Wow, that's a pretty crappy physics engine they got there.

Surely the guy driving it wasn't helping much, but stil...
And I didn't like the sounds that much, all pretty similar and even during the videos they were already getting boring.

Well thats both disappointing and unsurprising. The cars have the same strange axis of Dirt and other Codemasters racing games not Race Driver. Using the Dirt engine was simply a cheap and quick solution. How hard is it to even use a last gen physic engine, granted not the best but clearly better than what they have now.

It wont stop me from getting though.

Looking like Dirt is way better than looking like Pro Street! :ill:

Except for the smoke. Horrible game, but the closest thing to realistic tire smoke I have ever seen in a console game. Too bad the cars handle like brick houses, and you have to listen to that God-Awful DJ.

im not amused

That's a big surprise. Dirt had horrible physics. Wasn't expecting much more from this. They seem to have that same archaic central pivot based physics that have never worked for any game (Colin Mcrae series I'm looking at you).

;)

After watching the "Official Trailer 2" or whatever they released a week back, with that Queens of the Damned Music (which they also play in Fifth Gear Shootouts), I was really hoping for a good PGR-styled Arcade racer. But this is just plain Shocking. This is worse than most arcade racers out there. And pitty I'll have to buy this, coz most of my friends cant play sim racers at all.. And they're all psyched about this. lol.

good graphics (a bit old) disgusting gameplay

and do you know that game will run at 30fps in 720p!
I would like to thanks again PD!

I think it looks great, especially with the impressive damage - perhaps this is PGR for the PS3 (I still rate PGR2 as one of the best driving /racing console games). No reason why Race Driver Grid couldn't be arcadey & still good - do we really need another GT5? However, I really found the physics in Dirt much TOO "pivoty" (more so than CM5) & disappointing, so I'm a bit sceptical about Race Driver.

I know, what was with that smoke! Its like EA spent the whole time on the smoke and did the rest of the game in a week! :scared:

Still holding out for a day when NFS goes back to its roots...:indiff:

That's about what I figured. They seemed to have used all the processing power on realistic smoke, so there wasn't any room left for realistic physics. Not a fair trade, really. Still, that was some serious smoke!

;)

I can't wait to see true gameplay of this in action. Hopefully the physics are at least somewhat as good as the lighting and smoke effects.

I remember reading that they plan on doing that with the next installment.

I'm sure when someone actually gets a heands on most will change their minds about writing the game off before even playing it. It cant be worse than Juiced 2 and Pro Street. I'm still buying it.

Well, can you believe Grid won't have pits?????

Since LM24H I've been dreaming of another game that would also portray the "Le Mans experience", but with better graphics and physics. GT4 was a joke at it (six cars, 24 hours of daylight and, because we couldn't save in the pits, a dull race to be raced by B-Spec Bob).

So, my hopes were on GRID (it will have Le Mans, multi class race and day/night cycle).

But ... LM24H ( 8 years old game !!! ) remains unbeaten. Why? GRID will have no pits and no random weather!!!! :ouch: :ouch: :ouch:

I can understand the weather thing, but ... no pits?????? meaning no tyre wear, no fuel consumption, no strategy .... in a 24 hours race????!!!!!

(besides, it would be wise to turn damage off. Oh, wait ... no need to do it, the game features a "rewind" option ... how very realistic :yuck: )

SO ... my hopes are now with GT5. PD please, please, give me Le Mans with day and night, random weather, damage, pits and ... MIDRACE SAVES for those of us who want to do the full race ... driving !!!*

*I'm aware that there are members of these boards that drove the full 24 hours non-stop. But I'm not as "hardcore gamer" as they are ...

I've been reading a lot about this. It seems like Codemasters kind of wants to break away from the unforgiving realm of the ToCA Race Driver series to this concept. There are still race cars, just not really in the way of any realistic series. The videos I've seen for RDG (if I may) talk about how Europe is more about finesse driving and impressive driving technique across a variety of circuits. The United States are seen as big cars racing in big cities. Japan is more about extreme styles of racing including touge action and drifts. Kind of makes me wonder about South America and Australia (not much motorsport in Africa that I know of) being left out of this. This game is a bit like a combination of the Burnout series and "Need for Speed: Pro Street," only without being too extreme or focusing too much on crashes than racing. They step outside of their regular style of racing to showcase this. I must say, it's pretty cool. Nothing in the realm of concerns or anything that may not be extremely good. Great concept. I guess you have to change up styles and offer something different every once in a while. But as I always say, different doesn't always mean better.

"Great job Codemasters?" Do you mean this in a positive light or a negative light, KSaiyu?

Actually, I'm liking it so far, that way I'll have GT5 (P), as the sim racing game, and GRiD as the arcade-style one when I just want to sit down and play for 5 minutes.

Chris.

I don't know what to think of this game. It looks great but that's about it. The gameplay seems to be very dull. The damage engine is what I find so atractive (and the graphics) about this game. I'm not sure I'm going to buy this one though.

Codemasters, if you read this, you're going downhill!

:)

I'm still going to buy this. Thing is I liked DiRT, I liked it alot and I know that many other people did.

Yes, I'd prefer CM to stick to official racing series and have a completely different physics engine to DiRT. But if thats the case, then so be it. As long as the game has a competitive multi-player split screen mode then I'm fine. Thats the only thing I was ever good at on TOCA 3, I used it to violently race Tommi2000.

Maybe thats what CM wants to do, perhaps only a minority of people were able to complete TOCA 3 without resorting to the cheat codes (Which they made money on...). CM might want a game which more people can complete, personally I hate having games which are impossible to complete for me.

So who knows, it might be good. No-one can tell until they physically have their hands on it.

I like DiRT as well, every aspect of it. So maybe I'm going to like Grid as well!

But I still prefer sims like GTL and maybe Ferrari Challenge.

:)

Maybe I'm not so hardcore as I thought I am!

Some interesting "facts" in that interview, the online raceing with full damage bodes well and that its physics and play style is similar to the PGR series. There is also a comment in there about the simulator guys being able to set stuff up for there style of play.......

Personaly I'd have prefared toca 3 style play but as a big fan of the PGR series I'm now looking forward to this, the steering looks a bit "on/off" but the replays and in car in game shots look fairly promising handling wise. Not as simulation based as GT5 but not as arcadey as burnout or need for speed. 12 player online demolition derby anyone? or a private online le mans? only 2 weeks till the EU launch and with GTAIV due at the same time it's going to be a busy time for PSN! talking of GTIV theres an online race mode in there as well! plus some of the online game modes look fantastic....I'll not mention the new COD4 maps and R6V2 or I may start turning into a PS3 Fanboy LOL 2008 looks to be Sonys launch into the next gen...now I'm off before I mention Home or LBP...........wanders off drooling and giggleing at the "other" consoles.....
