Chinese auto brand Qoros will make its public debut at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show next March.

Established four years ago through an equal partnership between Chery and Israel Corporation (a global industrial holding firm), Qoros promises to focus on “state-of-the-art technology with high levels of user-friendly in-car connectivity and vehicle safety standards”. It targets young buyers in China and Europe and plans an initial production capacity of 150,000 units, rising to a maximum output of 450,000 cars.

Their first model will be a compact four-door sedan previewed in these sketches. Adopting European-inspired styling, the sedan is scheduled to make its public debut in March at the Geneva Motor Show. Qoros plans to sell this model starting in late 2013 in China, followed by Europe in early 2014.
Reflecting "shapes and elements of modern German automobile design", the compact sedan has a vertically slotted radiator grille that forms an isosceles trapezoid with the second chrome bar in the lower air duct. Inside the cabin we notice a minimalistic design with a built-in 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system.

Unlike most Chinese automakers, Qoros has set an objective to engineer all cars to receive maximum NCAP crash ratings.

They seem to be going for a VAG vibe in general - that sedan in side-profile looks very much like some Skodas.

Yeah, the side profile of that sedan reminds me a lot of the Skoda Superb.

It'll be interesting to see what they come out with though, it looks like they might be the first chinese car manufacturer to not make a horrible rip-off...

Wake me when there's an actual automobile to show. Good luck, anyhow.

Hildebrand is, or was, the chief of design of Mini. He's responsible for the bigger Mini fleet with the Clubman etc. He also designed the Golf Mk III.

This is promising, although the cars are indeed looking like an Audi/VW mix.
But it's a start.

Looks to me like Audi R8 front, Audi S4 (I think that's the saloon one?) side and VW Passat lights.

So ... they won't be made of asbestos, then?

Qoros? Almost sounds like a racing team from WipEout (almost like a combination of Qirex and Toros). I look at some of the designs and can't help but think Volkswagen-Audi inspired cars. The third picture from the first post sort of reminds me of a car SEAT would design. Here is my one question- will their cars get MUCH better crash ratings than what most other Chinese cars racked up (meaning anything from getting 1 out of 5 stars or even 0 out of 5 star ratings)?

Best of luck to this company.

The cars look like a mix a between VW, Audi and Skoda
I see a few similar design elements between the cars, it's not that bad that it looks like a exact copy of the cars.

Qoros flagship concept hints at the company's future
here's our first look at what a possible flagship could be like.

Created by Jamie Barrett in cooperation with the new Chinese auto maker, the concept was designed to show that the company can do “something fresh but with strong ties to the brand’s design philosophy.” As such, the model is a sporty coupe with dynamic lines and layered surfaces which push Qoros' design philosophy to "new limits.”

The model isn't slated for production, but we could be seeing more of Barrett's designs in the future as recently landed a gig at Qoros.

MORE PICS

It looks like a mix of a Audi R8, Nissan GT-R , Koenigsegg Agera, and Aston Martin.

Screams GT by Citroen-lite to me.

Not to say that's a bad thing. Very handsome car. 👍

Well, it does look pretty good for a 1:8th scale model.

They've got the right guy in the design department, but my concern is this is being headed by Chery... One of the majors that takes the most shortcuts in both design and engineering. Even if it looks good, they'll need to do a lot of work to convince buyers this isn't just a Chery in a pretty wrapper.

Qoros previews sporty compact SUV
Qoros has released a clip previewing a future sporty compact SUV.

The HQ3 Cross will ride on the sedan's platform that was developed in collaboration with Austrian firm Magna Steyr. It is expected to be 4.6 meters (181 inches) long and could possibly get a 4-cylinder, 1.6-liter TGDI engine that was co-developed with Chery. This power unit will be connected to a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 6-speed dual-clutch unit.

The first model to be launched by Qoros will be the GQ3 sedan which will go on sale in late 2013 in China, followed by Europe in early 2014. It will be 4.7 meters (185 inches) long, 1.8 meters (70.8 inches) wide and 1.42 meters (55.9 inches) tall, with a wheelbase of 2.7 meters (106.2 inches). The sedan along with all upcoming Qoros models will be engineered to get maximum NCAP crash ratings.

Qoros says that in 2015 they will launch a performance SUV by the name of XQ3 that will be 4.8 meters long.

Not sure why is has Fiat 500 alloys but its looking pretty nice, its all very VW which can't be a bad thing but they are going to have to really try to keep the brand 'luxury' because it might start to just look like a Skoda competitor.

Looking at it again it reminds me of a Mondeo for some reason.

Looking a bit meh for a car meant to compete in the EU, there is a strong beltline and the interior looks functional, if not a boring and a lot brown. The front could be a bit more aggressive too.

I want to see the EuroNCAP results and full specs for the engines before I can make a proper judgement, until then, it will still carry the stigma of the badly-engineered chinese cars. I hope it's more Magna-Steyr than Chery, though.

Will makes it's world debut at the Geneva Motor Show with one production car and two concept cars
Besides the world premiere of its first production model, the GQ3 compact saloon, Qoros will also display two new concept models named the Cross Hybrid Concept and Estate Concept, both of which are based on the sedan.

"Intelligent modular vehicle platform technology allows us to create new vehicle concepts quickly and efficiently," commented Vice Chairman of Qoros Auto, Volker Steinwascher. "The Qoros GQ3 is the first of many models that will be based on this platform, and the technology will allow us to develop a complete model family in a very efficient manner."

Qoros said the Cross Hybrid Concept sports a petrol-engine driving the front-wheel wheels and an electric motor turning the rear wheels, with an electronic system controlling the two powerplants and allowing for all-wheel drive mode.

The Estate Concept features a regular drivetrain with the company stating that it offers "generous and versatile interior space thanks to a high number of alternative seating and luggage storage options".

When launched in China, the Qoros 3 Sedan will be available with two versions of a 1.6-liter gas engine with variable valve timing. The naturally aspirated engine produces 138 horsepower and 114 lb-ft of torque, while the turbocharged version gets 156 horses and 155 pound feet. Both are paired to a six-speed manual as standard, or to a dual clutch automatic as an option. Together with AVL, Qoros is also developing a new 1.6 turbo with direct injection, as well as an also turbocharged 1.2 three-cylinder engine.

That's the power plant the hybrid concept is using. While the engine is installed transversely at the front, two electric motors are mounted between the engine and the transmission. When the petrol engine, the electric motor above the rear axle and the second electric unit is working together, the hybrid becomes all-wheel drive.

The wagon is basically the same as the sedan, but with more space, as Europeans love a good estate.

I'm pretty sure that they'll get four to five stars on the EuroNCAP. If they want to compete, they'll push for five.

Chinese cars have historically been unsafe because they have historically been cheap. You can't very well make a very safe car if you don't spend enough money on it for a proper crash structure. Newer Chinese-designed cars are getting four stars on EuroNCAP (still cheap). If Quoros is launched at mainstream prices, expect mainstream safety.

What I'm wondering about is the quality of the engineering and mechanicals. If they drop the pretense of having completely Chinese built subsystems (I.E.: build the cars out of the same third-party supplied subcomponents non-Chinese manufacturers use), then they have a good chance of making a decent car.
