Purists racing in cockpit view vs exterior views

Got inspired and jumped on GT for a quick burst.
Went for Gr.3 around Interlagos.

I know this isn't an earth shattering time, but did it in a 1:36.6.
Now I'm not sure what classifies as "slow", but that's probably quick enough to exclude me from that category.

Chase cam, of course.
And just to really upset the "purists", I decided to run it in the Beetle. :P

I really want to go onto @jasguer site to compare times as I too use chase cam, but it won’t load! :banghead:

1:32.964 in an itasha livery Beetle using chase cam with TC 2, CSA Strong, Brake Marker, and all driving line assists on
1 and a half seconds off the pace from the Top 10 currently

Surely this is as crappy as a 🤬 post can get, right?:lol::lol:

What track? I want to try

Nice work. 👍

I just got bumped from the top 10 by 3/100ths.
Lost a bit of time after the last hairpin because I had to drop the throttle around the sweeping left hander heading for the last corner bottom of the hill, so there's a tenth or 2 more there to be had.

Beetles rock. :)

Stay on topic perhaps?

I raced exclusively in cockpit view back in GT5. Since they removed the option of adjusting the FOV It has become useless in my setup.

Perhaps if people didn't suggest claims such as chase cam is slow, which then prompts other people to give current examples of the latest race using what would be considered a slow car and yet still hitting a good lap time while using chase cam.

Since you've not provided a cockpit reference lap I think that post is more suited here.

Cockpit view and no assist 1:34.810

Chase cam with TC 2 and CSA weak 1:32.690

With the beetle. My first time ever driving it.

Of course I going into this that I'm not faster than the others posting before me. But still not bad.

Why would I provide a cockpit lap?
I use chase cam.

It's clearly a response to the post that claimed chase cam is a joke, you can't see the front of your car, you bump into people, and it's slow.
Nothing more.

If you want empirical evidence, you're asking the wrong guy.
You need someone just as proficient using both views.
Happy hunting.

Chase cam is no better or worse than any of the other exterior views...it's just easier and quicker.

Fast times set with exterior views don't impress me, but it is good to see some of the youtube guys who are fast, using cockpit view.

Is the Beetle the go to car for Interlagos today then?

Haven't used it for around a month lol

Same and same

Loaded.... 1.31.726!

I use exclusively cockpit view, it has its draw backs but for me it’s the only view I like, it’s a racing game I want to be in the car. Can’t get the same experience sat on the bonnet and bumper cam is just not for me.

Do the other views have an advantage over cockpit view, probably, I have never seen any of the top guys using it. But I’m not sure I care too much what view someone else uses, I get my enjoyment from cockpit view, if some enjoys the game in chase, bonnet, bumper view that’s up to them, they paid their money the same as I did so it’s up to the individual how they choose to enjoy the game.

Same goes for assists, it’s a game to be enjoyed and whatever they want to use that’s fine with me.

As a reference I use cockpit view, with no assists apart from abs.

Interlagos GR3 usually set a 1.31.4
Brands GR3 (fia race today) 1.23.2

Haha nah, it's only to frustrate the people who loathe the overused-in-lobbies Beetle
The meta for Asia is a mix of 911s, R.S. 01s, and surprisingly 2 650S
Bastard! I thought I had you.

Half way there... group 3 I always use TCS 2 and for everything always chase cam.

Still, happy to only be 0.3 off you :)
I bow down to you :bowdown::bowdown:
There's no way I can do those times with TC 2 and chase cam!

Agreed but that's where an option to lock the cockpit view in private lobbies would work. It's fine if you don't mind being narrowly beaten by someone who is using a faster view, but really we want a level playing field particularly in private lobbies. We can disable the driver aids but we can't limit the view at the moment.

Oh, and AT

I tried bumper cam as everyone good seems to use it, but it just made me feel sick/queasy! I guess after 20 years of chase cam, I am a committed chase cammer now...

I much rather play cockpit view as well and have been before fuel management came into play. The problem is the lack of a rearview mirro in most cars and no virtual mirror. When i drove cockpit i sticked to cars that had useable mirrors and in combination with radar and buttons for looking left and right that was fine even though that meant i was limited on cars. But when they added fuel management i couldnt use radar properly anymore it started to effect my driving and i switched to bumper cam then.

Pace wise i dont think it makes much of a difference its just what youre used to. The lack of rear mirror is a disadvantage though. If they finally added a virtual mirror to all views i'd might switch back.

One more bow

I've used bumper since GT2, so I can say the same for chase cam
