[RACE] NR2003: 2014 GTPlanet Fantasy Series *That's A Wrap!*

Old discussion now, but:

Pepsi >>>>>

What's this? Arguments between Pepsi and Coke fans? Banter? Actual announcements that concern this series? You know what that means!

Actual on-topic discussions.

Also, this:

Recent announcements befell the Osaka-based team, ARTA America. Driver and team owner Ben Hamlin announced that his own car would keep the Coca-Cola sponsorship, while also announcing a sponsorship deal with American football team Club America. Despite this, the other drivers that were attending the ceremony were oddly engaged in a heated argument, over who was the superior drink, regarding Coke and Pepsi.

Eventually, Ben called for a truce, and said that there was still one more thing to be announced. A mysterious man came to the stage, and spoke to the audience. Said man was New Zealand's Steve Vexon, the newly appointed driver for the #8 car of the ARTA team. Not much is known about this man, as his racing career records are hasty at best. Steve said that he was eager to join the series, a topic that apparently came forth during a discussion in an Anime club, which both Ben and Steve are rumored to be a part of. Steve also said that despite a rough first test, which involved the presence of a wild cougar, he has shown a good pace, and Ben is confident in his ability to deliver.

More shall be revealed as the preparations for the 2015 season continue, but one thing can be said; 2015 will be a season to watch...

All I can say is well done on getting a real name from my username.

Without any delay, unlike the planned Bathurst event...Issue #1 of the GTPFS Newswire!
The inaugural GTPlanet Fantasy Series season has been filled of exciting and dramatic racing from start to finish. Now, twelve gladiators will battle out the final ten races to determine who will be crowned champion of the 2014 GTPlanet Fantasy Series season. In this issue, we'll be going over the twelve Chase drivers and their chances coming into the Chase.
The Chase for the GTPlanet Fantasy Series will be a giant variety of venues. Here is the schedule for the Chase. The number in parentheses is the round of the Chase races fall under. The number after it is the overall round of the calendar it is:
(1) 21 Armory Digital (Night): TBA- TBA
(2) 22 Charlotte: Salute The Troops 300- 200 laps
(3) 23 Pocono: Tricky Triangle 300- 120 laps
(4) 24 TBA
(5) 25 Twin Ring Motegi: Honda 225- 150 laps
(6) 26 Rockingham: The Rocks Back 300- 300 laps
(7) 27 Sebring: Mobil 1 150- 41 laps
(8) 28 Chicagoland: Tropicana 200- 134 laps
(9) 29 Watkins Glen: Watkins Glen Endurance- 131 laps
(10) 30 Homestead: Ford 150- 100 laps
->Of the nine known events, only two of those events have appeared on the regular season calendar (Armory Digital and Watkins Glen). The statistics for Armory Digital are intriguing to start the Chase. Of the twelve Chasers, 9 finished in the top 12 of that event, with the win going to BKGlover, who is seeded 10th in the Chase coming into Armory Digital this time around. The lowest finishing Chaser from Armory Digital was Michelin, who still comes in seeded 6th. But, Armory Digital will be different this time around, with the night time coming into effect. Expect all 12 of the Championship contenders to be up front for the win this weekend.
->Charlotte Motor Speedway will bring an entirely different challenge to these Chase drivers. It hasn't appeared on the schedule before, but it has sister tracks in Kentucky, and Kansas. At those two races earlier this year, a non-Chase driver won Kentucky in the form of Furinkazen. That same car, a Furinkazen Autosport Ford, will likely be in the hands of Michelin at Charlotte. At Kansas, a Chase driver won, being AJHG1000, who is second seed in the Chase. Ninners, who's only win has come from Phoenix, has the worst average intermediate track average of the Chase grid, but also has the least amount of DNFs as well.
->Pocono is in a very odd track type. If we throw it in the same category as Indianapolis, it's bound to be something. Only three of the Chasers finished in the top ten at Indianapolis, The Bman, Ninners, and goofytyler. It is a likely chance that a similar event could turn out at the Tricky Triangle.
->Round 24 is a track that hasn't yet been announced. It is likely to be an event that hasn't appeared on the calendar before, and the Newswire will keep you informed of what it will be when it's announced.
->Twin Ring Motegi, Japan's Darlington, is the last race in the first half of the Chase. This race could bring forward the big Championship contenders for the next five events. There is no event like it on the calendar, which means this race will be a complete thriller to watch.
->Rockingham, the only short track currently on the Chase calendar, could provide the best Chase action. If Bristol and Martinsville are any indication, then this race will come down to who can avoid having their car break down. None of the Chase drivers have consistently finished the short track events, which leaves the win up to non Chase drivers.
->Sebring and Watkins Glen are the two most technical tracks on the Chase calendar, with both venues known to abuse cars and drivers any way they can. Of the 12 Chase drivers, only Michelin has won any of the road course events, winning at Circuit of the Americas, while Turbo_snail and MrUnknown, two Chase drivers that squeaked into the Chase at Talladega, have two of the best average road course finishes of all 42 cars. Watch those two to strike near the end of the Chase.
->Chicagoland is race 8 of the Chase, and despite it being similar to Charlotte, it's best reference is to Auto Club, another race won by Furinkazen. AJHG1000, The Bman, BKGlover, and Jahgee1124 have the best chances at taking a win at Chicagoland.
->That leaves us with Homestead-Miami, another one of a kind venue that could bring the Championship down to the final few laps. It has no sister track on the calendar. Michigan comes to mind as a close relative, nor does it have a race at any other time of the season. Teams are best to bring cars that were from Chicagoland and tune them from that point. Regardless, expect the Championship to be determined by who wins the race.
With all of that said, here is the GTPFS Newswire predictions for the 2014 season.
CHAMPION:
Ninners-The most consistently finishing driver in the Chase will need to keep with the same tactics to grab Championship gold.
Runner-up: Michelin-As impressive as Furinkazen Autosports has been all season long, the impressiveness has been coming from the other side of the garage, which may hurt Michelin as they get close to the wire.
Third place: AJHG1000-AJHG1000 hasn't pinned down the consistency to get the Championship yet. Marred with engine issues and some serious crashes, AJHG1000 may be cursed from winning the title this year.
GTPFS 2014 Owner's Championship: #54 Furinkazen Autosport Ford-Say what you will, both Furinkazen and BRRT_Angel are stars above the rest. Furinkazen grabbed two solid wins in 15 races and BRRT_Angel has showed us every week who the top female driver is and who it will be for a very long time. If Furinkazen gets back to 100%, I strongly predict that these two icons will go for perhaps the biggest championship battle ever.
Without the Chase drivers seeing this article, the Newswire gathered the Chase contenders for a round table discussion before they duke it out at high speeds at Armory Digital.
Newswire:
Okay, this is the round table! The twelve of you are battling for GTPlanet's most prestigious B-Spec championship. How do you guys feel knowing that you've made it this far?
CodDemon101: It feels great, I feel I have been rather a underdog, not a podium yet and only 5 or 6 top 10 finishes I believe. Just been consistent stayed near the top and it has worked as I am here. It's been a good ride getting here haven't had the success I would like in some aspects but just came to every race with a clear positive mind to stay near the top. The biggest challenge now will be converting these finishes now into podiums and even wins if I want a chance to win the chase. Will have to see how it plays out but I am prepared.
Jahgee1124: Didn't realize this was for the RACE Sharpie Fantasy Series. It feels like I've been blessed by the Based RNG God.
BKGlover: Honestly, I'm stoked and terrified. Stoked because my team actually did well, despite the many middling finishes, and sans the driver everyone put in the effort to make sure we hung around all season. Terrified because as at least one guy on the internet has said before, luck is my dump stat. Unlike said guy, mine is not by choice and I fear my account at the "International Luck Bank" may be in the red.
AJHG1000: Feels great! I mean, when I started this, I didn't think to make it this far. It was only a case of "Let's give it a go!", and here we are. Now I'm hoping that the car gets its job done. At this point, I don't really care about the results. If they're good, they're more than welcome. If not, tyr again next season.
Ninners: I'm feeling in good spirits and looking forward to the races ahead. Hopefully we can stay out of trouble and rack up some big points.
Michelin: It feels awesome! It's great to know that the hard work paid off and we've made it this far. But it's not the time to stop working hard, since we still have ten races to go.
Newswire: My next question is this; where do you guys expect to wind up at the end? Obviously, everyone wants the championship, but who thinks they've got the best shot?
Ninners: Obviously, we can't predict these types of things. We can see how fortunes change for drivers from one race to another so I can't really say anything on that, but I hope we can be the best out of all of the drivers fighting for the title.
Michelin: I think we still gotta work even harder and even step up our game so we can win the championship. I think we are today a team that can wind up in fifth place right now.
Jahgee1124: As my theme song goes, "...can't be touched, can't be stopped, can't be moved, can't be rocked, can't be shook..." I truly believe that. As my man Bruno Mars said, "Don't believe me, just watch".
BKGlover: *points at the rest at the table* Them. We [#79 team] had our time in the spotlight, and once it occured, we went downhill. My line for many things in life is in play here: "Hope for the best, expect the worst". At this point I'd normally do something dumb like post a betting line for all involved, but the problem is doing that for a series like this is like using past results for craps, or a possibly better example, roulette.
CodDemon101: I have no idea, same with everyone most likely. Anything can happen in the Chase. We will have to see how it plays out.
Newswire: Several of you guys have been silent on what 2015 holds for you. Will we see all of these faces in the 2015 Chase?
Jahgee1124: Absolutely!
BKGlover: You'll see a 79 team try at least. I make no promises of anything aside from my car being the epicenter of B.S. at some point in the season.
Ninners: We have no announcements planned as of yet. We'll see how it pans out.
It would be remissed if we forgot to cover the way the 2015 roster is lining up. Several new drivers have announced their entries as have several teams. We'll cover a base of all of the confirmed teams and drivers.
Autobacs Racing Team America-Toyota: In for its second season in the series, the powerful but small Toyota team is ready to learn from its mistakes and make the 2015 Chase.
#4-BayneHamlin1121: After watching an impressive 2014 regular season campaing get ruined in a big crash in Talladega, BayneHamlin1121 is ready to bring the fight for another season.
#8-SVX: Another debutant in 2015 will be hopping in worry free. With the car already carrying sponsorship from Kirin and Autobacs, all that will be needed from SVX are improved finishes for the team.
Furinkazen Autosport-Ford: Perhaps the best Ford team in the series today is hoping to be the best Ford team in the future. Things don't look easy however for the three car squad.
#54-Furinkazen: Still recovering from his infamous and terrible crash at Indianapolis months ago, it is unsure if Furinkazen will be in the #54 for the 2015 campaign. With BRRT_Angel moving to a full time ride next season, there isn't a readily available substitute for the chance that he won't be fit in time.
#60-GranTurismo916: Coming into the team from running solo in 2014, GranTurismo916 looks to carry on with the success that Furinkazen Autosport has made.
#99-Michelin: The only driver from the team that actually made it into the Chase in 2014 looks to do it again in 2015 and with the same equipment, it would be hard to bet against the Brazilian.
Harsk World Motorsports-Dodge: The only non independent entry currently using Dodge happens to be a team led by a Portuguese multi race winner. Despite not having factory support from Dodge or SRT, this team is on the rise.
#53-Tired iron: One of the several Concept Cup drivers to take the field in 2014, Tired iron wasn't able to fully deliver on debut. But now that he's on a capable team, he might be a capable underdog.
#96-Harsk100: In just ten starts, the young driver from Moita, Portugal racked up two wins and had not only created a gap as the best Concept Cup driver, but had surpassed two full time drivers as well. Expect more wonders from Harsk as the new season dawns.
KANS Motorsport-Chevrolet: The remains of MLP Scuderia Red Bull have emerged from ashes into a four car Chevy powerhouse.
0-BRRT_Angel: Making her first attempt at a full season, the young woman has already set the record for best finish by a female driver, currently at 6th place after substituting for Furinkazen in 2014.
00-KuniKino****a: Another female debutant, the former Formula 1 champion crosses over to the GTPlanet Fantasy Series to cement herself as the best female driver in the series.
#37-SilverWing: Returning after a mildly impressive first season, SilverWing will try to help bring KANS Motorsport to the top of the stack.
#80-nascarfan1400: After a successful first half of the 2014 season, nascarfan1400 slipped out of the Chase. Seeking redemption, the team principal has the talent and the equipment to dominate the series in 2015.
Raven Motorsports-Chevrolet: After a successful partial season as a Concept Cup driver, raven214 established his own four car Chevrolet team to do battle against KANS Motorsport and Team Kate Upton in the Chevy camp.
#12-rcb929: One of the debutants for 2015 and one of the youngest ever GTPlanet Fantasy Series drivers, rcb929 will try to gel and succeed with seasoned veterans.
#87-quietgirl: The most seasoned of the three females currently entered into the series for 2015, she is the first woman to claim a pole position and the first to finish in the top 10 in a race. After missing out on the Chase in 2014, watch the #87 to fight the other girls and the field for the Chase in 2015.
#95-rallymorten: Despite missing out on the Chase in 2014, the speedy Dane is in the position to make wins happen in the upcoming season. Being one of the quieter drivers, expect silent and surprising results from the #95 Chevrolet.
#97-raven214: Number change, manufacturer change, teammates, and a hunger to win? raven214 has it all and will be a formidable threat when the sun rises in Daytona next season.
Rubber Hunters Racing-Pontiac: After a partial season as Concept Cup drivers, Niku Driver HC and Whitetail will form together with an aim to win races in 2015.
#9-Whitetail: Prancing to a win in Montreal in just a handful of starts proves the talent that Whitetail posesses. Carrying his Bambi sponsorship into 2015, watch the ever vigilant Bambimobile to take more race wins in his career.
#76-Niku Driver HC: Proving that the raw potential is there, the budding stock car driver is in good hands for 2015, assuring a steady climb to the top.
Swift Autosport-Ford: 2014 was a season to forget for the budding American team. At the start of the Chase, swiftsmith was last of the full time series entrants and under threat of being overtaken in points by several Concept Cup drivers. Now, 2015 looks to hold a different look, four cars, and a chance to start anew. But that fresh start has been a slow one. Drivers without confirmed numbers or sponsors show that the team is still on the back foot, but climbing as any team could.
#50-swiftsmith: Earning no help whatsoever from Furinkazen Autosport in the powertrain department, swiftsmith was down on power and equipment and finishing could be considered winning in some races. Trying to claw back may be the motivation needed to see him climb forward in the points.
smurfybug, Ph1sher, tbwhhs: Three new drivers to the series may be the approach needed to revive the Ford team from the brink. Let's hope that the issues are ironed out before Daytona arrives.
Team Kate Upton-Chevrolet: If you're looking for a whimsical yet potent team, here it is in full. Team Kate Upton (who has absolutely nothing to do with the model at all ironically) is another four car Chevrolet team. With two teammates in the 2014 Chase, who's to argue that all four teammates couldn't challenge for the 2015 Championship? Despite this being silly season, and the team being quite ordinarily silly, the team is pretty much the same aside from number changes.
#20-DurWinning: One of the drivers that were eliminated from Chase contention at the wire, the #20 car should be even better in 2015. Don't rule DurWinning out of winning. It's like he's entitled to a win.
#21: Doodle: All that changed from 2014 to 2015 with Doodle was the number, by four digits...Keeping in team expectations, Doodle has shown more than capable of taking the chequered flag.
#24-Jahgee1124: The team principal to this madhouse actually has a methodical approach. He has himself and The Bman in the 2014 Chase and is consistently visible in the top 10. One of the dark horses is actually not so unexpected at all really.
#25-The Bman: Like with Doodle, The Bman will be sporting a new number for 2015, but the driver is the same hungry and talented aggressor. The Bman should be on everyone's 2015 prediction list somewhere.
TRD Racing-Toyota: The hands down factory Toyota team will be raising the performance bar in 2015 with three seasoned veterans and a debutant that fell from the same line as promising driver BRRT_Angel. Toyota fans rejoice, a very optimistic future awaits.
#30-Gerarghini: From independent to factory team, Gerarghini will now have the equipment to bring in some solid runs that were sporadic in 2014. He'll be a card in 2015's championship hunt if the team develops right.
#31-DCybertron: One of the team leaders, DCybertron is in the midst of building a premier team, and has the tools to do so. Depending on testing will depend on if he's in the Chase.
#32-RACECAR: One of the Sony affiliated entries should ease any money concerns and help with R&D costs. He was a front runner part of the year in 2014. Expect more of the same in 2015.
#33-Clayton Hardy: As brash as they come, the newcomer from Ohio could surprise us in multiple ways. Expect a very inconsistent season from the rookie.
Independent Entries: Independent entries, in most series, are usually drivers that have the funding in place to run by themselves, but can't find a suitable team so they go it alone. The GTPlanet Fantasy Series, under a unique budget cap, allows these drivers to do so without feeling as much of a disadvantage to the multi car teams.
#19-goofytyler: One of several Independent entries to make the 2014 Chase that could repeat in 2015. If the rumours of assistance from Team Kate Upton materialize, this could make the #19 one of the strongest cars in the series.
#38-Johnny1996: The only privateer currently using Dodge, Johnny1996 will rely on Harsk World Motorsports for assistance. Making the move from Chevrolet might cost him in the long run, so keep expectations low until after the halfway point in the season.
#51-AJHG1000: Perhaps the strongest privateer and the best positioned driver to take the 2014 Championship will keep the Independent status for 2015 for hopes of repeat success. Using a Furinkazen Ford powerplant will be mighty resourceful especially from the start.
#74-Carbonox: One of the highest Chevrolet drivers in terms of sheer talent will keep Chevrolet for 2015. Where the engines will be sourced from is an unknown, but any of the specialized powerplants look like a great chance of success if the motivation is there.
#77-samurai8juice: Despite impressive runs, the #77 hasn't had the finishes to show. Team representatives confirmed that there are attempts to make a team that have currently been unsuccessful. This could develop into more so watch this space.
#79-BKGlover: Another Independent driver that made it into the 2014 Chase is a privateer Ford. Like in the boat with AJHG1000, look for chances at two years in a row of modest success.
Riding into the unknown: There are several drivers that have not specified their futures in the series. In order of their 2014 numbers, those drivers would be CodDemon101, GTracer98, MrUnknown (ironically), Chqr, Roflwaffle, Earth, Ninners, Bhowe83, Dustone, Turbo_snail, and MegaUmbreon. In total, there are 34 confirmed entries, with 2 open spots available with teams. If all of these unconfirmed drivers are to return, that bumps the field to 45 entries, which would notably mean that three would DNQ for races.
Retirements: Despite the series being young, there are a couple of notable drivers that will not be returning for 2015.
Project WHaT: In a similar boat to samurai8juice, impressive runs with no results to show. Project WHaT would confirm his departure rather early in the season.
Ryou: Currently last of the full time entrants in points, Ryou announced his departure before Talladega after a disappointing season.
Female Fiasco: Let's start it off with the topic that has been in the fore for two months now; the rivalry between quietgirl and BRRT_Angel. For the longest period of the months, we heard BRRT_Angel's side of the rivalry quite frequently and quite inflammatory at most times. Recently, quietgirl broke her silence. In a press statement, she thanked her 2015 team owner raven214 for his support in this, and revealed that an attempt was made a apologizng to BRRT_Angel shortly after the Martinsville race where quietgirl spun BRRT_Angel around. RACE officials let quietgirl go unpenalised for the event, in which race footage shows that quietgirl simply had no room to avoid the already spun Ford, which has been disputed by BRRT_Angel ever since. BRRT_Angel claimed that an apology was not attempted from quietgirl and added to what was claimed to be "additional post race gestures" between the drivers on pit lane further vilified the debutant. quietgirl over the last week later delved that she did make a mistake in causing contact with BRRT_Angel's #54 Ford, and offered a written apology as well as a pound of custom ordered chocolates which were made by Lindor Suisse Chocolatiers. BRRT_Angel, dodging the fact that the attempt at reconsiliation had actually occured, snapped at the fact that there was no face to face communication. With more of these facts coming to the fore, it is believed that BRRT_Angel will be making a more formalized statement at Armory Digital regarding the whole fiasco.
Hardy Multitasking?: While waiting for the 2015 GTPFS season, debutant Clayton Hardy has been spending his time split between building his own Daytona competitor and working at Starbucks. Catching up with him, he confirmed that he was raising awareness of Starbucks involvement in the series as well as his own involvement with the company.
Indy Correcting Mistakes: Following Furinkazen's near fatal accident and RACE deciding to keep Indianapolis off of the 2015 GTPlanet Fantasy Series calendar, Hulman and Co. have started making reparations to the venue in hopes of returning. There remains no word on if RACE plan on returning to the iconic track in the near future.
Possible Regulation Changes: As it has been discovered, the 2015 GTPFS cars might undergo slight changes in aesthetic appearance and power changes. Chevrolet, Ford, and Toyota have presented their recommended changes, with Dodge and Pontiac in question if these take place. Most teams reportedly have shown indifference or do not wish for these changes to take place immediately. This could alter the scope for the 2015 so stay tuned.
Coca-Cola Racing Family?: Following what appears to be a massive cola wars startup, Coca-Cola has announced that it will launch it's Racing Family campaign in the GTPFS. The members are as follows: KuniKino****a, nascarfan1400, SilverWing, Clayton Hardy, Gerarghini, swiftsmith, tbwhhs, Ph1sher, smurfybug, BayneHamlin1121, SVX, samurai8juice. An interesting twist on this, despite Angel being majority sponsored by Coca-Cola (estimated at $3.4 million a year, equalling all other Racing Family drivers Coke sponsorship combined), she announced via Twitter that she will not be a part of the Coca-Cola Racing Family, with Coca-Cola backing her with this statement: "While the Coca-Cola Racing Family blends speed with the best cola in North America, both Coca-Cola and Angel Porter recognize that she carries more than the Coca-Cola badge. She proudly sells our various other beverages, including Coca-Cola Vanilla, Coke Zero, and Mello Yello. In all regards to the Coca-Cola Racing Family, we feel that the separation is justified in order to better categorize our advertisements and our endorsement deals." Despite KuniKino****a also carrying the Mello Yello sponsorship, a deal exclusive to Angel and Kuni for limited races, she will remain a part of the Coca-Cola Racing Family.
Motegi Meet and Greet: It was announced at Armory Digital that KuniKino****a would be available for a public Q&A at Twin Ring Motegi. This is part of several events planned for the GTPFS' first trip to Japan. Tickets for the race have already been sold out and a schedule of the driver events will be posted in a later issue of Newswire.
That's all for this issue. Responses are welcome and feel free to send me questions to ask GTPFS CEO Nas Pinkton in Issue #2!

@KuniKino****a There is one small thing I'd like to point out. Charlotte, while yes a D-oval, is more aligned with Atlanta and Texas Motor Speedway. Kansas, Kentucky, Chicagoland, and Vegas are all in a separate distinction. Auto Club, Michigan, and the soon to be gone IRL Texas World Speedway are all not only sister tracks, but were designed to be flattened copies of Daytona....

Dammit, started rambling again. Great stuff Kuni, glad I'm not the only one who thought it nessesary to separate TKU from their namesake too.

Also for the time being all 79 cars will enter under the team name NCTX Motorsports.

I had to go off of NASCAR for Dummies for the tracks. But thanks for the tip. And I'll correct that in my side notes for later.

He's gonna wreck them Chasers he means :scared::sly:

Oh no, the Chase runners are doomed! On the other hand, that might actually mean a victory for me. Hum... :mischievous:

Also, Jahgee confused by emoticons? Wasn't he the man who told Kumi-san that his speech looked wierd without those? What is this sorcery?

I was confused by the use of that emoticon in that situation

He wished everyone luck, then he made a statement. Why that warranted a wink I didn't and still don't know

Couldn't resist.

Eh, just nod and move on.

Speaking of moving, where is that Armory race, @nascarfan1400? The banter reserves are almost depleted! :scared:
Bull. Banter is a self-replicating thing. As long as there is one iota of it left, it will fester and rebuild itself. It's worse than bacteria.

I do have a double edged counter-banter device at hand now, though it seems I may not have to use it.

Banter isn't preventable, it can only be delayed.
