And you don't have to buy VRP's in bulk, you can just add it to your cart and then pay with funds in your Steam wallet. Yes, you get a bit of a discount if you buy them in bulk, but it's not a requirement (I've only done it once).
I didn't know that actually, should check it out. Thanks for the tip

Yep! Seriously, don't hesitate to ask because there are some tips and tricks that can save you money (and yes it's all a bit confusing if you don't know how it works, but makes sense once you know how it works). Buying in bulk gets you a pretty good discount so if you know you're going to be buying a lot of content it's a wise way to go, but you can also pay directly from your Steam wallet. Just put it in your cart and go to checkout, after clicking a couple confirmation buttons a Steam box will pop up where you can either pay with money in your Steam wallet or add money to it (minimum is $5 so if you're only buying one car you might have some change left over for the next purchase).

Just bought a couple of these with some friends just to give it a go. We looked into it six months ago and laughed and never gave it a second glance. The prices are just way too ridiculous for what you get in any other racing game. At the current 80-85% off sale, it becomes reasonable. We picked up some cars and tracks that we don't have in our other games.

So far, I like the sound and the FFB is better than PCars. The dedicated server is annoying, but works well for what it is. Options are a bit lackluster.

My entire race group (half of whom won't buy in, even at discount) are all of the same opinion...the pay model sucks. We'd have all bought this game if it was normally priced and had reasonable DLC packs.

Shame too, as I think this could be a much more serious contender if it wasn't stuck behind the paywall structure (and F2P turns off a whole lot more people than it seems to turn on). I'll still pop it on and enjoy it on occasion, but without my buddies all buying in, not much reason to drive it. Still, got more time last night than I have in A/C. :)

Yeah, it's a barrier that surely keeps some people away which is a shame. It's not nearly as expensive as it seems on the surface, but it is more than most other sims. Once you figure out how the store works and find out how to by bulk vrp at a discount you can actually get a lot of content for the ~$50 you'd spend on another sim.

Another thing that I think keeps people off is it's essentially still a glorified rFactor mod. If Reiza can sell Game Stock Car Extreme at $30 with plenty of stock content I don't see why RRRE can't retail at $60 with everything it has (price double because IMO RRRE looks and sounds better, and its race series are arguably more well known and more expensive to license).

My dream would be at the end of RRRE lifespan all contents will be packaged as GTR3 (2017 maybe? Looking at the timeline from Race07 to Race Injection as comparison). I will buy it in a heartbeat.

Compare the costs of 1 man-hour in Brazil and Sweden...

Reiza is on their own and S3 has a Publisher...

S3 has tons of licensed series, cars, tracks from everywhere and more to come this year... Thats also a very big amount of costs...

Well in the beginning I was really turned off by the paymodel and also played R3E in the early stages. It wasn't really convincing.
But the Black Friday discount changed everything. I got the whole game for 50€. So it was cheaper than Pcars and so on. In addition to that the physics and FFB have changed completely.

Right now I enjoy it very much. The Sounds, FFB and the physics are amazing. I have real fun to drive and also the AI is challenging and I have good battles with them.

This was an investment I don't regret.

______

So let's get back to the price of this game. At first it looks like a lot of money. But think about it. You get a high quality product for your money. The sounds are amazing, Physics work great and also the FFB is convincing. The work S3 does is well researched. They collaborate with real drivers of the series to get their input for the physics and how the car should handle and feel. Already this aspect is quiet expensive. And than you also have the very expensive licences and as Ak1504 said, high wages for swedish employees.
If you want higher quality and also well researched physics and sounds than you have to pay more.

Also right now the paymodel is in my opinion really good, as I don't have to buy things which doesn't interest me (like openwheelers)

The problem is I like to drive a LOT of cars. Even those that I'm not interested in, I'd still like to give those a try. I know there's a test drive function but I still want to own them. I dunno, maybe it's just my age showing. I miss the days where you plonk down money at the shop and you own everything on the disc from Day 1.

Also, if I only play RRRE I wouldn't think twice about the pricing. But now I have less time to play (uni/work/life) and I have more games than ever (GT, AC, PCARS, GSCE, rFactor, Dirt Rally plus the occasional old sims like GTL, GTR2, Race07, LFS, RBR). I just can't justify spending that much on one game, and not getting all content, no matter how good it is.

If you spend around the cost of a new game on vRP direct from the Raceroom store, you can basically purchase all tracks (US, EU track packs) and a lot of experience packs for that money. Easily as much content as many full price race games. In fact, the track list is huge compared to anything outside iRacing.

The trick with RRRE is to buy in bulk, not to buy small things occasionally.

Totally understandable. I'm sure you're not the only one in that position which is probably why more people don't play R3E. Yes, the pay system makes more sense once you deal with it for a while, but why deal with it when so many other great options are available? That's always been my gripe with it, not so much that it's too expensive but that it's too convoluted and confusing and some people won't want to deal with it and will just buy AC or PCars instead.

Bought in on the last day of the New Year Sales it seems. Got WTCC 2014, DTM 2015, Group 5, TTS Cup, US Tracks, European Tracks and Bathurst. Fiddled a bit with FFB with the T500RS drove some laps with the TT and the DTM cars. The contents I got I think will supplement what I don't get out of pCARS.

Sorry if this is the wrong thread but I'll ask it anyway, will my PC run R3E?

Processor: Intel Core 2 Quad Q8300
Operating System: Windows 7 Home Premium
Memory: 4 GB
Hard Drive: 320 GB

Also, how much space will it take up to download?

What graphics card have you got? I reckon your CPU should be good enough since it's about on level with the legendary Q6600 and R3E shouldn't be much more CPU-intensive than rFactor, the game from 2005 that it's based on. Your GPU will be the deciding factor since R3E has a new graphics engine with higher requirements.

R3E takes up some 18GB installed on my hard drive.

Sorry but I'm afraid I have no idea on what graphics card I have.

Edit: Looking on the internet I believe this may be it.

Here's my problem: I don't know a thing about computers or their components :)

I don´t think you can play a current game on high settings with spending less than £1000 GBP

You won´t be happy in the end...
You can actually, i have a GTX960, i5 combo myself which cost me 700€ (543 pounds), pre assembled from Ebay. Plays new games on high and i can put some sliders on ultra even and maintain 60fps.

So how well does the multiplayer work? and is it easy to get good clean races like in iRacing? and are there plenty of scheduled events or is it all player decided events?

I don't get it ?! Such a brilliant format RaceRoom Experience haves.. And this forum gets the downgrade to 'other games' in the subforum of console and pc gaming.. Where it previously stated between titles like pCars, iRacing and assetto Corsa.. This title/game is so underrated :(

This site is for the most part for the console crowd, hence why even some excellent PC games (R3E, SCE/AMS, rFactor 2, etc.) don't see much light of day. It's actually the primary reason I don't visit here much anymore, I rarely turn on my console (mostly a DVD/Blue-ray player).

You gotta take it up with Jordan. My understanding is, it doesn't matter if the game is good or not. If the subforum doesn't have enough activity then it gets demoted. Too many subforums on the main page makes it look too cluttered. If you ask me, SLRE and ETS/ATS doesn't have enough activity to warrant their own subforums too, but I'm not the site master so...

It's weird in my opinion to have a truck simulator series on top, higher than a gt game on GT Planet..

It's like having a basketball forum in the Fifa game forums, above a forum about the Letvian soccer league..

I think SLRE will move here again as well because the activity is low and there are only a handful of people that are playing. Hoped it would pick up but it failed... well life goes on :D
