Quick-Match concept

I've completed 40 races in the Super GT GT500 Silverstone QM section. Very entertaining and learning to race off the racing line and around moving obstacles can be quite educational. I actually have improved my racecraft with the GT500s as a result. Avg # of players in each match has been 3 or 4 with a few of 7-8. Once you get to Turn 4 of the first lap you pretty much know the skill level and intentions of the other participants, so you can adjust accordingly. If I had the choice of racing AI or QM.....I'd pick QM every time. I'm winning 75% of the races and have friended a handful of skilled, respectful drivers that are much faster than I'll ever be.

I've done several quick match races so far, its fun and entertaining because you meet many different opponents from different countries, and you see diversity in that aspect, however its a shame that you can find many noobs and dirty players that you can't kick out of the lobby :P but its a cool feature addition anyway.

My second stint with quick match was just okay. An hour's time netted me three races between all the loading and resets. One cleanish race, one dirty race and one absolutely filthy race. Net gain of 26k credits. I'm currently gold on all seasonals so I decided to improve my senna kart times. I can't crack gold on that first one.

I see a lot of complaints about this being a waste of time. You do realize you don't have to play right? You can just go to open lobby like normal and handpick a room.

We, being Sim racers, tend to forget that there are a lot more people out there who bought the game and don't want to spend time in open lobby searching for a room with car classes and specs they don't understand or don't have. They just want to go on and play, not waste their time. This is for them. They see a list of races and the car/track being used and then get to select a car that is on a level playing field.

I counted over 10,000 races going on simultaneously in Quick Match this morning. Regardless if it's "high quality" racing or not......that's astounding for PD to pull it off.

I take your point and I'm glad so many people are enjoying it. I'm one of those complaining. Mainly because I just want to go on and play as you say, but the system/ server isn't working for me. The alternative, Lobbies, take forever to get a race so I was really excited to see the quick match option. I have decent internet and other online games work fine. As I don't know how else to send polyphony feedback I'm hoping they scan the forum and sort out the bugs.
Other wise I have to turn PC sim racing which I suspect will also take a significant time commitment to get a race.

Alternatively does anyone whos had trouble with quick match found any solutions to get it to work? Can I mess with server settings?

I haven't had very much in terms of connection issues so far, but you being in the UK probably has something to do with it. All I know is not touching the controller until you get to the "Race will be starting in x seconds" screen has kept it from acting up on me.

Just took my first stab at Quick Match, and it's ok I guess. Ran a few races at the 'High Speed Ring' and finished last in the first two and by the third race everyone had quit and I won by default.

I also tried the Tsukuba match and luckily I started 2nd (out of 10) on the grid. I made it through the first hairpin, managed to avoid the carnage unfolding behind and held the lead the entire way. I promptly chalked that win up to luck and left the room. :sly:

Thanks I'll give that a go and see if it helps. Are UK servers more prone to issues then? Not sure I'm committed enough to relocate just to get a race ;)

The street car races are crap shoots, but the GT500 and Gt3 event are pretty decent

Had a few Quick Matches last night on the Tsukuba track. was fun won a couple races. hawever a couple of time i would finish in a position. say third for instance sakes. but i would be last on the rankings or second etc. not sure what was up with that but it was a bit of fun and would definatly do it again.

How often do the events change?
From the looks of it, weekly, but I could be wrong.

I'm enjoying Quick Match, but not as much as I could. The reason I'm not enjoying it as much as I could is the match-making. I think there should be a bit more freedom to who you get put in a room with so you don't end up in a room with 3 or 4 French people who drive into the back and side of you. The few times I've been paired up with a room of 12 with the common nationlity being Japanese (9 Japanese, 3 Australian), I had easily the most enjoyable race/s I've ever had online.

A bit more freedom would go a long way but until then, the fun is limited. Still a great feature, so don't get me wrong!

Another fan of Quick Match here (although it often takes me a few attempts at getting into a room). Just wondering if there are plans for a sub forum here? I think threads on each event detailing best cars and strategies for not getting wiped out by the opposition would be really handy. Also, updates on the news feed when the races are updated (as per the regular seasonal time trials and races) would be great.

I'd to it but I'm pretty hit an miss (on and off the track, lol).:gtpflag:

I don't know if it deserves a sub-forum, but a dedicated thread for discussion of the actual events would be good. This is more of an 'I like it/I don't like it' thread, people that think the idea/execution is stupid can still come here and whine.

There is a lot more to talk about, like the differences in cars for each event (much in the way we'd discuss the choices for Shuffle racing) and if it's possible to get matched with like-minded people (clean/dirty, certain cars all in the same race together, etc.) by using an old GT5 Prologue technique-synchronized entry. We used to have TREMENDOUS races in Prologue (some of the best I've ever had in any GT game) by entering at a set time, and I wonder if that method would be effective in Quick Match.

I'd set it up, but I've made about 10 posts on this forum in the last 4 years and know I won't keep up with it. My free time is limited and I typically only have a few hours to race in a given week, and even less time to comment here. It would be great to have a thread to reference, without sorting through the 'I haven't tried it, but it must be terrible because some people said so' comments.

I think that quick match will get better with time. It may still yet evolve as newer feature come out. At least i hope it does. The last few nights I have had a few good, clean, tight races. Little bit of rubbing but nothing untoward. May have been a little bit of luck with the competition I was paired with. I think this is starting to become where i will spend a bit of my online time. especially if we get some more options within it.

How did you count them?

How did you count them?

There is a caption at the bottom of each of the four entry billboards in the Quick Match Dashboard that says "4,582 races", etc., etc. This morning I counted 30,000 races being run concurrently.........unless I am interpreting those numbers wrong, that is just staggering. I've now run about 60-70 races in the GT500 Class, am really enjoying it and every once in awhile come across some really fast, respectful drivers.

The Quick Match realtime penalty system for over aggressive driving seems to be working better than what I remember in the past online racing. At Silverstone....I'm in 7th as 8 of us were going into turn one at the start. Utter chaos results where at least half the cars turn "ghost" for ramming or being out of control in front of me.....but I was able to hold my line, drive right through and come out "on the other side" in 3rd place. P1, P2, and I went on to have a really good battle for the remainder of the race.

It's very advanced compared to what it used to be. Unfortunately it's very easy to abuse once you see how it all works.

I know. I mean whats the new races?
500PP Sportcars at Tsukuba, 600PP Supercars at High Speed Ring, Super GT GT500 at Silverstone, 650PP Racing Cars (GT3) at Spa-Francorchamps. A few good ones but not much change from last week.
