car good.
2. Extra 20 kg for the GT-R's (exept WOODONE), the DENSO/PETRONAS and the Z is to further slow the cornering speeds. It's looking good so far during tests.
3. The limited allowed aero (40/65 instead of 50/70) for the CASTROL TOM'S SUPRA does it's job perfectly. It's now even with the DENSO/PETRONAS, Z and GT-R's in aero and weight. The powerful Engine need to be downtuned (details later).
4. What seems to be a lot of heavy load for the EPSON NSX is actually doing the handling really good. I'm almost sertain I'll get it on par with the others. 👍
I don't want to rule out any car already. But some are close to be imo. I just need to finalize my test before I state this or that.
Keep up the good work guys!
Thanks mate!!! Did I do the sign up right? I don't want to look like I'm completly stupid. Only a little bit... LoLz
