Question about Burnouts

To put it lightly the smog motors sucked.

Not without some serious work... maybe heads, cam etc... By the looks of it you (OP) should focus on getting it out from underneath some blankets. Do you drive the car every day? I usually don't tuck my cars into bed every night. Some, but not all.

My Vette is in horrible condition and my Father and I are working on restoring now. The Engine already has had some serious work done to it though (Flowmaster Exhaust, Edelbrock intake manifold and some other stuff.) That's why there's blankets on it. And the reason why there's a blanket on the 442 is because he hates rolling up the windows for some reason! lol

If that's the car power figure, it won't be that hard to do a burnout, what sort of mods have you done to the car ? intakes, header, carb, supercharger, exhaust, clutch, flywheel, lsd ?

To Iceyou, is the car manual or AT ? For manual, I would recommend to fit at least a heavy duty clutch. Oh, don't forget if you have access to water and hose at the school, get your friend to help spray some water beneath the rear tires to get the surface wet and slippery. This will lessen the load on the engine to start the burnout and less strain on the car's drivetrain. Be sure not to put too much water, don't want the rear tires to aquaplaning and go sideways, when the burnout starts, put some more water underneath to keep the rear spinning if you find it hard to maintain the burnout.

All L-82's were Automatic, although I was highly disappointed when my father revealed to me that the car was an Automatic! Still fun to drive though. As for parts it has a Flowmaster Exhaust system, Edelbrock intake manifold, an Edelbrock carburetor and some other stuff.

Yep, my car comes from the emission's era. Anyway I've been thinking about doing burnouts at my friends house. I'm still not sure if im actually going to do it now.

Bleach burnouts, it makes tons of smoke.



Wow I guess that's less stress on the drivetrain then huh?

That's actually not exactly true. The switch from gross go to net hp was a big difference in hp right there. For example an lt1 in 1970 made 370 gross hp while in net form it dropped to 290(?) in 71 while according to popular hot rodding they dyno very similarly. So that 300 hp 350 in 1970 motor probably made closer to 260 with all the accessories and stock manifolds.

I've seen burnouts done with Tide laundry detergent.

Be sure to think this one through though. Doing a few burnouts and donuts in the school parking lot at graduation may sound like fun, then maybe speed toward the school and get the car up on 2 wheels so you can slide it in through the front doors and burn rubber up and down the hallways.

I know it may sound like fun, but please be smart about it. Wear your seat belt. :dopey:
 
Bolt-on parts are not serious work. I would not say that an engine has anything done to it if I slapped on an exhaust system. Flowmasters sound nice, but do not flow as well as other systems. Look into them. Keep working on it, maybe bore and stroke it, get some better flowing heads, better cam etc...Re burnouts or donuts once it runs, save that for warming slicks (not radial T/A's) at the track.

If that's serious work, then actually opening the motor is gonna be super duper serious work.
 
I know this might be a rhetorical question and all, but this Cop really pissed me off today, is it illegal to flick off a police officer?

EDIT:They've been also trailing me and my Vette like crazy ever since I started driving it!! Why is that? Is it because it's a sports car or something?!

And if they have been trailing you its likely because they are waiting for a mistake.

No it's perfectly legal, but it gives them the reason to find a reason to pull you over. And they will find what ever bogus reason, missing front plate, running a yellow....
