Do you know what turn the Le Mans motor is? Is it a closed can or can you get to the brushes at the end? Is the stock motor black? I have run quite a few different motors in my car ranging from a 27 turn (loads of torque pretty good top end) to a 13 turn (no torque but about 40-50mph top end). The 27 gave loads of run time but I spent most of the time wheelspinning while the 13 was easier to accelerate with but because of the gearing I had, got red hot.

The 787B is going to be fairly hard to get bits for as it is old. If it hasn't got them already, bearings are the best upgrade to get first. I would then think about getting rubber tyres instead of foam so you have better wear. Only problem with rubber tyres is that last time I thought about getting some for my Sauber, they were £19.99 a pair! I don't think there were many upgrades avaliable though to be honest. As for the wheels you posted, they are for an offroad car, therefore won't fit:D

Ok, the stock motor is not black, its more of a zinc/nickel/silver/aluminum color (take your pick :P )
and it has a sticker on it...it reads:
MABUCHI MOTOR RS 540SH
and on the bottom of the sticker it has a weird set of numbers or symbols...its a bit scratched up so i will try to type it out as best i can...
the first and second symbols or numbers or wutever look like sevens...77
the second and 3rd look like so....
--- ---
-|- -|-
l L

and then there appears to be a hyphen followed by another symbol...
_

-| it almost looks like a french seven, and its also follow by wut appears to be a hyphen... ill go check on the LeMans 05...

ok i got a pic of the stock motor..i took it with my ****ty ass webcam. i tried to make it clearer in PSP, so i think this is as clear as i can get it...

Where did you get that 787B and how much was it? As far as I know there isn't an RX-7 RC car, but a 787B would be fine for me.

Bet it's expensive, but I got engines for it...

you can't get the 787B anymore. its from the 90's and they only make the cars for a short period of time. i got it from someone off ebay. he needed $$ cause he wanted to get a new one (that and he crashed his main car so he was pissed at electric engine r/cs..hehe) oh well, his loss my gain. i got it pretty cheap, and he even gave me all the parts from the one he crashed!

Both the le mans and rs540 are going to be similar in terms of performance at a guess. They should make the car fairly easy to control but not desperatly fast. Just try both and go with which one you prefer, if there is any difference. Unfortunatly the perfomance of both of them decrease with age and there isn't really anything you can do with them. If you want something faster I would be tempted to get a 27 turn stock such as a Reedy MVP or Trinity P2K2. These will give more torque and rpm but less run time. Anything with a lower number of turns (more performance) is getting towards being uncontrollable and good for only high speed runs.
As for the RX7 R/C, Yokomo definatly and possibly ABC hobby as well do an RX7 shell that can be put on pretty much any touring car chassis. This is the Yokomo one:)

In the Uk you can pick up a Nitro car for around £220-230 with all you need to go so you should be able to get one for under $300. Only problem with nitro is that they need a lot of maintenance, are noisy, need lots of space and are very messy. If you have not had an R/C before it may be best to go to Nitro via Electric, it's so much easier. If you don't mind tinkering though you will get more speed and run time out of Nitro. best bet to look at prices is Tower Hobbies.

hey rod, wut size wheels does the 787B take? i really need some new rims as well as tires. the foam ones i have are kinda cracked up and the rims are scratched like hell. i wouldn't mind a new body too. so, any touring car body 1/10 scale should fit the chassis? thanx for the help :D

Both are going to be tricky as the 787B is a strange size, the body being the hardest part to find I would imagine. I should think your best bet is to look at Ebay to see if anyone is selling parts for your car. If not, go to your nearest hobby shop and see if they have anything. Tyres may be easier, like I said, there were some rubber tyres I could have bought for my Mercedes (which is the same chassis) but they were £20 a pair! If all fails buy a copy of R/C car action and start ringing model shops. If it is any help I can get the part numbers of the original Tamiya parts when I get home. The problem with your car (and my Merc) is that it is hard to get parts, thats why I have only run it a couple of times. If may be easier to keep the 787 for display and have another car for running:)

AHHHHHH. that sux i bought it so i could run that baby like it was GT3 ;) but yea the parts numbers would help (if i can actually find any original parts)...blech i knew i shoulda bought a newer model car, but it looked so sweet and i got such a good deal. i just couldn't pass it up :cheeburga:

The parts are out there to be bought, you just have to find them! How knackered is the shell then? If you are after another 787B you may have difficulty, while they will be normal price in shops I should imagine (if you can find one!), on Ebay they can go for massivley inflated prices as they are snapped up by collectors. I have exactly the same problem with my old cars.

well, the shell is OK i guess. the decals are just starting to come loose at the tips. and there is 2 small cracks on the nose of the car. and the wing is chiped on the side. and its a bit scratched on the top (he must of flipped it...LOL!!). But besides the cosmetic issues, the main reason i want to get a new 787B body is so i can paint it black n red instead of green n orange (or green n red in my case). plus that leaves me free to drive with the old body without worry, cause i'd still have my nice one to make it all purty :) would it be possible to exchange peices for newer products? anything for current model cars would be compatible with the old chassis? the suspension is otay, but i've seen the new ones and its just like...wow where i do get that 😈 and are these old cars able to take an electric throttle control (i think thats wut it was called)?

Ummm... The green and red is the most collectable... I don't know why you would change it...

Anyone know of a gt-40 body?

I am looking to get into it right now, but don't have the $400(can) to spend on it right at this moment...

So have you run your car yet? I am 99% sure is is electronic speed control only anyway. I have never seen one fitted with a mechanical speed control As for swapping parts off newer cars it is exceedingly unlikely unless you fancy engineering it to fit. You are basically stuck with the three point suspension setup unfortunatly. As for flipping it, last time I ran mine I put a 13 turn motor in the car so it was good for 45+mph. I ran it on a car park that had a little rubbish blowing around but thought it should be ok as it was mainly paper. On a high speed run, something hard made the nose lift off the ground a little. Because the car was going so fast, the nose lifted futher when the air rushed underneath flipping the car onto its roof. It looked a little like the Mercedes CLR at Lemans when it flipped except mine went straight back onto its roof rather than somersaulting several times. That's how I scratched my roof anyway:D

LOL!! i guess i'll be real cautious when driving over 10MPH :) But no, i havn't run it yet. mainly because i didn't have a charger (hehe), but even if i did, i wouldn't have run it untill i got a replacement/backup bodyshell. I ordered a MRC Superbrain 959, so after i get that, imay be extremly tempted. but i don't want to risk smashing up the body and not being able to replace it. as for the speed control, if im loking at the right thing, its like a silicon disc with plastic screwed on and a metal arm attached to somfin else. so that sounds machinical to me...or am i in the wrong spot?

i don't like the color green. nor orange (which is wut it is suppossed to be). my 2 favorite colors are black n red, so iw ould like to paint the car like that, but keep the layout the same. i think it would look wicked :)
