Finally managed to connect to GT5's server, but I still can't connect to the room. Its not my internet as everything else is work perfectly fine. I'm going to try resetting my internet but if that doesn't work then I give up

Wow, just got the black screen of death for the umpteenth time this weekend and I wasn't trying to get a car on track, just tried spectating.. Wish I knew what caused it. This was the same reason I had to drop out as host for the pre-season.

I had it too when I went spectating, at the same time as you. Perhaps this triggers it? That multiple players enter track/spectating at the same tenth of a second. Or just a random bug. First time I have seen in a good while.
