Heya fellow drifters...

I originally intended to have this thread for help on the NSX LM Race Car and it's drift settings... Seems since I started this thread I've become a Race Car Drifting NUT!!! I've gotten pretty good at setting these grippy bastards up to drift and they've no become my favorite class of car to drift...

So I decided, with the influence of a few of my friends here (looks @ KaiZen) to start posting the settings of my Race Cars for drifting for all those of you who share my passion for drifting race cars...

Current Settings:

DRIVERS AIDS OFF!!! hehe
ALL done with DFP900
ALL tested @ El Captain

Honda NSX-R LM Edition Race Car ('02)...

Spring Rates: F11 - R8 - NEW: F11.8 - R7
Ride Height: F lowest (65 I think) - R 20mm above front
Shocks Bound: F8 - R4 - NEW F8 - R3
Shocks Rebound: F8 - R4 - NEW F8 - R3
Camber: F3.0 - R1.0
Toe: F0 - R0
Stabilisers: F7 - R2 - NEW F7 - R1

LSD Acceleration: 60
LSD Deceleration: 15

Downforce: F25 - R21

Tyres: N2 F and R

Brakes: F10 - R15

Tranny: Autoset to 5

How to handle her?

  • Keep your speed up, this car wants to grip so speed is a must to make the whole corner.
  • Use lots of feinting - she doesn't do lift off or power over, so get her sideways before the corner and she'll drift right through
  • Watch out for snap! - she's a race car and wants to go around straight, look out when exiting the corner

Oh yeah, and of course, any comments are always welcome...

And here are a few pics for you...

Mazda RX8 Concept LM Race Car

Spring Rates: F16 - R14
Ride Height: F50 - R60

LSD Deceleration: 20

Downforce: F38 - R32

Tyres: N2 F and R

Brakes: F10 - R15

Tranny: Autoset to 5

How to handle her?

She loves feint and power over and once in a slide can be powered through long turns with carefull throttle control, Just be careful not to oversteer too much as this will drop her speed and you wont make the turn. Otherwise, she can be thrown around like a pendulim. :D

Here's a few pics...

Mazda RX7 LM Race Car

Spring Rates: F15.4 - R12.4
Ride Height: F45 - R60
Shocks Bound: F8 - R4
Shocks Rebound: F9 - R5
Camber: F3.0 - R1.0
Toe: F0 - R0

LSD Acceleration: 50
LSD Deceleration: 15

Downforce: F38 - R32

Tyres: N2 F and R

Brakes: F10 - R15

Tranny: Autoset to 5

How to handle her?
This baby's fast, and she looooves to slide... Feinting will get you into any corner then you'll need powerover to get the arse round. If you feel a little understeer coming a small lift off will correct it. Treat the RX7 gently as she can be very twitchy. She doesn't like to be thrown around, but be smooth and she'll carry you to a sideways orgasm.

Some pics for you...

ASL ARTA Garaiya (JGTC) '03

Spring Rates: F14 - R9
Ride Height: F45 - R70
Shocks Bound: F8 - R3
Shocks Rebound: F8 - R3
Camber: F3.0 - R0.0
Toe: F0 - R0
Stabilisers: F7 - R1

LSD Initial: 30
LSD Acceleration: 60
LSD Deceleration: 15

Downforce: F30 - R21

Tyres: N1 F and R

Brakes: F10 - R15

Tranny: Autoset to 5

How to handle her?
Now here's a beauty of a drift car, currently my favorite drift car. The settings look odd at first as they seem so extreme, but they work like a charm. Throw this baby into any corner using any technique your heart desires and she'll slide right through. The ASL loves to be woman handled and is shear drifting pleasure (sorry BMW).

BMW M3 GTR Race Car

Spring Rates: F14 - R11
Ride Height: F55 - R70
Shocks Bound: F8 - R4
Shocks Rebound: F9 - R5
Camber: F3.0 - R1.4
Toe: F0 - R0
Stabilisers: F7 - R3

LSD Initial: 30
LSD Acceleration: 60
LSD Deceleration: 20

Downforce: F38 - R32

Tyres: N2 F and R

Brakes: F10 - R15

Tranny: Autoset to 5

How to handle her?
Use her power, she has plenty of it... The GTR loves to get sideways and can sustain nice angles for long drifts. Feint and lift off work well to get the arse out, then gentle throttle control will keep it there.

Some pics for you...

C-West Razo Silvia (JGTC)

Spring Rates: F14.8 - R9.8
Ride Height: F45 - R70
Shocks Bound: F8 - R2
Shocks Rebound: F9 - R2
Camber: F3.0 - R0
Toe: F0 - R0
Stabilisers: F7 - R1

LSD Initial: 30
LSD Acceleration: 60
LSD Deceleration: 15

Downforce: F30 - R20

Tyres: N1 F and R

Brakes: F10 - R15

Tranny: Autoset to 4

How to handle her?
I stand corrected, but I believe the Silvia is a GT300 Car... It's not as powerful as the likes of it's big sister the Skyline... This said, this car NEEDS to be thrown around... Power over doesn't really work on the Silvia as there's not much to play with (and I don't add power to race cars). Feinting works like a charm and once the car is sideways you need to watch your angle to maintain the drift.

Some pics for you...

Nissan Fairlady Z LM Race Car

Spring Rates: F16.8 - R11.8
Ride Height: F55 - R70
Shocks Bound: F8 - R4
Shocks Rebound: F9 - R5
Camber: F3.0 - R0
Toe: F0 - R0
Stabilisers: F7 - R1

LSD Initial: 40
LSD Acceleration: 60
LSD Deceleration: 5

Downforce: F38 - R32

Tyres: N3 F and R

Brakes: F10 - R15

Tranny: Autoset to 7

How to handle her?
This machine has awesome power and plenty torque to go with it, so you need to be very careful with the gas here. She'll react well to power over and lift off and will slide for ever once you get her sideways...

Uh, daan....didn't we already have the discussion about you putting stuff into MY forum? :irked:

 :sly:

NIIICE! That thing rocks. I like drifting the JGTC cars like Sam Hubinett and Tarzan Yomoda (sp?) in the Vipers. However, like you say, they are too stable and very hard to get sideways, but stay sideways once they get there.

LSD is locked on accel?? You better have alot of wheelspin then. Try to turn down your initial and it should take some of that "overstability" out of it on the straights and while coasting. It will make the car more manuverable which will make the car easier to initiate on corner entry. Also locking the diff during accel (which you have done) will mean that if you don't have lots of wheel spin that the car will just hook up and drive forward out of the drift and may start understeering. Turning that down could help, just don't go below 40.

Nice pics btw. :)

OMG KaiZen, is that a Capella or the normal RX2, can't see from the front.... Very nice, is it yours???? I race an RX2 IRL, the Capella... It's recently seen some heavy mods to it as I moved up a class to full modifieds...

Anyway, back on topic...

rsmithdrift, I actually locked the diff on accel to allow for more sideways action, I found that once I locked it the cars got a little more sideways than with it unlocked... I'll give it another bash though... I found that keeping the initial torque higher on racing cars (which I drift alot) makes them break out a little better... Oh and thanks for the props on the pics... ;)

Delphic R, I can drift the NSX type R aaaallllllll day, hehe, it's an awesome MR drifting car... This race car is a little harder.. hehe...

OMG, I think that road car definatly is one of the more better looking cars in GT4, not to speak about it's sound:drool: And forget handling:drool::crazy::lol:

Never got one:guilty::( Twin Motegi, I know........8 hours, B-Spec sucks:tdown:

Which road car? My pics are a race car??? lol...

I personally don't like B-Spec either 👎 But I just had to have the NSX LM car 👍 So I B-Speced it over night...

The NSX-R LM Road car 02....its basically the road version of the race car....ie...no stickers....but the suspension is a little softer making drifting a breeze. Find it by winning a race somewhere....I don't remember where

Good choice ViXeN. I think the Honda NSX-R LM Edition Race Car ('02) looks very nice when sideways. I've attepted using it for xlink but as stock form, its too much of a grip car than a drift car without being able to tune some of the suspension. After reading your tread today, I spent some time testing it out in GT mode with some suspension tuning and N3 tires equiped, gearing adjustment, etc... and I've gotten it to drift nicely. I've prepared a short video dedicated to the Honda NSX-R LM Edition Race Car ('02). I'll post it in a few.

Video is uploaded. The link is on my Drift Video Collection link in my sig.

Thanks BreakerOhio, I just love drifting NSX's and the Race car is sooooooo rewarding now...

I've updated my settings above and needless to say I have created a sliding GOD!!!

The problem with breaking loose seemed to be that the rear was still too stiff... I softened it up some and vuola!!! sideways action... The car now holds it's speed through the corners and drifts beautifully with minimil effort...

Feel free to try my settings out!!!

I'll give it a try.

OMFG :embarrassed:mfg: I just noticed: "Stabilizers-F7;R1" WTF were you thinking??!! That's completely backwards and ideally they should both be around 4-6 and the softer the front stabilizer the looser the car and easier to initiate. Opposite goes for the rear, stiffening the rear reduces rear traction. Think in terms of cross wieght on the tires and what happens when the front rolls more than the rear and vise versa. I'll tell you: if the front rolls more than the rear then you have BOTH front wheels with load and ONLY ONE rear wheel with loading, which creates a LOOSE CAR AND OVERSTEER (the main component of drifting) The opposite will happen if the rear is softer. WHY WOULD YOU SOFTEN THE REAR END??!! As far as springs go, yes softening the rear will give you more control and "lock" you into your drift better, but stabilizers should never be like that.

Hey?! Wassup With The DD Avatar?!

BTW, race car.....well, compared to the road car...I think race car is ugly. Imagine that and imagine how the road car looks like:P:drool:

I just won the Road Version at the Motegi Endurance and I think I prefer the look of the racecar. Unless it comes in another colour as mine is white..

I'm yet to try ViXeN's settings, so I'll also take in rsmithdrift's advice on the stabiliser settings, though I've always found that the MR's rear weight bias has been enough to keep the rear sliding so I usually have it softer at the rear compared to the front.

I'll probably try it tonight since the only enduro's I have left are the 24hr ones..
hahaha.. completed all the enduro's except the 24hr ones in 3 days.. gota love Jenna..

KaiZen loves Jenna :sly:

Who is Jenna? read on... :mischievous:

Enduro Tip: If you want Jenna to drive enduro's like a pro, B-Spec the track and car in Free Run for 30 laps or so from 3-5..

OK, rsmithdrift, Here's how I see it... If you stabilise the front, you stop body roll and get an even weight transfer... By desatbilising the rear you get more body roll and hence more weight on your outside tyre... so the rear breaks away easier... (This is from my IRL racing experience)...

Anyway, the game is backwards in many ways, so I'll try and reverse it and see what happend...

KaiZen, I've now done 2 Motegi enduro's B-Spec and I got a silver and a black NSX LM Road Car so far... I've left B-Spec on today while I'm at work to see what the next colour I get is (I sense a collection coming on...)

Now, what will be my next drift project??? :indiff:

Cool! I gota do it again then.. white looks FUGLY!.. :yuck:

I read a few months ago that Honda were actually planning on building that car. With the Roof scoop and all, pushing out over 300kw at the engine. But this was shortly after they reported that they weren't going to continue the NSX line.. Recently I read that the HSC is being resurrected and due to debut at either the Tokyo or Geneva Motor Show in 07..

How about an RX8 LM? Or do you have one set up already? I used to love drifting that in GTConcept, with Soft front and Hard rear tyres, completing at least 2 full laps around Autumn Ring Reverse without gaining traction and Manji'in down the straights. :indiff:

aaaaahh.. good times.. GO THE ROTOR!!

Oh and thanks for the props in the sig, but I thought my way was better ;)
Use that if you like..

If it don't go BRAP! I don't give a ****! - kzn

KaiZen = kzn = Kwazulu Natal??? Just curious???

hmmm, RX8 LM, I haven't even thought about that yet, I have a green and orange one that would Drift like a charm I'm sure... Think I'll give that a shot...

Go Rotary!!!

Do the RX8 LM cars come in different colours too?

Kwazulu Natal? bwhaha.. damn South African's.. think they're the centre of the universe!!..
<see's bright lights.. "Crap a Capella!".. runs for the hills.. can't get away.. "accelerates like a damn MacLaren!!.."> :scared:

KaiZen to kzn is like Trevor is to TVR.. :D

Don't be afraid to look up what "Kaizen" means in Japanese.. :sly:

Got a new addition to my sig, but I can't even check it out till I leave work :indiff:

Hehe, aren't we though??? lol - You must be Auzzie then!!!

"Do the RX8 LM cars come in different colours too?" Dunno? Race the RX8 Cup a few times and check.. hehe...

<see's bright lights.. "Crap a Capella!".. runs for the hills> hehe, Funny... BTW, I'm taking my Capella to a 1/4 Mile event this weekend to see how well she accelerates since she's been modified... Last time I ran a 14 flat... I expect a 11-12 this time... Will let you know. ;)

I did a few laps on the weekend testing this setup on Grand Valley, Deep Forrest, Apricot Hill and Autumn Ring Reverse. I didn't have much time (only about 20 mins), but I did still try a few rough changes to make it a little easier to control with a DS2 as I'm sure this setup was created for the DFP900. Am I wrong?

The setup was fine once sliding, but I found it abit too twitchy under brakes and also a little sensitive above about 7700rpm, for me. Since I was a little pressed for time I didn't make any suspension changes and just changed the final drive and LSD settings..

As I was finding it a little throttle sensitive for my DS2 I adjusted the Final Gear to around 3.6 (or there abouts) compared to the default of around 4. This stopped the revs from rising too fast and made it easier to keep it from bouncing off the limiter mid-drift.

I then adjusted the LSD Decel to about 25 to increase braking stability and it also reduced abit of mid-drift understeer while braking (does that make sense? lol), which I don't think you would have to do with the DFP900 as you can just try and catch and hold the wheel in order to keep it going straight. Different story with the DS2..

They were just quick changes. I only did about 3 laps on each of those tracks..

Yip, DFP900 tuned... hehe...

I've noticed that my set ups have changed since I changed the DFP... lol...

I set up a few more race cars this weekend...

I have already...

Check out my galary and you'll see csome pics...

Let's see...
ASL Arta (JGTC)
BMW Me GTR Race Car
Gillet Vertigo

Those were the additions to the race cars...

When you can, try the changes I made. They're rough quick changes, but I'd still like to know what you think. For me, it made the car a little more user friendly by making it more stable..

So, what I really want to know is if it is a more rewarding drive when you have to fight the wheel abit at times or if you prefer it more stable and predictable..

I prefer control... I like it when I can react slowly and smoothly to what the car is doing... That was what I tuned out of the NSX... The first settings meant I had to fight and throw the car around to get drifts... The new settings made it smoother...

Something I've noticed on ALL my race cars that are set up to drift... My LSD Accel is always locked @ 60... I find that on 40 or 50 or anything below 60 for that matter, I just can't get the arse out... or I have trouble maintaining the whole drift... Anyone else noticed this when tuning race cars to drift?
