I think one major problem is how the marketing wasn't clearcut enough for alot of people, alot of people were expecting a sim which they didn't get. I knew GRiD was never meant to be a sim in any way, which is why I was allowed to enjoy it without complaining about it.

You bought lego batman...well that explains why you wouldn't enjoy grid if you enjoy games like that....

Why do so many people hate this game? *grrr*

I think it's great! Bought it on release day for £25 on PC (i use a 360 controller for it) Far more "edge of your seat" in the final races than GT5P is... And so what if it isn't a sim? Can't you guys appreciate any other game sub-genre? I still think Half Life 2's the best damn game ever created and you don't die after one shot hits you so boo-hoo that isn't realistic either, but it doesn't mean in any way shape or form it's bad. GRiD's got great gameplay, great AI and great tracks and that's what matters.

Exactly what I think. 👍

The game was never advertised to be a serious racer so why are people expecting it to be one? The only tie in is the link with TOCA Race Driver, but this game isn't a TOCA game. It isn't even mentioned as being a follow up, it is a new game with a different approach. I must admit, like you I find the races more intense than GT5P's at the moment, and I can't see that changing between Prologue and the full game. Anyway, great post I agree with you totally. 👍

Couldn't have put it any better myself, along with Speedster I fully agree with you.:tup:The only thing ruining Grid is the morons who deliberatly (and attempt to) ram you off the track online spoiling it for everyone else:grumpy:.
IMO GT5P is boring compared to this.
I can't get enough of it at the minute!:)

This is the problem with GRiD... it could have been one of the best driving games ever made. It had: graphics, sound, great cars, great tracks, day night cycles, amazing damage (if not the best ever), destructible tracks, a variety of game modes (time attack, drift, endurance, circuit, etc), online (it was mediocre but there), and a great career mode. THE ONLY THING it did really did not have was good physics (and terrible force feedback). I do not think people realize how close GRiD came to being one of if not the most realistic and I dare say best racing games ever. This is the sole reason I hate GRiD.

force feedback was okay for me with my wheel. the game was made to be arcade, not a sim. to many it is the best driving game ever made.

The AI is the game is perhaps the best of any racing games out there: unlike GT5P where everything seems scripted, in GRID mistakes and collision are totally random. Plus the collision detection is quite superb. I only wish that Codemasters would've given us the option of turning down the rubberbanding in the SP mode although it is the reason why the racing are increibly exciting.

Yeah, although randomly scripted and not based on actual physics or anything, i love the way drivers can spin out or brake too late and stuff, i think Polyphony could take a leaf out of Codemaster's book on that one - the AI constantly drives too perfectly in Gran Turismo :P

Around a month ago i was racing along a straightaway in second place, with one of the Ravenwest (don't you hate how they get really hard to pass in the later races?) team members out about ten - twenty metres ahead and i watched in awe as his front left tyre blew out and he skidded into a tyre wall, me only just dodging the debris.

It just looked amazing, like a cinematic or something, with all the car parts flying off and the smoke and the tryes from the tyre wall erupting everywhere :)

I ended up watching it in flashback mode and you could even see the little bits of rubber flying off his tyre when it blew and bounce along the asphalt...

Maybe i found this far more cool than i should have :D

EDIT: Actually, no, scratch that, now thinking back to the E3 Trailer, it does seem that the AI drivers in Gran Turismo 5 can crash of their own accord (in one scene you see a crash unfolding in front of the driver's car - the one with the questionable clipping / ghosting), unless that was just done specially for the trailer, which i doubt.

The AI does make a few mistakes even on GT5: Prologue. I've sometimes seen them spear off wide. It's rare but there, however on London they ALWAYS seem to hit the wall on one particular turn much to my annoyance because it 1) doesn't slow them and 2) it shouldn't happen so often.

But in my GT5 i never saw one AI car hiting the wall, sliding, spining or something else... in grid this things are more frequent, on grid the colisions, (even knowing they exist often in AI) they are unexpected and i agree with the grid specs... the graphics, sound, cars, tracks,... and feedback for me is ok.
GRID is one of the few racing games i really enjoy.

It would be cool if Codemaster would use the Grid engine to make a GT like game. Imagine Grid with the amout of tracks and cars of Gran Turismo, and the driving Physics of GT. Thats would be fantastic! And the funny thing is, there is no reason why it cant be done. The PS3 seems to have no problem with running the Grid engine, so the only thing to do is add a lot more content, and change the driving feel.

GRID is one of the few racing games i really enjoy.

I have seen GT5P cars spinning into the sandtraps a few times, it's not as good as Grid in that respect but it is there so it could be there in GT5.

One thing I don't like about Grid is to many tracks appear to be under an orange haze as if it's always sunset or sunrise.

Forgot to do this a while back, but here's a video of me playing the game:

I'm not the best driver there is, but notice that unlike most the vids you would see with Grid, I actually try to be smooth every lap.

Dragonistic

All of them have that :P It's some kind of soft filter they added to the game - it's the same with DiRT which uses the same engine, hope it won't be in GRiD 2 or DiRT 2 because quite a few people have complained about that, so they might do something about it.

In the PC versions of DiRT and GRiD you can disable it by editing one of the config files, though obviously there's nothing you can do about the console ones.

Couple of days ago i bought GRID... to my own suprise as i didnt really think this would be very good after playing the demo but the lack of new racegames, lemans on tv and the price tag of 30 euro got to me...

And i have been pleasantly surprised by the game... it felt so much better then the demo, stil its 100% arcade but its a good enjoyable arcade game (offline so far only).

But still it lacks in settings department, only tc on/off is very irritating.

Also after everyone being about how good this game looks it was kinda disappointing because it looks good but nothing all that spectacular (maybe spoilt with gt5p  )
The orange haze is kinda strange in a way.

Damage is nicely done also that it can effect the car handling is good.

But i do hope codemaster will also try more simulation games in the future again. 👍

Anyone knows if it is worth trying to hook this game up to Logitech GT wheel? or will it not work?

i play GRID with my controller only. Many have said that the wheel doesn't respond well to the game. Or vice versa.

However, i think that most racing games out there (yes including Forza and GT) could take a few notes regarding GRID... mostly its Quality in FX (Smoke, sparks), Damage mechanics (affecting handling as well as very cool visual deformation), sounds (tire squeels, body impact, engines) and overall feeling of being in a cockpit (camera movements and hard impacts through bumps stuff.

It might be arcade, but it definitely feels better than the rest.

Good to hear, have you got it on PS3 or 360? If you've got it on PS3 drop us a friend invite and I'll see if I can join you online at some point. Private room of course. :)

Here's a question for those of you who have this: can you set it up with a decent championship over a number of races? By this I mean maybe an 8-track competition (or more) with a GP style points system (e.g 10 pts for 1st, with decreasing points for lower places). I played this for a bit in a friends' place a while back and it didn't seem to have this from what I could see.

Hmm, from what I recall I don't think its possible. I know that most championships online consist of 2 or 3 races, although I might be mistaken as I never raced in the world series events online. However, the points system you mentioned is in the game, although often at more than 10pts per win. I think only the top 8 get points any lower and you get nothing. 👍

No its not 8 per race and its not to 10 per race, it changes with the number of racers ...

just like:

2 players

1st-20 points
2nd- 10 points

and

12 players

1st - 10
2nd- 9
3rd - 8
4th - 7
5th - 6
6th - 5
7th - 4
8th - 3
9th - 2
10th- 1
11th- 0
12th- 0

or sometinhg close to this
I don't like much of the GT5P driving style, its realistic and its good but i dont think grid was made to be a simulator, i like grid's driving style, just to have fun, and in GT5P the chalenge theres no strong oposition, they dont close you're path, you just find it online, in grid ofline, the races have some realy strong oposition, and in grid, the drift its far more realistic (in my point of view), but GT5P as got more cars, and more good tracks, i dont like of okutama, with fast cars taht race is a mess.

PS: In GT5P Offline sucks and Online is far more funny. In GRID Offline is awsome but online sucks, theres just punters, i never found one lobby where those hit me for mistake and not on pourpose.

These comentarys are in my point of view, all of them.

Thanks for the replies folks, much appreciated.

I went into town so with the express purpose of buying Grid, and had my head turned by Toca 3 (windows)! I had great fun with this back on the PS2 and I saw that this was compatible with Vista so I went this way instead. It seems a little sedate next to Grid, but it has a lot more cars, tracks and race types, plus you can set up longer championships!

I do prefer playing with a pad and on my telly rather than on a laptop keyboard though. Sigh, nothing's perfect eh...?

I can´t drive with wheel, the wheel goes crazy, e starts pushing for one side and then for the other side, independently of the part of the track or anyting else...
i drive with pad...
does ayone where races grid frequently, id like to make some decent races with some clean drivers... anyone avilable for this?

See you

I'm usually quite frequently on it, but my PS3 broke on Friday, and although I'm getting a replacement on Tuesday, Race Driver Grid was stuck in the console and it could be another 6 weeks before I get that game back. But once I get it back I'll probably be playing it again.

When you're up to GRID online Buzz me... In my PS3 Grid stucks/Freez sometimes but never broke my PS3, Have you Finished the game already, you have all the cars, ... i do hehehe

I had finished the game  I'm going to have to start from square one when I get it back (luckily my online stats remain). Oh and BTW Grid didn't break my PS3 it just happened to be left in the console when it got YLOD (Yellow Light of Death) so it wasn't a issue based with the game. Although it must be said I've never had any of the freezing issues you've mentioned. 👍

Hey, i've been thinking, in your PSstore you have any aditional content, id like to try new cars and new tracks...

For you which games is the best:

GRID
GT5P
Ferrari Chalenge

hi :) there's no additional content for GT5P on the ps store. for GRID theres a car pack with some good motors (TVR Speed 12,
Evo X, S2000, etc), and for Ferrari Challenge there's a pack with the Nurburgring GP track and 6 cars

best value imo is the FC pack because it has a track in it, whereas GRID is just cars
