Triple Post FTW!

My copy of Grid arrived yesterday and I have only put it down to sleep

It's good fun, there seems little incentive to complete the main career fully, so I skipped online once i had plenty of money and sponsors for my car. Very pleased with my purchase so far :)

edit: Just went on a solo freestyle drift and managed 1,096,916,480points!!

Glad you are having fun with GRID. Its a really good game for sure and the drifting is very fun. The drifting and demo derby are my favorite modes even though I have to admit I have not played GRID in quite a while.

 Same favourites as me, I wish Touge was online, but other then that I have no real complaints at all.

Well, I've been playing this game on and off for a few weeks now and thought I'd make some observations (mainly compared to GT5p obviously).

1. It's an arcade game - not any kind of sim. Though a lot of people say GT5p is not as "sim like" as some available on the PC, this is nowhere near. You still have to brake for corners, and take a half decent line but other than that it's not realistic in the slightest.

2. The damage modelling is outstanding - especially considering all of the major names in the game. It adds a sense of "fear" you don't really get in GT5p knowing that if you **** up (and choose not to use flashbacks) your face is finished.

3. This game was clearly not made with a wheel user in mind. It's very, very difficult to get a good set-up (I had to look online for some time before I could) and when you do, it's still hard to play. That said, it is significantly faster with the wheel, it almost seems like you can get more lock on the steering wheel and turn faster.

4. The AI is far superior to GT5p, but is still lacking the will to win. They put up a really good fight, until you pass them, then they give up.

5. Turning the aids off seems to slow you down, a lot. The complete opposite of GT5p.

In summary, it is a very good game. Well worth the £20 or so it's going for on some UK sites now. Don't expect GT5p style realism though, take this for what it is, an arcade racer with amazing cars and some really nice tracks (Spa, Donnington and the american street circuits are a right laugh). This is a vast improvement on the almost unplayable Colin Mcrae: DiRT - which was an insult to an amazing talent.

I have the demo of this game and I agree about the AI. They gave me a Hard time for a while but after I passed them, They weren't even trying anymore.

I just installed grid for the pc today, and it won't run :( I installed latest patch, and it still wont run. I think it may be the ATi drivers. the Demo worked up untill around the time i installed the 8.12 drivers... Anyone else had problems w/ Grid?

I click the exe, the grid decal pops up for a second, then it crashes. I'm using Vista 64 ultimate OS.

About the AI, try at Extreme dificulty. they are very hard to run away from and quite convincing.

Cheers,

I'm using the one down from Extreme as standard whilst progressing through the game. They seem pretty much perfect for a really challenging race where I can still get a half decent result to continue going forwards.

Using the G25 I was a lot quicker than with the pad - you almost seem to get more steering lock, but I gave up since it was annoying me and making me far worse at GT5p.

When using the G25 I could keep up (only just though) with the AI on Extreme, winning a race if everything went absolutely perfectly. But I found they took certain corners much faster than I could and certain corners much slower than I could - definitely lacked consistency which meant I would either plow into them or they would plow into me.

Another thing which really annoys me about Grid: If an AI car and you come into contact (regardless of who's fault it was) you always seem to end up flying off the track and half way up a tree whilst they drive off seemingly unaffected.

I started playing this on PC last week. Fun game, though I didn't manage to win a race so far. It's hard because you can't do any test laps or qualifying before the race so you don't know the track at all during the race.

I'll have to stop playing story mode and play some single races to learn the tracks layout first. Lame!

Isn't there some sort of practice mode? Thought I saw videos where people were doing hot laps with no AI

Test drive, you can go against your own ghost and so on although some tracks are missing, well the Touge track is I don't know what else can't be accessed in Test Drive, but you can take drift cars onto normal circuits and vice versa.

I just got this game yesterday, it was cheap so I decided to give it a go. My first impressions are mixed. When using a controller, this game is absolutely brilliant. No realism ofcourse, but I didn't expect any, so that's cool. :) The races are insane and the sense of speed, even when using the chase cam, is awesome. The one thing I'm not so happy about are the G25 settings, the steering is really awkward and the FFB is rubbish. Will changing the settings in the menu cure this behaviour? Otherwise I have no complaints about the game, it's a lot of fun!

Wow, my teammate is one gutsy dude  I brake early to avoid a huge pile up and suddenly, he goes plowing through the smoke and comes out unharmed.

I found it, thanks alot. I was even able to find how you wash your cars. it was getting abit annoying seeing my virtual gems getting dirty with no way to clean them

Yes, you need to change the default setting to get the best out of the game. I'm running G25 as well and here's the setting that I find work the best:

I think I've come up with a pretty good setup for GRID for those using the G25. I'm able to win "Savage" Mode races without problem and it handles the DBR9 pretty successfully. You don't get the kind of FF games/simulator like GT5P provides and I wasn't expecting it.

FF Setting (In order)

50

60

60

(I like really strong FFB effect)

Deadzone- 0

Steering Saturation- 20-25% (Ilke mine best at 25%)

Linearity- 0-1 (I prefer 1)

Accelerator Pedal Deadzone- 10%

Accelerator Pedal Saturation- 85%

Brake Pedall Deadzone- 15%

Brake Pedal Saturation- 85%

900%- ON

I usually keep the ABS On but turn off the TCS and ASM. With this setting, I find GRID actually surpass GT4 when it comes to FFB implementation and even the physics. In fact, I find the handling to be quite good, much better than when I first played the game. I don't know of the recent patch fix the handling but I'm really starting to enjoy GRID (again).

I have GRiD on the PS3. It's a fun, entertaining arcade race. The gamepad controls are far too twitchy and sensitive and I haven't had chance to try it with my DFP. I don't think anything matches it for the sense of speed and it gives and the adrenalin rush. IMO. :)

I wish I hadn't been such a sim racing snob and played grid earlier. It's a lot of fun once you just let go of what the cars "should" be performing like and just try to go fast and enjoy the game. graphics are great, AI are fun to race, netcode is good, force feedback is nice etc.

I had some clean races with friends earlier and it was a blast.

Yeah, I suppose clean races are only possible with friends. The general online experience on Grid is very frustrating if you let damage on because people behind you don't care much about braking.

I am pretty much stuck in this game right now. There are a few races left and it seems like the AI just smashes me off the road or destroys my car one way or another and I never end up finishing. A few times I finished the series with the most points and still did not get a trophy for completing the races. I just dont understand that. :ouch:

Man, i finished that game within 2 weeks. I remember having some problems with a few of the achievements, it wouldn't give them to me even though i had done them. One was the ach where you couldn't make contact with another car, that was just a bitch. Especially when you finally do it and it doesn't give it to you:ouch: I need to get it to do the online ach if i ever get bored with games that are out.

my god, how does this game have ANY fanbase. The tracks look bland, the racing is "meh", and the online is seriously broken. Now about the online, it ain't that is broken in ways of function but the people who play it. at the start of 9 outta 10 races there are people who just block the road and just kill the race dead. About 7 terminal crashes in the first 10 seconds awful.

Does anyone here actually like GRiD?

C.O.F

I do, but mainly for the demo derby as ramming isn't cheap there, and the drifting. Drifting with a friend in private doing Tandem runs is good fun if you get a few good drifters there. It's rubbish in public cus everyone point whores on the same spots and has no fun.

i really think some people invite their friends to destroy other racers...seriously :P

I do yes, I think its in many ways better than GT5P. Yes you heard me! It's more fun for a start, I can't see how on earth you can think the tracks look bland, they have more soul and character than any track on GT5P (they all seem to look the same, untouched and brand new on GT5P). Online wise, let me guess your going for Touring Cars, because when I go online with them I'll admit its a bit of a blood bath however try doing a Le Mans series, GT1, GT2, LMP1, LMP2 race. Any of those don't tend to be rammers, if they then vote to kick them.

I'm not really certain this even warranted the need for a new thread, why not just post your opinion in the Race Drive Grid thread instead?

so you actually paid $ for it....... sorry to hear that:nervous:

tell be about it man, least i got my moneys back :) (got LEGO Batman instead :P)

GRID is a great game if you don't compare it to anything simmy. the graphics are the best i've seen on console, as i find
GT5P very sterile in that respect

online? yep, its sheer lunacy. i just try to avoid the mayhem as much as possible, but if i have to turn nasty, i do

behaviour that i wouldn't indulge in on GT5P online, but good fun in the right place

I like the game, but I havn't played it since January... I generally preffer simulation.

I tried the Demo last night and this game would be rubbish value for money if it was free.

The original Toca Touring Car Championship was one of my favourite PS1 games. It's a shame to see the series sink so low.
